The first IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC) was held in 1995 in response to the growing interaction between the fields of computers and communications. Since then, ISCC takes place annually, usually in the Mediterranean region, and in locations such as Egypt, Greece, France, Tunisia, Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Italy, and Brazil. In 2025, the Symposium will take place in Bologna, Italy. ISCC sessions will include presentations on new research results and tutorials. New applications, such as virtual reality and smart building control, have emerged due to the large number of resources and services brought by cloud computing. By this, we are moving from the core (cloud data centers) to the edge of the network closer to the users. FMEC dependability is based on providing user centric service. The purpose of Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing is to run the heavy real-time applications at the network edge directly using the billions of connected mobile devices. Several features enable the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing to be a perfect paradigm to the aforementioned purpose, which are the dense geographical deployment of servers, supporting mobility and the closeness to users. As in every new technology, some challenges face the vision of the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing, which are the administrative policies and security concerns (i.e. secure data storage, secure computation, network security, data privacy, usage privacy, location privacy, etc). FMEC 2024 conference aims to investigate the opportunities and requirements for Mobile Edge Computing dominance. In addition, it seeks for novel contributions that help mitigate Mobile Edge Computing challenges. At the heart of this transformation lies the critical aspect of communication and networking, enabling robots to operate effectively, share data and collaborate seamlessly. In this era of interconnected devices, robots rely on advanced communication protocols and networks to function efficiently in diverse environments. Whether in manufacturing, healthcare, autonomous vehicles, or space exploration, the ability of robots to communicate with each other and with humans is transforming industries and pushing the boundaries of technological innovation. The frontier of research foresees the deployment of highly autonomic and integrated scenarios where heterogeneous ground, aerial and/or marine robots coordinate with each other and with the existing sensing and processing infrastructures to accomplish complex tasks. On the one side, this implies proposing and investigating novel M2M solutions and network protocols to enable the data communication on the aerial and ground segments while taking into account the novel possibilities offered by the emerging technologies (e.g. 5G/6G and LEO satellite communications). The communication technologies must be paired with proper control mobility functions to support swarm operations and to instill coordinated behaviors. On the other side, the data processing on the mobile edges may take advantage of emerging federated and embedded AI techniques to drastically reduce the latency of the decision process while limiting the amount of data transferred from the robotic networks. NetRobiCS aims at bringing together state-of-the-art contributions on the design, specification, and evaluation of architectures, algorithms, applications, and protocols for current and future applications of wireless ground, marine and aerial robotic networks. Original, unpublished contributions are solicited in design, development and evaluation of wireless ground, marine and aerial robotic networks. It should highlight the technical contributions with sufficient detail to allow for a fair assessment of their merit, clearly outline the interactive features of the demonstration, and describe their potential to stimulate engaging discussions with the ICDCS audience. Additionally, authors are encouraged to include links to online resources in any digital form, such as as a live online version of their demo or alternatively a video or a tutorial showcasing the main features of their demo and illustrating the potential interactive elements of their work. Finally, the submission should explicitly mention any special (non-standard) requirements for the proposed demo, so that the committee can consider them when evaluating the demonstration’s appropriateness to the conference setup. All demonstration papers should follow the IEEE 8.5″ x 11″ two-column format using 10pt fonts and the IEEE Conference template (downloadable by selecting “Conferences” in the IEEE-Template Selector (https://template-selector.ieee.org/). Each submission can have up to six (6) pages (including figures, tables, appendices, and references). Papers exceeding this page limit or with smaller fonts will be desk-rejected without review. Smart computing is a multidisciplinary domain based on the synergistic influence of advances in sensor-based technologies, the Internet of Things, cyber-physical systems (CPS), edge computing, big data analytics, machine learning, cognitive computing, and artificial intelligence. Applications of smart computing can be found in different societal domains including, but not limited to, transportation, energy, environmental protection, smart and connected communities, healthcare, banking, industrial systems, entertainment, and social media. Algorithmic and system advancements in cloud computing, mobile/pervasive computing, cyber-physical systems, sensor networking, and social computing are taking smart computing to a new dimension and improving our ways of living. The Posters and Work in Progress (WIP) session will provide a forum to discuss novel ideas, preliminary results, present innovative applications and tools, and bring about novel research questions, approaches, and directions. The Demo session will focus on hands-on demonstrations of preliminary works on novel platforms, implementations, and case studies. We particularly welcome demos that present innovative designs or advancements in CPS, providing attendees with the opportunity to experience cutting-edge technology firsthand. We encourage both academia and industry to contribute by sharing valuable insights into real-world applications and innovative solutions in Smart Computing. Industry submissions are invited to reflect practical experiences, field trials, and emerging trends from an industrial perspective, demonstrating the impact and applicability of Smart Computing technologies. All the submissions must be formatted according to the two-column IEEE proceedings template. IEEE provides corresponding formatting templates at IEEE proceedings template (ttps://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html). Make sure to use the conference mode of the template, i.e., LaTeX users must use the conference option of the IEEEtran document class. While the submission format is the same, the goals for Posters/WIP and Demos are different: * Posters/WIP: We welcome papers up to 3 pages discussing early or ongoing research. Posters/WIP are intended to present ongoing research with a focus on novel methodologies, preliminary results, or innovative concepts that hold promise for future development, highlighting key ideas, or research directions in a concise format, fostering discussion and feedback on emerging work/applications. * Demo: We welcome papers up to 3 pages focused on the specific component that will be demonstrated to the audience and how the attendees will be able to interact. They should also provide an overview of the background research leading up to the demo. All submitted Posters/WIP, and Demos will be subject to peer reviews by SMARTCOMP Technical Program Committee members and other experts in the field. Initiatives such as the O-RAN Alliance that promote the Open RAN movement are jointly shaping the future of access networks across industry and academia, while open-source RAN software solutions such as the OpenAirInterface and srsRAN projects, as well as open-source RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) implementations such as FlexRIC and OSC-RIC, have made it possible to involve a much larger set of stakeholders than was previously possible. Buoyed by the key tenets of softwarization, disaggregation, and programmability, the RAN is evolving from a monolithic black-box entity to a more disaggregated, open, and programmable ecosystem. This evolution has also brought forth the possibility of rich third-party support for RAN assurance and control, driven by advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) through standard protocols. At the same time, the rapid adoption of AI should be closely coupled with guard-rails that ensure trustworthiness, resilience and explainability of such models in production systems. Therefore, while the RAN is poised to usher in a new era of openness and innovation, much work remains to be done within the domains of architectures, interfaces, algorithms, and standardization. To that end, this workshop aims to provide a forum for researchers and professionals across academia, government, and industries, to exchange ideas, present new results, and provide future visions concerning next-generation open and programmable RANs. Submissions are solicited for both regular technical papers as well as posters and demos.
