The poster/demo session has been a successful regular event at ICNP in past years. These sessions will provide a great chance for students and researchers to obtain feedback on their on-going research from knowledgeable conference attendees. Extended abstracts (2 pages) of the posters or extended description (2 pages) of the demos should be submitted in the Portable Document Format (PDF) only, following the same formatting instructions as for the main conference papers, except that the author names should be included in the 2-page PDF, and their title must bear a "Poster:" or "Demo:" prefix, respectively. The submissions will be reviewed by members of the Poster/Demo Session committee. The abstracts of accepted posters and demos will be included in the proceedings and in IEEE eXplore. At the conference, posters/demos must be presented by one of the co-authors. Posters and demos submitted to this call for papers should contain unpublished original ideas and not be abbreviations of published papers. Note that acceptance and presentation at ICNP 2021 of a poster or demo containing original ideas will not prevent authors from publishing a more complete version of their ideas in future conferences and journals. We will do our best to accommodate demo author needs to present and discuss the demo virtually. ## Scope IEEE LCN 2021 will feature a demo session with the aim of providing demonstrations that validate important research issues and/or show innovative prototypes. Authors are invited to submit technical demonstrations (no more than 3 pages) showing innovative and original research. The authors are encouraged to highlight the research component of the demo and explicitly mention the novelty of the showcased technology/ solution. The proposal should include one page that describes what conference participants will be able to see or experience during the demonstration. IEEE LCN is looking for demonstrations in all topics covered by the main conference and/or the symposium held in conjunction with LCN 2021. Such wirelessly-networked embedded systems already represent a cornerstone of today's digital society, due to their omnipresence in a variety of application domains with high societal relevance, such as smart homes, smart cities, smart grids, connected healthcare, precision agriculture, civil infrastructure monitoring, and cyber-manufacturing. Within this context, the "wireless embedded systems" area of JSys welcomes research contributions describing the architecture, design, implementation, and performance of innovative wirelessly-networked embedded systems, as well as works exploring specific communication, computing, and sensing aspects. Particularly relevant are results and insights substantiated by a strong experimental component on real-world devices, as well as contributions describing practical deployments and implementation experiences. Last year, VNC 2020 featured a very different format. While some attendees called it the best online-conference they attended in 2020, not meeting in person is only the second best option. Here, these kinds of flexible wireless networks are called “Smart Radio” which are promising technologies for creating future mobile network platforms. The examples of main research issues in smart radio are flexible spectrum resource utilization called smart spectrum, user demand for flexible wireless networks, environmental aware wireless networks and so on. In particular, spectrum issues for future wireless networks are important for realizing sustainable wireless communication contributing to future IoT society and it is a good time to start R&D in the related issues with long-term vision. In this workshop, we discuss future wireless networks based on smart radio for IoT in which various user and application requirements are mixed. We would like to create an approach to smart radio for future wireless networks which are adaptively designed by balancing spectrum environment and system demands through this workshop. The highly efficient exploitation of the spectral resources has motivated the evolution of the legacy static frequency allocation and management policies introduced in the early twentieth century towards more flexible and dynamic spectrum exploitation approaches in recent years. Gone are the days of the spectrum regulators’ scepticism on dynamic spectrum sharing ideas, which has now been replaced with a supportive regulatory environment for flexible spectrum technologies. This significant change of paradigm in spectrum regulation and management has allowed the development of new technologies for flexible spectrum sharing and coexistence, both in licensed bands (e.g., WRANs in TV white spaces, LSA/ASA, CBRS) and unlicensed bands (e.g., LTE-U/LTE-LAA, 5G NR-U), and is also expected to facilitate and accelerate access to the radio frequency spectrum for a broad range of new applications and services in next generation wireless networks, including smart cities, smart grids, connected autonomous vehicles and drones in intelligent transportation systems as well as commercial and industrial IoT networks. The concept of flexible spectrum usage has historically been developed in the context of the crowded lower frequency bands. However, over time there will be use of much higher frequency bands that are not currently used for communications. There is an opportunity to embed spectrum-sharing technologies in much higher frequencies (e.g., millimetre wave bands) as the technology opens up the possibility of using those. This will be necessary to enable an opportunistic use of mmWave bands currently in use by certain technologies such as radar and satellite systems as well as an efficient coexistence in new unlicensed spectrum in the 6 GHz, 60 GHz and above 95 GHz bands. This trend is backed up by the recent release of experimental licenses on a shared, uncoordinated basis to support research, innovation and the development and use of new products and applications in Extremely High Frequency (EHF) bands. While flexible spectrum technologies offer the potential for increased spectrum efficiency and paves the way for futuristic application scenarios, interference protection in a dynamic spectrum management context remains the key challenge, in particular in next generation scenarios that require high capacity (e.g., holography and virtual reality), high density (e.g., closely spaced devices in factories and offices) and high precision (e.g., robotic assembly and warehouse stocktaking). The purpose of this special issue is to bring together state-of-the-art research contributions that describe original work addressing the challenges faced by flexible spectrum technologies in next generation wireless communication scenarios. This special issue aims to solicit recent research advances in modelling, analysis, performance evaluation, simulations and experimental studies on smart, flexible and versatile technologies that provide promising research directions to improve the efficiency of spectrum utilisation. Topics of Interest The topics of interest of this special issue include, but are not limited to: • Spectrum coexistence technologies for licensed and unlicensed bands • Solutions for spectral coexistence between emerging and existing/legacy wireless systems • Technologies to enable spectrum coexistence of active and passive users • Spectrum technologies specifically designed for Vehicular Technologies • Artificial intelligence (deep/machine/reinforcement learning) for smart spectrum access • Optimisation of spectrum management for next generation application scenarios • Algorithms and protocol design for enhanced spectrum exploitation • Spectral awareness and signals intelligence techniques • Spectrum sensing and sensor networks for flexible spectrum systems • Wideband signal detection techniques for broad frequency bands (e.g., mmWave) • Resource allocation for interference management/protection • Software-defined radios for flexible spectrum usage • Experimental prototyping, test-beds and field trials • Flexible spectrum regulation and standardisation Manuscript Submission Guidelines Manuscripts must follow the author instructions available at: https://vtsociety.org/ojvt-author-instructions/.
