For twenty years, the International WiMob conference has provided unique opportunities for researchers and developers to interact, share new results, show live demonstrations, and discuss emerging directions in a number of contemporary topics in wireless and mobile computing. WiMob 2024 is soliciting high quality technical papers addressing research challenges in the areas of wireless communications, wireless networking, mobility, nomadicity, ubiquitous computing, services and applications. Papers should present original work validated via analysis, simulation or experimentation. Practical experiences and Testbed trials also are welcome. *** Topics of Interest *** WiMob 2024 will host 5 parallel symposia on: - Wireless Communications - Wireless Networking, Mobility and Nomadicity - Ubiquitous Computing, Services and Applications - Green and Sustainable Communications and Network Computing - Security on Wireless and Mobile Networks A full list of topics for each symposium can be found on the conference web site: http://www.wimob.org/wimob2024/cfp.php *** Instructions for Paper Submission*** All short paper submissions should be written in English with a maximum paper length of 4 pages. The short papers will be included in the conference proceedings, published by IEEE CS Press (IEEE Xplore) and indexed by Scopus and Ei Compendex. Participants submitting posters or demos are required to submit a short paper with a maximum length of 2 pages describing the poster/demo content, the research supporting it, and the relevance and importance to the topics of the conference WiMob. Posters and demos will be included in the conference proceedings. Demo submissions may include an additional 1-page appendix describing the specific contents of the demo that conference attendees would see. Any special technical requirements for the demo should also be described in this appendix. The contents of this appendix will be used to evaluate whether the demo is a good fit for WiMob 2024, but will not be included in the proceedings. Accepted papers must be presented at the conference. At least one author of each accepted paper must register to the conference, by the early date indicated by the organizers, and present the paper. During the conference, posters and demos will be displayed or presented in specified sessions. The recommended display poster size is A1 (594mm by 841mm, portrait). Authors are required to submit formatted paper, original papers (PDF), with graphs, images, and other special areas arranged as intended for the final publication. Papers should be written in English conforming to the IEEE standard conference format (8.5" x 11" - US letter, Two-Column). I4.0 fosters a deep change in the rigid organization model of the factory. The multiple implications of the “connected factory" concept will lead the production environments to unexpected developments, impacting both OT and IT layers. Connected and interacting objects will populate the factories of the future. In the prospected landscape, a progressive and decisive integration of the IT and OT layers is expected to occur, which practitioners are used to refer to as IT/OT convergence, stressing the shortening of the gap (both physical and conceptual) between the manufacturing processes running at the OT layer, and storage, networking, computing resources, and business-oriented software suites populating the IT layer. In this context, emergent paradigms, approaches, and technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), privacy-enhancing technologies (PET), cybersecurity, blockchain (BC), Cloud Continuum, Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM), Zero Waste Manufacturing, Industrial Sustainability, IIoT Platforms, Advanced Service Orchestration in industrial deployments, 5G/6G communication, Digital Twins (DT), and metaverse are key enablers shaping the development of an IT/OT convergent smart factory. The focus of SITE is on the convergence of IT and OT layers within the modern Industry 4/5.0 compliant factories, and the systems and technologies that ease or enable this revolutionary integration. Social Media have helped people to communicate, breaking down the geographical barriers that restricted communication. Through social networks, virtual communication, sharing of information, and community participation are possible even among people in uncomfortable conditions. Today, Social Media are one of the main parts of daily life by affecting sociality, but they are also essential channels through which information travels faster than ever. Analysis of OSN can help to foresee events to manage critical scenarios. The rapid growth in popularity has opened new challenging problems involving numerous computer science fields. These issues have implications for social graph analysis, trust and security, and so on. Moreover, privacy issues and the usage of mobile devices have opened new research fields in the design of decentralized online social networks, which can be considered one of the most important challenges. Furthermore, the current improvement concerning the study and the proposal of new approaches for Social Networks and Media involves not only complex network analysis, and, in particular, the decentralization of social services, but also the introduction of innovative technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Virtual/Mixed Reality to ferry humankind towards the next generation Online Social Networks. In particular, the metaverse is playing a crucial role in this new generation of hyperconnected, gamified, and immersive social networking platforms, and as a consequence the introduction of decentralization in social platforms, thanks to blockchain technology, but in particular through the Web3 and NFTs, as part of the Metaverse world. The workshop targets researchers, doctoral students, people from industry and other people interested in discussing, reflecting and networking on central themes associated with the development and use of social networks. Papers on both theoretical and design aspects of social networks are welcomed, which describe and evaluate novel design methods and system prototypes. According to the latest edition of the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI), global mobile data traffic is projected to increase nearly three-fold from 2020 to 2025, reaching 184 exabytes per month by 2025. This growth is being fuelled by factors such as the proliferation of mobile devices, the increasing availability of high-speed mobile networks, and the growing adoption of data-intensive mobile applications. This trend is coming along with increased capabilities and intelligence of devices, hence offering great opportunities for research innovation and development. Globally, 5G network deployments are becoming generalized, providing higher data speeds at low latency and enhanced throughput to handle more simultaneous connections without causing disruptions when compared with previous mobile generation. However, some issues and challenges have not been fully addressed in 5G mobile networks and they are attracting further research efforts like the emerging applications challenges that are pushing the required quality of service to extreme levels, the mobile edge computing issues for user mobility support in small cells, the tendency towards Open and smart RAN enabling interoperable interfaces, RAN virtualization and push embedded machine learning systems and artificial intelligence back end modules for an enhanced RAN intelligence. These challenges drive the need towards deep research on the next generation of mobile Internet system, the 6G, that would tackle these challenges while deliver new mobile services and defining the fundamental architectural components for the next generation mobile Internet. Notes papers serve, in part, to encourage younger researchers and research teams entering this field of research to share their work. Posters and demos will be included in the conference proceedings. Age of Information (AoI) is an end-to-end metric that can capture one semantic property known as timeliness of information, which is important for information-update and data analytics applications (e.g., crowdsourcing, financial trading, social networks, and online learning), as well as networked monitoring and control systems (e.g., sensor networks, airplane/vehicular control, robotics networks, Internet of Things, and Cyber-Physical Systems). Semantics of Information (SoI) captures properties of information that relate to the “goal” and “purpose” of information, which is also meant to improve the performance of systems that utilize the information. Recent research advances on the Age of Information suggest that many well-known design principles (e.g., for providing high throughput and low delay) that lead to the success of traditional data networks are inappropriate and need to be re-examined for enhancing information freshness in the rapidly emerging real-time applications. In the meantime, the paradigm shift to Semantics of Information toward 6G communications systems is expected to create systems that generate, process, and transmit only a small fraction of information, which will consume less energy and channel resources without sacrificing their effectiveness. Typically, the digital twin systems are generated and then synchronized using data flows in both directions between the real-world physical components and their virtual replica counterparts. Furthermore, a digital twin can enable continuous prototyping, and testing on-demand, without interruption, assuring and self-optimizing the forthcoming 5G network and beyond. It creates virtual replicas of IoT devices in various application scenarios and maintains a device twin for every connected device. Furthermore, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) middleware, service-oriented middleware, and many other middleware modernization approaches are providing a Virtual Automation Bus (VAB) to offer end-to-end connectivity between physical assets and the digital twin through many heterogeneous communication protocols, brokers, and messaging services, while ensuring interoperability among heterogeneous protocols and facilitating cross-layer interaction with the digital twin through VAB. Topics and Scope The main goal of this workshop is to address these challenges and present advanced and innovative tools, techniques, models, architectures, specifications, architectures, and algorithms that bring diverse middleware technologies to DT in IoT applications and services. The main objective of CIoT’24 is to address challenges of clouds and IoT systems from the sensors/machines to the end-users attached to the Cloud while considering the 6G network connecting both IoT and Cloud domains. This workshop provides a platform for the researchers to publish their innovative ideas, extensive analysis of their comparative studies, critical review of existing research, and position papers in the above areas to meet the smart living requirements.
