Its scope includes signal and image processing, information and coding theory, databases and information management, distributed algorithms, networks and protocols, wireless communications, collaborative objects and the Internet of Things, machine learning, mobile and social sensing, and embedded systems design. Of special interest are contributions at the confluence of multiple of these areas. Like prior years, IPSN 2019 will continue its co-location with CPS-IoT WEEK, the premier venue for research and development of Cyberphysical Systems, and its strong focus on algorithms, theory, and systems for information processing using networks of embedded, human-in-the-loop, or social sensors, as well as new hardware and software platforms, design methods, architectures, modelling, implementation, evaluation, deployment experiences, and tools for networked embedded sensor systems and the Internet of Things. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - Sensor data storage, retrieval, processing - Streaming sensor system tasking and operation - Coding, compression, and information theory - Theoretical foundation and fundamental bounds - Network and system architectures and protocols - IoT gateway platform architecture and services - Outdoor, wide-area sensing systems - Location, time, and other network services - Programming models, languages, and systems - Programming models for IoT ensembles - Modeling, simulation, and measurement tools - Operating systems and runtime environments - Applications in health, wellness & sustainability - Applications in smart cities and urban health - Experiences, challenges, comparisons of platforms - Discovery, coordination, and use of IoT services - Security and privacy in heterogeneous systems - IoT reliability, adaptability, and dependability - Technical assessment of emerging IoT standards - Wearable systems and data processing algorithms - Sensor-enabled drone platforms and algorithms In addition to IPSN's traditional focus, IPSN 2019 will place a particular emphasis on embedded machine learning and computer vision, with a special track centered on these topics. In this case, topics of interest include but are not limited to: - Machine learning and deep learning on sensor data - New hardware and system design to enable machine learning on sensor data - Novel embedded machine learning algorithms - Data related issues, such as methods, tools, and analysis - Computer vision for resource-constrained and mobile platforms ********Submission Guidelines******** Papers must be at most 12 pages, including figures, tables, and references. Prospective authors are thus strongly encouraged to consider these guidelines: - Contributions of embedded nature and applying to network segments from the IoT gateway to field devices should be submitted to IPSN. Examples include localization, low-power wireless networking, and embedded data processing. - Contributions with an end-to-end perspective or applying to network segments from the IoT gateway to the cloud should be submitted to IoTDI. Examples include cloud data processing, edge computing, and systems covering multiple network segments. The TPC chairs of both conferences may agree to move a submitted paper from one to the other if they see a better fit, subject to the authors’ consent. Broad CPS deployment is transforming how we interact with the physical world as profoundly as the world wide web transformed how we interact with one another, and further harnessing their capabilities holds the possibility of enormous societal and economic impact. ACM/IEEE ICCPS is the premier single-track conference for reporting advances in all CPS aspects, including theory, tools, applications, systems, test-beds and field deployments. The conferences focuses on the core science to develop fundamental principles that underpin the integration of cyber and physical elements, as well as on the development of technologies, tools, architectures and infrastructure for building CPS systems, highlighting the design, implementation, and investigation of CPS applications. Application domains include (but are not limited to): transportation, energy, water, agriculture, medical and assistive technology, sensor and social networks, robotics, smart cities, ecology, and supply-chains. Among the relevant research areas are security, control, optimization, machine learning, game theory, mechanism design, mobile and cloud computing, model-based design, verification, data mining / analytics, signal processing, and human-in-the-loop shared or supervisory control. All submissions must be in English. Only original papers that are not submitted or published in other conferences or journals will be considered. Manuscripts should have a main body with no more than 10 pages. Up to 2 additional pages of appendices may follow the main body of the paper, within the same submitted .pdf file. The submissions must be in the ACM two-column conference style, US Letter (8.5 inch x 11 inch) paper size, and 10pt text font size. The Doctoral Colloquium will be structured as a series of short presentations by the students followed by individual discussions, feedback, and advice. Students with the most inspiring topics will also be invited to present a poster during the main conference to leverage further interaction with SenSys attendees. Current Ph.D. students in the early stages of their career are encouraged to submit a 2-pages research summary describing the work in progress and including a 100-word abstract. Things to consider for inclusion in the research summary might be: the expected contribution to the field; the original idea or thesis statement; the problem domain and the specific problem addressed; a brief overview of related work; the methodological approach; research carried out and results so far. The abstract shall also include a one-paragraph biography of the student, including the names and affiliations of the research advisor(s), and expected date of dissertation submission. The student should be the sole author, although contributions of the advisor and others should be acknowledged. The Doctoral Colloquium committee will review submissions to ensure quality, relevance, and potential benefit from attendance. Authors of accepted submissions are expected to participate in person to the Doctoral Colloquium. There will be no separate registration fee for the Doctoral Colloquium. ****Location**** The Doctoral Colloquium is part of Sensys 2018. Details about the location and the rooms will be announced in due time. ****Submissions**** Research summaries will be reviewed by the chairs and panel members. In order for smart sensor systems to truly become useful and pervasive, we need to address a number of research challenges, including the tight integration of sensing and machine intelligence, reliable and efficient networking, interoperability and scalability, the need for dependable autonomy, interaction with humans, and important aspects of security, privacy and trust. DCOSS focuses on distributed information processing issues arising in networked sensor systems, covering aspects of high level abstractions, models and languages, novel algorithms and applications, system design approaches and architectures, as well as tools for simulated and real deployments. There is a need to further explore the security issues related to IoT technologies to assure the resilience of CIs against advanced IoT-based attacks. Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is, by definition, a process that occurs in any system where electrical energy is transmitted from a power source to a load without the connection of electrical conductors. While recent advances in wireless utensils appear to be unlimited, the dependence of their operation on batteries remains a weakness, mainly because batteries come with a limited lifetime and require a fast charge time to achieve continuous operation. This is where the technologies of WPT become useful, bringing together wireless energy and data transmission. WPT technologies substitute the traditional powering concept, where a cable or a battery is connected to the wireless device, by the transmission of energy over the air in an efficient way to power-up the device. Wirelessly Powered Networks have recently evolved into a very active research field, as well as a topic of rapid technological progress, emerging practical developments and standardization activities. However, a solid foundational, technological, and applied background is still necessary for Wirelessly Powered Networks to achieve their full potential. The provisioning of relevant technological models, algorithmic design and analysis methods, networking principles, circuit and system design, and application methodologies is a challenging task. This Special Section in IEEE Access invites academic and industrial experts to make their contributions on Wirelessly Powered Networks. The topic owes its attractiveness to its promise to facilitate highly resilient, adaptive and outstandingly efficient behaviors. Thus, self-awareness holds the promise to promote dependability in all types of smart gadgets and artificial agents in the interconnected world of future. However, the challenges raised by these new promising features are also significant, not least because they have a profound impact on the way we design, validate and test incorporating self-awareness. If a system smartly adapts to changing needs and environment, how do we validate its functionality at design time? How do we specify the correct functionality in the first place? What are the relevant trade-offs? How can we quantify uncertainties and variabilities in a meaningful way to deal with them in the design process? These are only some of the pressing questions that have to be addressed before these new features can be exploited. IIoT has come to be an extensive trend in the business and commerce development as it helps organizations to attain extreme achievements with reduced expenses. However and regrettably the promising IIoT technology lacks of many security measures that make it vulnerable to many sorts of cyberattacks, for example and not limited to, node capture, side-channel analysis, eavesdropping, man-in-the-middle and distributed denial of service attacks. Moreover, the IIoT networks need challenging requirements to achieve the desired security and reliability. Unfortunately, traditional security solutions and even regular IoT solution cannot address the Industrial IoT security flaws due to the different nature of the IIoT. An integral part of IIoT is the Operational Technologies (OT), such as SCADA, needs to have a deep security examination. Present SCADA technology are distributed and networked over open internet protocols, which make it susceptible to cyber-attacks, an enhancement of the Modbus, Profibus, Fieldbus, and Hart protocols with digital authentication should promise, confidentiality, integrity, availability, and dynamic group management for OT. IIoT context has precise necessities when it comes to security and reliability, such as; i) Bounded and fast response is required to attain the business continuity. ii) Reliability, unlike the regular IoT that operates in domestic areas, Industrial IoT systems operate in hazardous areas with safety implications that may threaten lives. iii) Scalability is needed to, dynamically and remotely, add and revoke sensor nodes efficiently. iv) Power consumption is very important factor to be carefully considered especially with ambient power and battery-driven devices. v) Security is a serious issue for all sensory applications; however, industrial usages need more robust and reliable procedures due to their safety implications. All these constrains must be considered during the security protocols design process. As encryption is the cornerstone of information security, authenticated encryption has been getting a lot of attention in the IIoT context to attain integrity and confidentiality. Fast and lightweight encryption plays a great role in achieving the adapted security and privacy for IIoT; however, lightweight encryption still needs to study new techniques, which must be formally verified over the modern cryptography. On the other hand, key management in terms of authenticated key agreement with key confirmation (AKC) protocols need to be obtainable in a new customization for the IIoT context to consider fast rekeying and nodes addition and revocation. This Special Section aims to attract pioneer and novel work of Security, Privacy, and Trust for the Industrial Internet of Things including novel and innovative security mechanisms that are resilient to the current Industrial IoT cyberattacks.
