Authors who are unsure whether or not their submissions might fit the scope of the conference are welcome to contact the Program Committee Co-Chairs. Paper Formatting Paper submissions should adhere to the IEEE Conference formatting requirements using the templates available here<https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html>, and should not exceed 10 pages excluding references. It is the authors' responsibility to produce readable submissions that comply with the formatting constraints. Violating the formatting requirements to squeeze in additional materials will result in a submission being returned without being reviewed. Submission and Anonymity Policy Papers submitted to the conference will be reviewed through a double-blind review process, where the identities of the authors are withheld from the reviewers (and that of the reviewers from the authors). Achieving this goal requires some care to, on the one hand, preserve the anonymity of your submission, and on the other hand ensuring proper coverage of related past work, including your own. While this requirement may seem challenging, the few basic steps listed below will go a long way towards achieving the desired outcome: Remove all authors' identifiers, e.g., names, emails, and affiliations, from the title page. Remove acknowledgments of and identifiers of funding sources. Use anonymous names for your files, as source file names are often embedded in the final output you generate, and therefore accessible as comments. When referring to your own related work, refer to it in the third person as you would with any other related work by another author. Besides anonymizing your submission, double-blind reviewing also imposes additional requirements on both authors and reviewers. Specifically, while it is permissible for authors to give local talks on their work and release their paper on a non-peer-reviewed location, e.g., an institutional repository or even arXiv, care should be exercised to limit public exposure as much as possible. This requirement includes refraining from advertising the work on mailing lists and public forums, and in general limiting as much as possible the odds that program committee members be exposed to the work and the authors' identity. Conversely, program committee members will be advised to neither actively seek to "reverse engineer" the acquired. All questions authors' identity, nor to directly share with other program committee members any such information they may have regarding possible breaches of the anonymity covenant that underlies the double-blind review process will be adjudicated by the Program Committee Co-Chairs. All papers will be provisionally accepted and the final acceptance of any paper may be subject to shepherding by a member of the program committee. Submission and Plagiarism Policy Papers must present original contributions and can neither be previously published nor under review by another conference or journal. Papers containing plagiarized materials will be subject to the IEEE plagiarism policy and possible penalties and will be rejected without being reviewed. Best Paper Award and Fast-Track Journal Publication One of the accepted papers will be selected for the Best Paper award, and will be fast tracked to the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, with a streamlined journal review process. Presentation and Registration Requirements IEEE ICNP requires that at least one of the authors of any accepted paper must register for the conference at the full rate and be available to present the paper at the conference. While we anticipate ICNP 2022 will be held physically in-person in Lexington, KY, USA, in the unlikely event that the conference is held virtually or partially virtually due to health considerations, we will accommodate requests by authors to present papers remotely, without physical attendance, and subsequently to include the paper in the conference proceedings and in IEEE Xplore. The success of industrial IoT relies on the dynamic perception and intelligent decision-making, which is difficult to conceive due to the heterogeneous industrial devices, the complex industrial environment, and the sophisticated business operation strategy. Digital twin, as an emerging digitalization technology, provides a feasible solution to capture the complex industrial environment and make predictive strategies. It builds a virtual representation of industrial entities and manufacturing process, updated with the physical entities at a specified fidelity and frequency. For example, for industrial manufacturers, digital twins can create digital models of substantial machines, to help us make holistic understanding of how these machines work, make possible modification or predictive maintenance, and take effective actions before devoting much resources and expenditure. The integration of digital twins and the industrial IoT enables a digital revolution of industrial automation. Researchers from industry and academia have focused on the virtualization and digitalization of industrial objects, while there are yet a number of challenges like high-fidelity modularity of digital twins, synchronization between digital and physical objects, interaction and networking among digital twins, scalable and resilient design of digital twin for industrial IoT. This research has led to the development of smart systems at different scales and environments, from smart homes and cities to smart grids and factories. Significant progress has been made through contributions in areas as diverse as control, embedded and real-time systems, wireless communication, and networking. Despite these advances, a lack of standard evaluation criteria and methodologies makes it difficult to measure and compare the utility of this progress. This problem concerns the evaluation against the state of the art in an individual area, the comparability of different integrated designs that span multiple areas (e.g., control and networking), and the applicability of tested scenarios to present and future real-world CPS/IoT applications and deployments. This state of affairs is alarming, as it significantly hinders further progress in CPS and IoT research. The Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet of Things (CPS-IoTBench) has been a forum to bring together researchers from different communities since 2018, to engage in a lively debate on all facets of rigorously evaluating and comparing CPS and IoT solutions. This year, we will have a special session on the benchmarking and reproducibility of AI and machine learning techniques in CPS and IoT systems. CPS-IoTBench provides a venue for learning about each other’s challenges and evaluation methodologies and for debating future research agendas to jointly define the performance metrics and benchmarking scenarios that matter from an overall system perspective. *** Call for Papers and for Reproducibility Studies *** For the workshop's 5th edition, which will take place in a virtual form within CPS-IoT Week, we invite researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to submit papers that focus on one of the following: - Presenting exemplary benchmarking systems and approaches from any of the relevant communities (e.g., embedded systems, real-time systems, networking, wireless communication and control, robotics, machine learning). - Exposing key issues (or support current practice!) on the application and reproducibility of AI and machine learning techniques in CPS and IoT systems. - Identifying fundamental challenges and open questions in rigorous benchmarking and evaluation of CPS and IoT solutions. - Offering a constructive critique on the current practices and state of experimental comparisons. - Designing and evaluating benchmarking methodologies, infrastructures, or tools for cyber-physical and IoT systems. - Benchmarking industrial standardized solutions against each other and against academic solutions. - Presenting novel performance comparisons in the context of cyber-physical and IoT systems. - Reporting on success stories or failures when using standard evaluation criteria. - Describing techniques for improving the reproducibility of real-world testing of wireless systems. - Proposing new research directions, methodologies, or tools to increase the level of reproducibility and comparability of evaluation results. Well-reasoned arguments or preliminary evaluations are sufficient to support a paper’s claims. Unique to this year's workshop edition, we also seek contributions describing the reproduction of experimental results from published work within any of the relevant communities. Examples of this include: - Papers that repeat prior experiments (ideally using the original source code) to show how, why, and when the methods work (or not). - Papers that repeat prior experiments in new contexts (e.g., different application domains or using different evaluation methodologies and metrics) to further generalize and validate (or not) previous work. - Reproducibility studies of a given scientific work for which some key aspect(s) in the experimental setup was unspecified, showing the different spectrum of solutions as a function of such aspect(s). - Evaluations carried out by undergraduate and graduate students, experienced researchers, or industry practitioners looking to validate another piece of work before comparing their own to it. Reports should carefully describe the experimental setup as well as how the authors made sure to carefully reproduce conditions similar to those of the original study. If there are ambiguous conditions not specified in the original study which may affect the outcome (e.g. it is not specified whether the environment is an empty room or full of people), authors are encouraged to highlight, discuss, and empirically explore the impact of changing such a condition. Regardless of the study results, the tone of the report must be constructive and not offensive to the original authors. Prospective authors are invited to contact the original authors of the examined study and let them provide a short discussion paragraph that can be included in the final section within the report. Submissions from the same authors of the reproduced experiments will not be accepted. *** Submission Instructions *** Submitted papers must contain at most 6 pages (US letter, 9pt font size, double-column format, following the IEEE conference proceedings template), including all figures, tables, and references. In such environment, attributing the power consumed by the hardware to specific VEs becomes much more difficult than in networking architectures where the same functionalities are performed by dedicated equipment (e.g., routers or L2 switches). The former leverages wireless communication technologies to enhance mutual awareness among traffic participants. The latter ramps up individual vehicles’ capability of perception and control to achieve better decision making in the complex driving environment. On the surface, the two technologies seem complementary. Information shared by different traffic entities can be added to a vehicle’s dynamic map, extending its perception horizon, and uncovering None-Line-Of-Sight situations which otherwise would not be available via its own onboard sensors. In return, the vehicle can send what it observes through onboard sensors, which might help recipients avoid previously unaware safety hazard. Furthermore, as reported in the state-of-art research, individual vehicles may navigate themselves more efficiently with global information gathered from others on the same road, generating improved driving safety and efficiency. However, the aforementioned complementary natures of vehicle connectivity and automation do not assure the completed integration of these technologies into vehicles and their interactions. There are questions about the cost, benefits, timeline, performance, hardware/software requirement and interface design of such an integrated system. Many of these questions are nontrivial to answer as it needs joint efforts from numerous technology areas. Fortunately, many scholars and research groups have started to explore these questions, paving the road for a cohesive integration of vehicle connectivity with vehicle automation system. This special issue focuses on the most recent advancements in modeling, wireless communications, vehicle perception, mapping and localization technologies, which can improve the collaboration among individual automated, human-driven, or autonomous vehicles and enable novel vehicular cooperative applications. Transportation systems are hence operated through multiple technologies that need to cooperate to provide efficient delivery of goods and human mobility, as well as to provide security in the overall networks. The latter task is complicated by the fact that vehicles autonomously drive and cooperate in the network without human intervention. The overall transportation network can be therefore represented by a cyber-physical system, where a large number of sensors, actuators, and multiple technologies are connected and exchange information. To guarantee the overall network security, attack detection and the design of suitable countermeasures play a fundamental role. The security of cyber-physical systems has been widely studied in literature. However, most of the proposed solutions target either the cyber or the physical threats, without providing a unified view able to detect and mitigate more complicated attacks. The purpose of this special issue is therefore to collect the latest research achievements in the cyber-physical threats and countermeasures in autonomous transportation systems. Compared to terrestrial wireless networks, NTNs have many distinctive features, such as specific channel models, highly dynamic network topologies, and weakly connected communication links. As a consequence, solutions tailored to terrestrial networks cannot be directly applied to NTNs. Hence, new techniques suitable for NTNs need to be developed. Furthermore, various satellite systems on different orbits remain isolated ‘islands’, and they are also disconnected from the ground networks. Therefore, integrating all existing networks in air, space, and on ground into a unified system will be essential for 6G. In the past decade, the research community have produced proven solutions to build low-power mesh networks. Traditionally, the focus has been on short-range radio communication (e.g., ZigBee, Bluetooth, and ZWave). An appealing alternative that have gained momentum in the IoT landscape, is to equip the nodes with long-range low power radio modules. As a result, long-range radio communication technologies (e.g., SigFox, LoRa, NB-IoT, and 802.15.4g) are considered as candidate technologies for many low power wide area network (LPWAN) applications, especially those that require extended coverage such as citywide sensing, environmental monitoring, or remote infrastructure monitoring. The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the field of IoT from both academia and industry, to discuss and explore short- and long-range solutions, the tradeoffs between these two paradigms, as well as how they can be used in synergy. In order to push the state of the art, several points need to be addressed: new features for the long-range technologies (i.e., over-the-air updates, roaming), radio resource management, regulations and policies on spectrum usage and sharing, business case analysis that are more well suited for certain vertical markets. *** Call for Papers *** The topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - protocol design - hardware platform design - modeling and analysis of low-power short or/and long-range communication - reliability, adaptability, and dependability of short and long-range communication solutions - new features for the long-range technologies (i.e., over-the-air updates, roaming) - wake-up radios for short- or/and long-range technologies - radio resource management - satellite IoT solutions - applications domains (e.g., smart cities, smart health, smart buildings, smart transportation) - anomaly detection - security solutions - deployment experiences, case studies, and lessons learned - evaluation and testbeds - regulations and policies on spectrum usage and sharing - business case analysis that are more well suited for certain vertical markets. *** Submission Instructions *** Submitted papers must contain between 4 and 6 single spaced U.S. letter pages, including all figures, tables, and references. While wired or guided media based connections are still considered the most stable forms of connections to this huge network, nowadays the wireless form and anything that supports that are also considered an integral part in this scenario. Even after several stages of advancements of wireless technologies, there remains unsolved issues and challenges of wireless Internet communications, ranging from technology issues to new applications and test-bed developments, especially focusing on next-generation wireless Internet, 5G, 6G, IoT (Internet of Things), Industrial IoT, Healthcare IoT, and related methodologies. There are also middleware issues, challenges to the platform providers, responsibilities for the application developers, and smart object providers. Given this scenario, in this Special Issue (SI), we are interested in novel ideas, concrete technical works, and exchange of points of views. We expect that this would be a platform for academics, educators, and practitioners to present and discuss the latest technologies, developments, practical challenges and approaches to Wireless Internet and anything that is related to this field. SIGCOMM 2022 will accept submissions in two tracks. In the regular research track, papers should significantly advance the state-of-the-art in networking by, for instance, proposing and developing novel ideas or rigorously (re-)evaluating existing ideas. The review process will take the nature of the contribution into account. We strongly encourage authors to discuss not only the benefits but also the limitations of their work. In the experience track, submissions should describe the design, analysis, and evaluation of techniques in commercial or otherwise widely-used deployment. Experience track submissions need not describe new ideas, but are strongly encouraged to elucidate key insights and takeaways gathered from design, deployment, or operational experience. The PC will evaluate these submissions with the understanding that the primary contributions may be in extending the SIGCOMM community's knowledge of how known techniques fare when adapted to real-world settings, and particularly in settings that most in the community cannot duplicate, for reasons of scale or otherwise. All submissions must be double-blind (not revealing author names), but due to the nature of experience track submissions, they may reveal the company or system name. At paper registration time, authors must explicitly indicate both in their paper title and submission form if their paper is preferred to be considered for the experience or regular research track. Each submission will only be considered for the one track identified at submission time. The final conference program will not preserve the distinction between the two tracks. In addition to the main conference, SIGCOMM 2022 will have a series of co-located workshops, tutorials, poster and demo sessions, and conference best paper and SIGCOMM awards. ***Submissions*** Papers submitted to SIGCOMM typically report novel results firmly substantiated by experimentation, deployment, simulation, or analysis. The program committee will judge submissions based upon novelty, significance, correctness, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the SIGCOMM community. Submissions should be in two-column, 10-point format, and can be up to 12 pages in length with as many additional pages as necessary for references and optional appendices. Submissions and final papers may include appendices (following references, not counting against the 12 pages). Reviewers are not required to read appendices or consider them in their review. Authors should thus ensure that the core paper is complete and self-contained. For example, if the appendix provides details of a proof or experiment, the body should summarize the key result. Appendices may also include non-traditional material, such as videos, datasets, and code, all appropriately anonymized. The review process will involve two rounds. Papers that are not selected to proceed after the first round will receive early notification, including reviews. If the work involves human subjects or potentially sensitive data (e.g., user traffic or social network information, evaluation of censorship, etc.), the paper should clearly discuss these issues, perhaps in a separate subsection. Papers must follow basic precepts of ethical research and subscribe to community norms. These include respect for privacy, secure storage of sensitive data, voluntary and informed consent if human subjects are involved or other people are placed at risk, avoiding deceptive practices when not essential, beneficence (maximizing the benefits to an individual or to society while minimizing potential harm to an individual), and risk mitigation. Authors may want to consult the Menlo Report and the ACM ethics policy for further information on ethical principles, and they may find the Allman/Paxson paper in IMC 2007 helpful for a perspective on ethical data sharing. Many organizations have an ethics review process (sometimes called an Institutional Review Board, IRB). In some cases, research work may clearly have no human subjects, and formal institutional review may not be required. (However, a sentence in the paper stating this evaluation is still required.) In many cases, IRB involvement is appropriate. IRB approval of research is an important factor and should be mentioned, but the program committee will independently evaluate the ethical soundness of the work just as they evaluate its technical soundness.
