In the past decade, the research community have produced proven solutions to build low-power mesh networks. Traditionally, the focus has been on short-range radio communication (e.g., ZigBee, Bluetooth, and ZWave.). An appealing alternative that have gained momentum in the IoT landscape, is to equip the nodes with long-range low power radio modules. As a result, long-range radio communication technologies (e.g., SigFox, LoRa, NB-IoT, and 802.15.4g) are considered as candidate technologies for many low-power wide area network (LPWAN) applications, especially those that require extended coverage such as citywide sensing, environmental monitoring, or remote infrastructure monitoring. The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the field of IoT from both academia and industry, to discuss and explore short- and long-range solutions, the tradeoffs between these two paradigms, as well as how they can be used in synergy. In order to push the state of the art, several points need to be addressed: new features for the long-range technologies (i.e., over-the-air updates, roaming), radio resource management, regulations and policies on spectrum usage and sharing, business case analysis that are more well suited for certain vertical markets. The vision of interconnecting billions of devices in a holistic network, where machines communicate along with traditional human communications is now being realized, towards the formation of the Internet of Everything (as called by Cisco). The workshop focuses on Industrial Internet of Things systems and applications, which represent the highest value segment of the IoT market. The heavy research endeavors of last years have provided efficient solutions and enhanced technologies that enable the creation of such a network, overcoming several challenges stemming from the special attributes of device-to-device communications, embedded devices, and big data management. We invite researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to submit papers focusing on one of the following topics: - describe an attempt to reproduce experimental results from published work; - identify fundamental challenges and open questions in rigorous benchmarking and evaluation of cyber-physical networks and systems; - report on success stories/failures with using standard evaluation criteria; - present example benchmark systems and approaches from any relevant community (embedded systems, networking, control, robotics, machine learning); - propose new research directions, methodologies, or tools to increase the level of reproducibility and comparability of evaluation results; - report on examples of best practices in different CPS sub-communities towards achieving the repeatability of results; - present models to capture & compare the properties of algorithms & systems; Well-reasoned arguments or preliminary evaluations are sufficient to support a paper's claims. The workshop will continue to serve as a forum for sharing new ideas and experiences gathered across all experimental aspects of wireless networks and systems, such as the methodological and technical issues that have to be faced for defining, running, controlling and benchmarking experiments on wireless solutions. The workshop will also facilitate discussions of key unresolved challenges and emerging problems in the field, such as new laboratory methodologies, key real-life limitations of current and novel wireless technologies that have emerged over the past few years (including mmWave, 5G, IoT, VLC, wearables, underwater and aerial networking, and SDN), as well as key challenges facing the wireless networking of the future. We are particularly interested in papers describing developments, lesson-learned and new results obtained through platforms for at-scale wireless research such as those in the US NSF Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR) program, the European 5G-PPP program under the coordination of EMPOWER, and similar programs focused on large-scale experimentation. The PAWR and EMPOWER programs technically co-sponsor the workshop. We are seeking original, previously unpublished papers empirically addressing key issues and challenges in experimental wireless networking. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Design and evaluation of wireless testbeds and prototyping platforms for: mmWave and Terahertz communications and networking Emerging PHY implemented on Software Defined Radio (SDR) IoT and wearable computing Visible Light Communications (VLC) UAV, multi-robot and vehicular networks Underwater/underground networks Software Defined Networking (SDN) for wireless cellular networks (LTE, 5G) Underwater/underground networks Innovative protocols on sensor nodes Innovative protocols on WiFi nodes Other wireless networks, mobile computing, cyber-physical systems * Experiences/lessons from testbed deployments (especially, PAWR/ICT-17-like) * Techniques for improving reproducibility of real-world testing of wireless systems * Testbed control and management issues * Machine learning applied to wireless systems * Evaluation of large-scale and heterogeneous wireless networks * Experimental evaluation of performance/energy consumption of applications and protocols, including the impact of cross-layer interactions * Measurement and evaluation on large-scale smartphone-based deployments * Real-world evaluation of cellular networks * Real-world white-space networks, interference and spectrum usage measurements * Spectrum Sharing and Coexistence in unlicensed bands, including LTE/WiFi coexistence * Measurement and characterization (modeling) of real-world aspects of wireless networks such as usage patterns, traffic, mobility and channel characteristics * Security and privacy mechanisms for mobile and wireless networks * Sharing experiences and results with real testbeds, experimental evaluation, prototyping and empirical characterization of wireless technologies Papers should contain original material and not be previously published or currently submitted for consideration elsewhere. All submissions will be judged by their technical merit and relevance to the workshop, based on reviews by the Technical Program Committee. Manuscripts must be submitted by using the HOTCRP conference management system. Prospective authors are encouraged to submit a single PDF file with all fonts embedded, using the ACM conference proceedings format (use the same PDF formatting guidelines as the main conference). Paper length is limited to eight (8) pages (in two-column, 10-point format), all-inclusive (references, figures, etc.). Papers must include author names and affiliations for single-blind peer reviewing by the program committee. Authors of accepted papers are expected to present their papers at the workshop. Accepted papers will be published in the ACM WiNTECH proceedings and will be archived in the ACM Digital Library. All papers will be considered for the Best Paper Award.
