Wireless Days 2019 will include presentations of both theoretical and experimental achievements, innovative wireless systems, prototyping efforts, case studies and advances in technology related to wireless networking and communication infrastructures. All papers for IEEE SECON 2019 must be submitted via the conference submission page. Each submission must be no longer than 9 pages and in font size no smaller than 10 points. Submissions that violate the formatting guidelines will be rejected without review. All submitted papers will be judged based on their quality and relevance through *double-blind* reviewing, where the identities of the authors are withheld from the reviewers. As an author, you are required to preserve the anonymity of your submission, while at the same time allowing the reader to fully grasp the context of related past work, including your own. Common sense and careful writing will go a long way towards preserving anonymity. Papers that do not conform to our double-blind submission policies will be rejected without review. To be published in the IEEE SECON 2019 conference proceedings and to be eligible for publication in IEEE Xplore, one author of each accepted paper is required to register for the conference at the full (member or non-member) rate. The paper must be presented by an author of that paper at the conference, unless the TPC co-chairs grant permission for a substitute presenter arranged in advance. The designated presenter should be qualified to both present the paper and answer questions. Non-refundable registration fees must be paid prior to uploading the final IEEE formatted, publication-ready version of the paper. ICT can be leveraged for sustainability’s triple bottom line of economic, environmental and social benefits by facilitating green business models and societal functions. However greening ICT through energy efficient operation and resource management as well as the use of renewable energy sources and proper life cycle management is indispensable to unleash the full potential of greening through ICT and more generally of ICT as a driving force of sustainability. The 2019 IEEE Sustainability through ICT Summit (StICT), in its second edition, will be held on 18-20 June 2019 at the ETS campus in Montréal. Under the theme of “ICT - A Key Driver for Sustainability,” the Summit promotes a holistic approach on prospects for technologies, standards and policies for ICT-enabled sustainable development that also takes into consideration the sustainability of ICT resources. The summit is sponsored by the IEEE Sustainable ICT Initiative. Professionals from different disciplines are invited to contribute to the open dialogue over the 3-day summit. The summit will provide an inter-discipline collaboration platform for ICT practitioners; users; technology providers; the standardization community; policy makers; and the research community to exchange views and share expertise through the “Sustainability through ICT” keynote speeches and discussion panel session on Day 1 and the World Cafe event on Day 2. On Day 3, the summit will host the International Workshop on Green ICT and Smart Networking (GISN 2019) where researchers from both industry and academia will come together to promote discussions on smart and green solutions for stimulating, innovating, designing, provisioning, and optimizing the networked society. IEEE Sustainable ICT initiative White Paper “A Smart and Sustainable World through ICT” represents output from the first Summit and sets the stage for the World Café Event (Day 2) of this Summit. However, as the number of Internet-connected devices is dramatically growing, cloud shows its limit on handling the daunting amount of computation loads on the one hand and the network bandwidth for moving huge volume of data from end devices to cloud becomes the bottleneck on the other hand. Edge computing is an emerging paradigm to optimize cloud-IoT ecosystems for tackling both network bottleneck and reducing data volume. The basic idea behind the edge computing lies in that the data processing such as analytics and knowledge generation are performed in the proximity of data origins. One can see edge devices as small-scale clouds providing comparatively limited functionality and capability, as compared to the centralized cloud. The use of edge devices in the proximity of data origins thus improves network latency. Moreover, the amount of data that need to be processed by each edge device will be substantially less than the amount of data that need to be processed by single cloud. Despite numerous benefits from edge computing, this paradigm also brings new security and privacy challenges. While edge devices might be smartphones, smart gates, or even PC/laptop, together with the numerous kinds of end IoT devices such as smart watch (e.g., Apple iWatch), implantable medical devices (e.g., fitbit), voice assistants (e.g., Google Home), one can imagine various scenarios with sensitive data usage. For example, the smart watch collects sensitive physiological information. Meanwhile, distributed edge devices need to cooperate with each other without the involvement of the data center. These scenarios obviously result in a high concern of security and privacy, especially on, for example, access control of edge devices, data abuse/misuse, DoS resistance on edge devices. The aim of this special issue is to collect recent research on security and privacy of edge computing, with particular emphasis on security and privacy issues on edge/end devices. More specifically, we invite recent advanced research on privacy enhancing technologies and secure cryptographic techniques to address security and privacy challenges in the field of edge computing. Authors uncertain whether their submission meets these guidelines should contact the program chairs. Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms will not be considered. Accepted submissions will be treated as confidential prior to publication; rejected submissions will be permanently treated as confidential. MobiSys uses a double-blind review policy during the initial paper review. Authors are instructed to not include their names, affiliations and contact information on the manuscript they submit for review. Authors should also anonymize the content of their paper to hide their identity. Reviewers will not know the identity of the authors during the initial phase of the review process, however, anonymity will expire after the majority of the reviews have been submitted and preliminary outcomes decided. Due to the multitude of types of devices, systems, and protocols, and their scale of deployment and limited resources, some of these systems will be extremely challenging to interconnect and secure. The underlying edge network or edge-computing infrastructure, supporting the IoT, will also need to provide security and privacy guarantees. Given that IoT devices and edge networks are deployed by a multitude of players, decentralization has become a key enabling design goal of the system. For example, recent advances in Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and Blockchains can be incorporated to support decentralized security. In turn, decentralized security through distributed trust can help overcome privacy concerns and scalability bottlenecks, both of which are becoming increasingly serious in large-scale deployments, such as smart cities or Industry 4.0. A decentralized approach to IoT interconnection brings forth many opportunities, but also important challenges, e.g., in state synchronization, trust management, and the difficulties of operating with constrained devices and networking modes. Following the spirit of the NDSS Symposium, the goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners to analyze and discuss the huge potential, but also the inevitable limitations of decentralized operation and security in the IoT space, in edge-computing, as well as in the wider mobile computing environment. The workshop will accept early-stage, novel ideas that are likely to trigger discussion. The proposed topics include the following: + Enabling secure interoperability across IoT ecosystems, including ++ Applying blockchains and Distributed Ledger Technology to IoT and edge network infrastructure ++ Security and availability in multi-tiered IoT edge networks ++ Peer-to-Peer (P2P) security and privacy in IoT ++ Decentralized trust and rights management, including access control ++ Decentralized authentication and access management at the IoT edge + Other topics related to decentralized security in IoT, such as ++ Security and privacy trade-offs related to IoT scalability and decentralization ++ Cryptocurrencies, crypto-assets and cryptoeconomics in IoT and edge-computing ++ Secure Service provisioning and migration in edge-computing environments ++ Sensor and Actuator Key Management and other Security Protocols ++ Smart Contracts for IoT, including formal verification of smart contracts ++ Application of concepts from outside of the IoT to decentralized IoT security ++ Usable security for decentralized IoT and edge-computing Submission Instructions ================== The workshop will accept papers between three to six pages in length, for publication in post-workshop proceedings. Proceedings will be published by the Internet Society with the revised papers based on the workshop discussions and reviewer comments. In Europe and the US, the population living in urban areas accounts for more than 75 percent. As a consequence, applications that are targeting urban areas can positively impact a significant fraction of the population in terms of various social benefits. In addition, the majority of the planet’s resources are consumed in cities. This, in turn, creates a significant potential for reducing the environmental impact of mankind by enhancing and optimizing the physical infrastructure digitally. The ongoing advances in Pervasive Computing technology have delivered interesting hardware platforms that are suitable for city-scale infrastructure deployments. In addition, the success of mobile communication devices and mobile broadband connectivity enables citizens to tap into the digital resources that surround them anytime and anywhere. Another foremost important technology for building future generation of smart city applications is intelligent (real time) analytics and decision making by processing streaming sensor data available from the surrounding environment. Fleets of smart cars can be a distributed computational and sensing resource. Also, increasingly large crowds of people are being equipped with sensor-rich mobile and wearable devices, yielding Big Data arising from such environments, e.g., GPS data and social activity data, which can facilitate wide-scale crowd-sensing and crowdsourcing, contributing towards data acquisition in smart city applications. With such data, both centralized analytics and decentralized analytics could play a key role in data sense-making and decision making. Also, such analysis can be combined with data from increasingly deployed fixed sensors or IoT infrastructure in the city. Context-aware applications in the smart city are numerous, from transportation, energy, safety to low-carbon living. There are many context reasoning and data acquisition, analytics and knowledge management issues in ITS and smart cities, such as architectural and algorithmic issues, incentive mechanisms, energy-efficiency, data verification, complex pervasive computing interactions, cost efficiency, urban data issues, data privacy and security, to name a few. Recently researchers are actively engaged in finding the applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in solving various data analytics and decision making problems related to Smart Cities which can benefit the society as a whole. E.g, (a) efficient water quality monitoring can ensure proper quality of water served for drinking, industry or agricultural purposes depending on specific requirements; (b) efficient healthcare assistant can track health status of elderly individuals staying alone in home to make decisions during emergency events through continuous learning; or (c) they can provide tailored services to patients in smart hospitals, (d) intelligently choosing proper sensor or communication interface depending on the data volume, communication requirement and importance of the event, (e) providing intelligent road traffic routing depending on action priorities of the user and based on the congestion condition which can further depend on weather or any other unexpected events, such as, accident, strike, etc. This workshop will focus on bringing together researchers and practitioners working on systems and applications in the Smart City domain. All the architectural, networking and decision making aspects will be investigated and discussed. Underlying structure of Smart City systems, including different possible architectural models such as peer-to-peer, location based, server oriented, and hybrid models will be studied. Almost all smart city related problems, which are important for the societal welfare, and could potentially be solved using AI techniques, can be presented in this workshop by researchers from industry and academia. In general, we want to focus on solutions of the following questions: (a) how to design city-scale smart systems with autonomous coordination capabilities; (b) how to develop intelligent decision making abilities in emergency and safety-critical systems or during medium and large-scale disasters, and (c) how to handle real-time conditions innovate computing technology for diverse societal applications to improve the human experience. We also hope to produce a post-workshop position paper providing a summary perspective and future directions for work in the area. A community of researchers and practitioners will also be created and nurtured via this workshop. Smart City as an emerging area attracts researchers to organize several thematic workshops and conferences. The 3rd IEEE INFOCOM Workshop on Smart Cities and Urban Computing is focusing on bringing together researchers in the field of system, networking and communication to discuss major challenges, research problems, and potential applications to support smart cities and urban informatics. The First IEEE International Conference on Smart City Innovations (IEEE SCI 2017) focuses on smart city related applications and services. However, large scale data management and decision making for smart cities is not receiving enough attention. So, in this workshop, we propose to include the social good aspects of smart city applications using AI or ML techniques which are novel concepts and will be attractive to the community as a cross-disciplinary perspective. In summary, this workshop is unique (different from other ITS and smart city conferences) in its emphasis on the combination of context-aware computing, ITS and smart cities (IoT), and aims to maintain the important link between smart cities and pervasive computing. Starting as a niche application over Wi-Fi, they can now be found in mainstream technologies like Bluetooth LE, LTE Direct and Wireless LANs, and have become the cornerstone of upcoming networking paradigms including mesh and sensor networks, the Internet of Things, cloud networks, vehicular networks, disruption tolerant and opportunistic networks, underwater and intra-body networks. The challenges of this exciting research field are numerous. Examples include how to make smart use of these novel technologies when multiple technologies or a mix of permanent services and on-demand networking opportunities are available to a network node, how to provide robust services in highly dynamic environments, how to efficiently employ and operate heavily resource-constrained devices, and how to develop robust and lightweight algorithms for self-organization and adaptation. Finally, there are many application-specific challenges. WONS, now in its fifteenth edition, is a high-quality forum to address these challenges. WONS aims to provide a global platform for rich interactions between experts in their fields, discussing innovative contributions in a stimulating environment. This announcement solicits original contributions of high-quality research providing novel insights on all aspects of wireless on-demand networks and systems; from protocol and network design, modeling, performance evaluation, energy efficiency, QoS models and mechanisms, practical implementations, service level aspects, application use-cases, to the integration of multiple wireless network technologies. Call for Papers With smart-phones in their pockets, more than 1 billion people now have access to sensing, computation, and connectivity, making it possible to harness the power of the crowd to collect and share data about their surroundings and experiences on a massive scale. Crowdsensing/crowdsourcing is a novel data collection paradigm that leverages this vast mobile sensor network, making it possible to expand the scope of research endeavors and address civic issues without requiring the purchase of specialized sensors or the installation and maintenance of network infrastructure. Data collected using such applications may come from unexpected yet interesting and valuable sources and may allow for collecting data in previously inaccessible locations and contexts. This new data collection paradigm introduces several research challenges. Privacy is a primary concern for users who contribute sensitive or personally identifiable information (PII). Incentive mechanisms for participation may be needed to encourage people to volunteer their resources to collect data. Methods are needed for processing large-scale, user-generated data sets into meaningful information, and for assessing and understanding the quality of information to help guide decision-making. Approaches, which involve the crowd in such data analysis tasks, with humans serving as a source of semantic information, interpretation, and evaluation of crowdsensing/crowdsourcing data, can also help to build an understanding of the physical, computational, and socio-technical environment. At the same time, with the deployment of a tremendous number of sensing devices collecting a huge amount of data for smart cities, smart home, connected cars, e-halth or Industries, the Internet of Things is also facing similar challenges regarding data privacy, scalability, data processing or visualization. Thus, there is need to provide relevant data science tools for citizens in order to extract all the properties of the data and provide novel integrated services with data from the crowd or sensors. The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for discussion, debate, and collaboration focused on ideas, trends, techniques, and recent advances in crowdsensing and crowdsourcing, as well as Internet of Things and sensed devices. Similarly to our past editions, CASPer 2019 will also feature an invited speech and a panel discussion devoted to the latest key developments in the crowdsensing and crowdsourcing domain. We invite original research contributions that advance the state-of-the-art as well as position papers, which pose a new direction or present a controversial point of view. The Forum will be structured as a series of short presentations by the students, followed by collective discussions. “Speed mentoring” sessions will conclude the Forum to let the students obtain individual feedback and advice. Participating students will also have the opportunity to present a poster during the main conference to leverage further interaction with EWSN attendees. Current Ph.D. students in the early stages of their career are encouraged to submit a 2-page abstract about their ongoing research to be considered for the Ph.D. Forum. The abstract shall also include a one-paragraph bio, along with brief information on how long the student has been in Ph.D. school and the expected time until graduation. The student should be the *sole* author although contributions of the adviser and others should be acknowledged. Submissions will be reviewed by the Ph.D. Forum committee to ensure quality, relevance, and potential benefit from attendance to the Forum. Authors of accepted submissions are expected to participate in person in the Forum – to be held on February 25th, 2019 – and to present a poster both at the Forum and at the main conference. This year, EWSN will go outside Europe for the first time, and be held in Beijing, China. In addition to full research papers, EWSN solicits submissions of poster and demo abstracts. Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are physical and engineered systems whose operations are monitored, coordinated, controlled, and integrated by computing and communication. Broad CPS deployment is transforming how we interact with the physical world as profoundly as the world wide web transformed how we interact with one another, and further harnessing their capabilities holds the possibility of enormous societal and economic impact. ACM/IEEE ICCPS is the premier single-track conference for reporting advances in all CPS aspects, including theory, tools, applications, systems, test-beds and field deployments. The conferences focuses on the core science to develop fundamental principles that underpin the integration of cyber and physical elements, as well as on the development of technologies, tools, architectures and infrastructure for building CPS systems, highlighting the design, implementation, and investigation of CPS applications. Application domains include (but are not limited to): transportation, energy, water, agriculture, medical and assistive technology, sensor and social networks, robotics, smart cities, ecology, and supply-chains. Among the relevant research areas are security, control, optimization, machine learning, game theory, mechanism design, mobile and cloud computing, model-based design, verification, data mining / analytics, signal processing, and human-in-the-loop shared or supervisory control. All submissions must be in English. Only original papers that are not submitted or published in other conferences or journals will be considered. Manuscripts should have a main body with no more than 10 pages. Up to 2 additional pages of appendices may follow the main body of the paper, within the same submitted .pdf file. The submissions must be in the ACM two-column conference style, US Letter (8.5 inch x 11 inch) paper size, and 10pt text font size. To reflect the interconnection of IoT with both cloud computing and cyber-physical systems, IoTDI is co-located in even years with IEEE IC2E and in odd years with CPS-IoT WEEK. In 2019, IoTDI will be held for the fourth time, and will be part of CPS-IoT WEEK 2019. A confluence of technological advances marks the advent of a new era. World data volume is growing at an unprecedented pace, much of it from embedded devices. Smart cities are expected to grow, fed by millions of data points from multitudes of human and physical sources. Cyber-attacks grow more nefarious, bringing down physical systems. Social networks are becoming ubiquitous, offering information on physical things. The separation between cyber, physical, and social systems is blurring. Collectively, these developments lead to the emergence of a new field, where the networking and physical realms meet. It is the field of the Internet of Things (IoT). This conference is an interdisciplinary forum to discuss challenges, technologies, and emerging directions in system design and implementation that pertain to IoT. This conference invites researchers and practitioners from academia, industry and government, and accepts original, previously unpublished work on a range of topics related to IoT. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - Analytic foundations and theory of IoT - Reliability, security, timeliness, and robustness in IoT systems - Novel protocols and network abstractions - Data streaming architectures and machine learning analytics for IoT - IoT-motivated cyber-physical and Industrial IoT (IIoT) systems - Novel quality requirements and their enforcement mechanisms - Cloud back-ends and resource management for IoT applications - Edge and fog computing - Personal, wearable, and other embedded networked front-ends - Social computing and human-in-the-loop issues - Applications domains (e.g., smart cities, smart health, smart buildings, smart transportation) - Deployment experiences, case studies & lessons learned - Evaluation and testbeds Accepted papers of particular merit will be invited to submit an extended version to ACM Transactions on the Internet of Things (TIOT). Joint statement from the IPSN and IoTDI Program Chairs: IPSN and IoTDI are collaborating to create new synergies, and also exploiting their CPS-IoT WEEK bi-annual co-location. Prospective authors are thus strongly encouraged to consider these guidelines when submitting papers: - Contributions of an embedded nature and applying to network segments from the IoT gateway to field devices should be submitted to IPSN. Examples include localization, low-power wireless networking, and embedded data processing. - Contributions with an end-to-end perspective or applying to network segments from the IoT gateway to the cloud should be submitted to IoTDI. Examples include cloud data processing, edge computing, and systems covering multiple network segments. The TPC chairs of both conferences may agree to move a submitted paper from one to the other if they see a better fit, subject to the authors’ consent. The final decision about where to submit, and therefore what program committee will review the work, ultimately rests with the authors.
