Although simulation is an important tool for studying and analyzing the behavior of new protocols and algorithms, it is essential that new research ideas be validated on real systems and testbeds. This workshop will bring together researchers and technical experts to share experiences and advance the state of the art in experimental research in areas such as networking, distributed systems, and cloud computing. It aims to inspire researchers to use testbeds in novel and interesting ways as a means to validate research ideas. Of particular interest are experiments on publicly available testbeds such as GENI, the Fed4FIRE testbeds, Emulab, CloudLab, DeterLab, ORBIT, OneLab, FIT, PlanetLab, among many others. The CNERT workshop has a strong experimental component and includes a live demo session. We solicit papers and demo proposals with experimental results from testbeds from areas including, but not limited to: - Wireless network experimentation (including low-power wireless, Internet-of-Things and sensor networks, LTE and WiMAX communications and services, 5G, mmWave) - Wired network experimentation (including optical networks) - Distributed systems - Cloud computing and big data - Computer and network security - Softwarization and virtualization of radios and networks - Software defined networking (SDN) - Future internet architectures - Network economics and pricing - Augmented and virtual reality Experiments may focus on challenges including, but not limited to: - Instrumentation and measurement - Large-scale experiments - Evaluation and analysis of experiment data - Creation and sharing of datasets of broad interest to the community - Experiment design and deployment - Designs for repeatability and reproducibility - Tools and services for testbed users and operators - Experiments on federated testbeds - Testbed implementation and deployment --------------------------------------------------- Submission Instructions --------------------------------------------------- We solicit: - 6-page research papers. All research papers are encouraged to participate in the demo session. One additional page is permitted in the initial submission to provide a demo proposal associated with the paper (detailed below). - 2-page extended abstract, plus a one page demo proposal (detailed below). - 2-page white papers for a special “Experimenter’s Wishlist” session (or panel). White papers should present a vision on what new network experiments are desired but currently not possible, as well as the types of capabilities that network testbeds would need to support such experiments. Demo proposals should include a summary describing the demonstration. Please ensure that demo proposals also include: - Equipment to be used for the demo. To cope with the exponential growth of devices and mobile data traffic, there is a need for clean-slate or evolutionary Internet architectures merging and assembling different network technologies, supporting new paradigms for wired/wireless system planning and optimization, efficient transport over heterogeneous wireless access options, efficient and quality-aware content distribution, and new approaches for unified operations and management of the heterogeneous components, like software-defined systems and network function virtualization. These are only some examples of the challenges that are of interest to IFIP WWIC 2019. The IFIP WWIC 2019 conference takes a broader view to the merge of wired and wireless technologies and welcomes submissions from academia and industry that explore challenges and advances in architectures, algorithms, protocols, and technologies for a global wired/wireless Internet network. Papers that present original work, validated by experimentation, simulation, or analysis, are solicited. We also encourage work-in-progress and position papers that describe highly original ideas, present new directions, or have the potential to generate insightful provocative discussions. IFIP WWIC is a single-track conference which has reached, over the last 15 years, a high-quality level, which is reflected by the paper acceptance rate as well as the level of attendance. Achieving ultra-low latencies â€“ often together with unprecedented levels of reliability, has not been in the mainstream in most wireless networks, due to the focus on human-centric communications and delay-tolerant content. However, a plethora of socially useful applications and new uses of wireless communication are envisioned in areas such as augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), industrial control, automated driving or flying, mission-critical IoT, remote robotics, smart grid and tactile Internet. In response, new releases of mobile cellular networks (mainly focusing on 5G new radio and beyond) are envisaged to support scenarios with extremely strict requirements in terms of latency (ranging from 1 ms and below to few milliseconds end-to-end latency depending on the use cases). Low latency communication poses significant theoretical and practical challenges, requiring a departure from throughput-oriented system design towards a holistic view (network architecture, control, and data) for guaranteed and reliable end-to-end latency. Cooperative networking can maintain the robustness of network connectivity, since in cooperation, wireless nodes assist each other for improved connectivity and increased diversity. Most present systems employ centralized resource allocation, which is inappropriate for such applications though, as it relies on a significant control-layer overhead and incurs severe latency. The 2nd Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet of Things (CPS-IoTBench) brings together researchers from the different sub-communities to engage in a lively debate on all facets of rigorously evaluating and comparing CPS and IoT solutions. CPS-IoTBench provides a venue for learning about each other’s challenges and evaluation methodologies and for debating future research agendas to jointly define the performance metrics and benchmarking scenarios that matter from an overall system’s perspective. We invite researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to submit short papers. We particularly encourage submissions that focus on one of the following: - identify fundamental challenges and open questions in rigorous benchmarking and evaluation of CPS and IoT solutions; - offer a constructive critique on the current practice and state of experimental comparison; - report on success stories or failures with using standard evaluation criteria; - describe efforts to replicate or reproduce experimental results from published research; - present example benchmark systems and approaches from any of the relevant communities (embedded systems, real-time systems, networking, wireless communication and control, etc.); - benchmark industrial standardized solutions against each other and against academic solutions, and discuss their strengths and weakness for different application use-cases and industry verticals; - propose new research directions, methodologies, or tools to increase the level of reproducibility and comparability of evaluation results. It is predicted that the number of mobile-connected devices will exceed 11.5 billion by 2019 (nearly 1.5 mobile devices per capita), which poses a huge traffic demand for ubiquitous communications. Data rates are projected to increase by a factor of ten every five years, and with the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) predicted to wirelessly connect trillions of devices across the globe. It is anticipated that we will witness an up to 10000- fold growth in wireless data traffic by the year 2030. Predictions evidently indicates that the growth in data traffic will cater unprecedented services and applications for machine type communication such as driverless vehicles and drone-based deliveries, smart cities and factories, remote medical diagnosis and surgery, and artificial intelligence- based personalized assistants along with traditional human-centric communications. Coexistence of human-centric and machine-type services as well as hybrids of these will make next generation wireless networks more diverse and complex. Current wireless radio access techniques are not capable of delivering these new applications and services as they are way different from traditional human-centric communications in terms of reliability, latency, energy efficiency, security, flexibility, and connection density. Full and short papers ===================== Full paper submissions to ACM WiSec 2019 can be up to 10 pages in the ACM conference style excluding the bibliography and well marked appendices, and up to 12 pages in total. ACM WiSec also encourages the submission of short papers with a length of up to 6 pages, which describe mature work of a more succinct nature. All papers must be thoroughly anonymized for double-blind reviewing. Detailed submission instructions will appear on the conference website. Opinion papers ============== ACM WiSec 2019 invites papers (ACM conference style, up to 3 pages excluding references) that present personal perspectives on all aspects of security and privacy in wireless and mobile networks. The opinions expressed in these papers are expected to be anyway corroborated by theoretical foundations, experiments, or experiences. Replicability label =================== The goal of the replicability label is to support replicability in mobile and wireless security experimental research process and to increase the impact of mobile and wireless research, enable dissemination of research results, sharing of code and experiments setups, and to enable the research community to build on prior experimental results. WiSec will follow the ACM policy on artifact review and badging. Towards this goal, the WiSec replicability label recognizes papers whose results were replicated by an independent group of researchers. Authors of accepted papers can participate in this voluntary process by submitting their experiments according to the replicability evaluation instructions. Authors are encouraged to plan ahead when running their experiments to minimize the overhead of applying for this label. All papers for IEEE SECON 2019 must be submitted via the conference submission page. Each submission must be no longer than 9 pages and in font size no smaller than 10 points. Submissions that violate the formatting guidelines will be rejected without review. All submitted papers will be judged based on their quality and relevance through *double-blind* reviewing, where the identities of the authors are withheld from the reviewers. As an author, you are required to preserve the anonymity of your submission, while at the same time allowing the reader to fully grasp the context of related past work, including your own. Common sense and careful writing will go a long way towards preserving anonymity. Papers that do not conform to our double-blind submission policies will be rejected without review. To be published in the IEEE SECON 2019 conference proceedings and to be eligible for publication in IEEE Xplore, one author of each accepted paper is required to register for the conference at the full (member or non-member) rate. The paper must be presented by an author of that paper at the conference, unless the TPC co-chairs grant permission for a substitute presenter arranged in advance. The designated presenter should be qualified to both present the paper and answer questions. Non-refundable registration fees must be paid prior to uploading the final IEEE formatted, publication-ready version of the paper. Only IEEE Xplore compliant papers received by the camera-ready deadline can appear in the proceedings. For authors with multiple accepted papers, one full registration is valid for up to 3 papers. These are only some examples of the challenges that are of interest to IFIP WWIC 2019. The IFIP WWIC 2019 conference takes a broader view to the merge of wired and wireless technologies and welcomes submissions from academia and industry that explore challenges and advances in architectures, algorithms, protocols, and technologies for a global wired/wireless Internet network. In the past decade, the research community have produced proven solutions to build low-power mesh networks. Traditionally, the focus has been on short-range radio communication (e.g., ZigBee, Bluetooth, ZWave). An appealing alternative that have gained momentum in the IoT landscape is to equip the nodes with long-range radio modules. As a result, long-range radio communication technologies (e.g., SigFox, LoRa, and 802.15.4g) are considered as candidate technologies for many low-power wide area network (LPWAN) applications, especially those that require extended coverage such as citywide sensing, environmental monitoring, or remote infrastructure monitoring. The 1st Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Trends in Engineering Low-Power Networks (NewNets) brings together researchers and practitioners working in the field of IoT from both academia and industry, to discuss and explore short- and long-range solutions, the tradeoffs between these two paradigms, as well as how they can be used in synergy. In order to push the state of the art, several points need to be addressed: new features for the long-range technologies (i.e., over-the-air updates, roaming), radio resource management, regulations and policies on spectrum usage and sharing, business case analysis that are more well suited for certain vertical markets. We invite researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to submit papers. We particularly encourage submissions that focus on one of the following: - protocol design; - hardware platform design; - modelling and analysis of low-power short or/and long-range communication; - reliability, adaptability, and dependability of short and long-range communication solutions; - new features for the long-range technologies (i.e., over-the-air updates, roaming); - radio resource management; - deployment experiences, case studies, and lessons learned; - evaluation and testbeds; - regulations and policies on spectrum usage and sharing; - business case analysis that are more well suited for certain vertical markets. SUBMISSION AND FORMATTING Submitted papers must contain between 4 and 6 single spaced U.S. letter pages, including all figures, tables, and references. All submissions must be written in English. Submissions should be formatted using the standard IEEE template for Microsoft Word or LaTeX. Authors should indicate their names and affiliations on the first page of the paper. All submissions must be in PDF format and render without error using standard viewers (e.g., Acrobat Reader). Submitted papers must differ significantly in content from previously published papers and must not be currently under review for any other publication.
