Starting as a niche application over Wi-Fi, they can now be found in mainstream technologies like Bluetooth LE, LTE Direct and Wireless LANs, and have become the cornerstone of upcoming networking paradigms including mesh and sensor networks, cloud networks, vehicular networks, disruption tolerant and opportunistic networks, and in-body networks. The challenges of this exciting research field are numerous. Examples include how to make smart use of these novel technologies when multiple technologies or a mix of permanent services and on-demand networking opportunities are available to a network node, how to provide robust services in highly dynamic environments, how to efficiently employ and operate heavily resource-constrained devices, and how to develop robust and lightweight algorithms for self-organization and adaptation. IEEE/IFIP WONS, now numbering twelve editions, has established itself as a high quality forum to address these and related challenges. After a one-year break, WONS is able to continue to provide a global platform for rich interactions between experts in their fields, discussing innovative contributions in a stimulating environment. Community Networks are bottom-up initiatives that mix wireless mesh networks with wired networks to provide Internet connectivity but also to enable the on-demand creation of local applications. Contributions are welcomed on the related technical open issues (routing protocols, distributed applications, wireless-wired interaction etc.), social challenges (legal organization and hurdles, instruments to manage community networks, privacy issues etc.) and on hands-on experience on the realization and maintenance of networks. Enriched with several sensing capabilities and networking interfaces, today’s portable devices are enabling new ways of communication including Mobile Networking in Proximity (MNP). This network mode complements the classic scenario with Internet coverage enlarging the range of functionalities of these devices through short-range communications (e.g., Bluetooth, WiFi Direct, etc.) in situations where Internet may not be available. When two devices are in proximity, they could still share information without the need of continual Internet connectivity just exploiting the meeting opportunities and activating an opportunistic hop-by-hop forwarding towa! rds the destination. In this view, the social-aware or social-inspired mobile networking research is increasingly underlining the benefits and the need of having knowledge of the social behavior of users for the MNP design. On one hand, the social behavior of mobile nodes can be extracted from mobility. On the other hand, also online social network interactions may provide information about user’s social behavior. As such, the convergence between the two worlds, the physical offline one made by mobile devices and the cyber online one made by the online social networks is getting more and more important, opening a novel and interesting research field with many challenging issues. The goal of this Computer Networks Special Issue is to solicit the research closely related to the mobile and social networking reporting advances on approaches, methods, and applications envisioning and addressing the challenges in this field. To efficiently facilitate more high data rate services among nearby users and devices, device-to-device (D2D) communication has been proposed and has attracted significant attention in both the academia and the industry because it can offer a wide variety of advantages over the traditional cellular networks, e.g., higher throughput, efficient spectral usage, extended network coverage, improved energy efficiency, delay and fairness, etc. Clearly, D2D is a promising technology and thus a major opportunity for cellular network operators. However, D2D communication is also complex in that many technical challenges have to be addressed before it could be widely adopted, such as quality of service (QoS) guarantee, interference management, channel allocation, communication session setup and management, upgrading of existing infrastructures, economic model and pricing, etc. In addition to these challenges, a major issue is to understand the impact of the social networks. Since mobile devices are typically used and carried by people, a natural question one may ask is: “What are the benefits of considering human’s social relations in D2D communication?” For example, when a person is at work, he might exploit his social connections to nearby co-workers to improve the quality of D2D communications, e.g., by asking the most trustful user/device to relay his network traffic. When there is no trustworthy friend in the vicinity, he might negotiate with nearby users/strangers to achieve cooperative D2D communication by offering relay assistance to each other. Such mutually beneficial actions will also help expand this person’s social network. To date, the potential of this domain has barely been explored, although more and more energy data is becoming available due to the increasing number of deployed smart metering equipment. The aim of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and researchers from both academia and industry to have a forum for discussion and technical presentations of recent advances in the numerous opportunities opened up by the use of energy data in context-aware systems. It furthermore serves as a forum for the smart energy research community to discuss open issues, novel solutions, and future development of smart energy management systems. Of particular interest is work that presents new performance evaluation methods or that creatively applies previously developed methods to make predictions about, or gain insights into key design trade-offs in, computer and networked systems. Conf. on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks (EWSN) February 14-15, 2016 in Graz, Austria www.iti.tugraz.at/EWSN2016 This year's International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks (EWSN 2016) will host a dependability competition that aims to compare the performance of WSN and IoT communication protocols in environments rich with radio interference. Contestants must first submit an abstract describing their approach in detail by the contest registration deadline. The authors of the selected abstracts will be invited to participate in a two-days dedicated competition session and asked to deploy their software on several TelosB replicas spread in an environment with controlled radio inteference. Solutions will be evaluated based on the reliability of transmissions, the end-to-end latency, and the energy-efficiency. A detailed description of the evaluation scenario and metrics can be found at http://www.iti.tugraz.at/EWSN2016/cms/index.php?id=8. CATEGORIES AND PRIZE: Depending on the nature and number of submissions, multiple categories may be defined and cash awards will be given to the winners in each category. ELIGIBILITY Both academia and industry submissions are encouraged. Community Networks are bottom-up initiatives that mix wireless mesh networks with wired networks to provide Internet connectivity but also to enable the on-demand creation of local applications. Effective vehicular connectivity techniques can significantly enhance efficiency of travel, reduce traffic incidents and improve safety, mitigate the impact of congestion, and overall provide a more comfortable experience. Towards this goal, the 2015 IEEE Vehicular Networking Conference (VNC) seeks to bring together researchers, professionals, and practitioners to present and discuss recent developments and challenges in vehicular networking technologies, and their applications. IEEE VNC 2015 will continue the tradition from previous editions to include a poster session to allow the authors to closely interact with, and obtain feedback from, the conference audience on new or on-going research contributions related to vehicular networking. Posters are especially suited for presenting controversial research directions that may generate discussion, or promising ideas not yet fully validated through complete extensive evaluation. IEEE VNC 2015 will also include a demonstration session for researchers to showcase their latest prototypes with media, models, or live demonstrations. The demo session will be co-located with the poster session to ensure maximum visibility and a close interaction with the conference audience. We solicit proposals for demonstrations related to vehicular networking, describing either mature or innovative systems and prototypes developed for commercial use or for research purposes, from industries as well as universities. We especially encourage demos on validating important research issues or showcasing prototypes that demonstrate realistic applications. Kyoto, known as the Cultural Heart of Japan, was the imperial capital of Japan for over a millennium and is one of the best preserved cities in Japan. Seventeen UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites are located in and around Kyoto, 1600 Buddhist temples, 400 Shinto shrines, as well as countless famous gardens and palaces. At the same time, Kyoto is very much a modern city, home to close to 1.5 million people. Kansai International Airport is just 75 minutes out from the city center. Manuscript submissions ---------------------- All paper submissions must be written in English and must be formatted in standard IEEE 2-column format. The mandatory IEEE template in Microsoft Word and LaTeX format can be found at the IEEE templates page. Only Adobe PDF files will be accepted for the review process. All submissions must be made electronically. Submission instructions are provided online. We will consider two different categories of papers: Full papers should describe novel research contributions and are limited in length to eight (8) printed pages (10-point font) including figures, tables, and references. Papers exceeding 8 pages will not be accepted at EDAS, nor reviewed at all. Short papers should be more visionary in nature and may report on work in progress without finished results. They are meant to present novel perspectives, so as to foster discussion about innovative directions and new points of view. They are limited to at most four (4) pages including figures, tables, and references, but might in many cases be even shorter. Accepted short papers will be included in the proceedings and they will be given (a shorter) time for oral presentation at the conference, with more time dedicated to discussions. Please note that the full paper and short paper categories target different kinds of contributions. Papers submitted to a category will not be moved to a different category: a paper will either be accepted for the category where it has been submitted, or it will be rejected. Full papers will not be "downgraded" to short papers. Therefore, please be sure to carefully assess for yourself prior to submission which is the most suitable submission category for your paper, and to make sure that the presentation in the manuscript is well suited to the aims of this category. All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings and will be submitted to the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Call for Papers With smartphones in their pockets, more than 1 billion people now have immediate access to sensing, computation, and connectivity, and this makes it possible to harness the power of the crowd to collect and share data about their surroundings and experiences on a massive scale. Crowdsensing/crowdsourcing is a novel data collection paradigm that leverages this vast mobile sensor network, expanding the scope of research endeavours and allowing civic issues to be addressed, without the need to purchase specialized sensors or install and maintain network infrastructure. Data collected using such applications may come from unexpected yet interesting and valuable sources, and may allow the data to come from previously inaccessible locations and contexts. CASPer 2016 provides a forum for discussion, debate, and collaboration focused on ideas, trends, techniques, and recent advances in crowdsensing and crowdsourcing. We invite original research contributions that advance the state of the art as well as position papers that pose a new direction or present a controversial point of view. Social networks are becoming ubiquitous, offering information on physical things. The separation between cyber, physical, and social systems blurs. This conference offers an interdisciplinary venue to discuss challenges, technologies, and emerging directions in system design and implementation that pertain to the Internet of Things. Many sub-systems need to come together to address the needs of current and future applications. These subsystems extend from cloud back-ends to cyber-physical front ends. Reliability, security, robustness, correctness, and timeliness considerations in new medical, social, environmental, energy, and automation applications must be supported by advances in cloud resource management, network protocols, and smart embedded devices. Applicants should be far enough into their PhD to have a concrete proposal, and have initially outlined the salient issues and proposed research methodology. Applicants should not be planning to submit their PhD thesis or dissertation for at least four months after the DC, so that any advice or input may still be incorporated into the doctoral work. The DC will be a seminar-style event, consisting of short presentations followed by round table discussion. Time will be allotted to each student not only for the presentation, but also for careful, in-depth consideration and discussion amongst the panelists and DC participants. Submissions Topic scope is the same as that listed in the SenSys call for papers. DC submissions should consist of a single PDF document using the SenSys paper template. Starting as a niche application over Wi-Fi, they can now be found in mainstream technologies like Bluetooth LE, LTE Direct and Wireless LANs, and have become the cornerstone of upcoming networking paradigms including mesh and sensor networks, cloud networks, vehicular networks, disruption tolerant and opportunistic networks, and in-body networks. The challenges of this exciting research field are numerous. Examples include how to make smart use of these novel technologies when multiple technologies or a mix of permanent services and on-demand networking opportunities are available to a network node, how to provide robust services in highly dynamic environments, how to efficiently employ and operate heavily resource-constrained devices, and how to develop robust and lightweight algorithms for self-organization and adaptation. Using information and communication technologies for the purpose of development (ICT4D) offers great promise in bridging this gap through its focus on connecting human capacity with computing and informational content. It is well known that Internet access has the capability of fostering development and growth by enabling access to information, education, and opportunities. Wireless technology is a promising solution to this problem of digital exclusion and can be instrumental in democratizing access to the Internet by unfettering developing communities from the encumbering constraints of infrastructure (traditionally associated with broadband Internet provisioning). The focus of the proposed feature topic is on leveraging wireless technologies for development (W4D) to increase the quality of life for a larger segment of human societies by providing them opportunities to connect resources and capacity, especially by provisioning affordable universal Internet access. To reflect recent research advances in using W4D, this feature topic calls for original manuscripts with contributions in, but not limited to, the following topics: - “Global access to the Internet for all” (GAIA) using wireless technologies - Do-it-yourself (DIY) wireless networking (such as community wireless networks) for the developing world - Cost-efficient wireless networked systems appropriate for use in underdeveloped areas - Fault-tolerant resilient wireless networking technologies for the developing world - Rural/remote area wireless solutions (that can work efficiently with resource constraints such as intermittent and unreliable access to power/ networking service) - Simplified network management techniques (including support for heterogeneous service delivery through multiple solutions) - Using cognitive radio technology and 5G standards (with possible native integration of satellites) for GAIA - Techno-economic issues related to W4D (including development of flexible pricing and incentive structures as well as new spectrum access models for wireless) - Techno-political and cultural issues related to using wireless communications for development - Using emerging networking architectures and future Internet architectures [e.g., cloud computing, fog computing, network functions virtualization (NFV), information-centric networking (ICN), software-defined networking (SDN), and delay-tolerant networking (DTN)] with wireless technologies for development. - Using wireless access/ distribution technologies (such as the following) for development: TV white spaces (TVWS); satellite communications using advances in geostationary orbit (GEO) and low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites; low-cost community networks; cellular technologies (such as CDMA 450, the open-source OpenBTS, etc.); wireless mesh and sensor networks; Wi-Fi-Based Long-distance (WiLD) networks; and wireless based wireless regional access networks (WRANs). Its ability to address complex, large-scale problems with robust, adaptable, and efficient solutions results from many years of selection, genetic drift and mutations. Thus, it is not surprising that inventors and researchers often look to natural systems for inspiration and methods for solving problems in human-created artificial environments. This has resulted in the development of evolutionary algorithms including genetic algorithms and swarm algorithms, and of classifier and pattern-detection algorithms, such as neural networks, for solving hard computational problems. A natural evolutionary driver is to survive long enough to create a next-generation of descendants and ensure their survival. One factor in survival is an organism's ability to defend against attackers, both predators and parasites, and against rapid changes in environmental conditions. Analogously, networks and communications systems use cyber security to defend their assets against cyber criminals, hostile organizations, hackers, activists, and sudden changes in the network environment (e.g., DDoS attacks). Many of the defense methods used by natural organisms may be mapped to cyber space to implement effective cyber security. Some examples include immune systems, invader detection, friend vs. foe, camouflage, mimicry, evasion, etc. Many cyber security technologies and systems in common use today have their roots in bio-inspired methods, including anti-virus, intrusion detection, threat behavior analysis, attribution, honeypots, counterattack, and the like. As the threats evolve to evade current cyber security technologies, similarly the bio-inspired security and defense technologies evolve to counter the threat. The goal of this feature topic is twofold: (1) to survey the current academic and industry research in bio-inspired cyber security for communications and networking, so that the ComSoc community can understand the current evolutionary state of cyber threats, defenses, and intelligence, and can plan for future transitions of the research into practical implementations; and (2) to survey current academic and industry system projects, prototypes, and deployed products and services (including threat intelligence services) that implement the next generation of bio-inspired methods. Please note that we recognize that in some cases, details may be limited or obscured for security reasons. The competition is for novel and innovative mobile applications utilizing any computing architecture (stand-alone, client/server, client/proxy/server, peer-to-peer/ad-hoc, cloud/mobile, others). It is intended as a platform-neutral Contest. Applications can be developed for, but not limited to, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry OS 10 and HTML5. The competition consists of three phases. Only Finalists advance to enter the third and last phase of selecting the three top winners. The sensor devices are usually attached to physical objects, providing a real-time, interactive view of the physical world. Although much progress has been made at the system and sensing level, applications for these platforms are considerably lagging behind. Without compelling applications, the vision of the Internet of Things will not be realized. The 2015 International Workshop on Internet of Things towards Applications ( IoT-App'15) aims to provide a forum for researchers to present thoughts and results on IoT applications. We are looking for application descriptions, development, experiences and evaluation in a wide range of domains including, but not limited to homes, offices, medical care, vehicles, transportation, supply chains and education. Particularly, we are interested in identifying new applications that are made possible by the Internet of Things, as well as new challenges these applications will pose to the design of an Internet of Things. TOPICS of INTEREST = Novel IoT applications and services = Application-driven IoT middleware = Mobility and network connectivity in IoT applications = Cloud and/or cloudlet support for IoT applications = Machine learning, data mining and big data analytics = Energy efficiency = Security and privacy = Experiences in developing and deploying operational IoT applications and services We invite technical papers describing original ideas, ground-breaking results, and/or real-world experiences involving innovative IoT applications. Successful submissions will elaborate one or multiple desirable properties as follows: 1) Provide a quantitative analysis of outstanding systems challenges highlighted by the application; 2) Have a quantitative estimate of cost savings relative to the status quo; 3) Make a compelling case that the application will be disruptive. Submissions will be judged on originality, significance, clarity, relevance, and correctness. In addition to citing relevant, published work, authors must cite and relate their submissions to relevant prior publications of the their own. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Submitted papers must be no longer than 6 single-spaced 8.5" x 11" pages in PDF format, including figures, tables, and references, two-column format, using 10-point font and 1 inch margin. These types of networks consist of a number of autonomous or semi-autonomous wireless nodes/objects moving with diverse patterns and speeds while communicating via several radio interfaces simultaneously. Examples of such objects include smartphones and other user mobile devices, robots, cars, unmanned aerial vehicles, sensors, actuators, etc., which are connected in some way to each other and to the Internet. With every object acting as a networking node generating, relaying and/or absorbing data, these networks may serve as a supplementary infrastructure for the provision of smart, ubiquitous, highly contextualized and customized services and applications available anytime-anywhere-anyhow. Achieving this will require global interworking and interoperability amongst objects, which is not typical today. To overcome current shortcomings, a number of research challenges have to be addressed in this area, ranging from initial conceptualization and modelling, to protocols and architectures engineering, and development of suitable tools, applications and services, and to the elaboration of realistic use-case scenarios by taking into account also corresponding societal and economical aspects. Recently other sensing networks and applications have emerged, such as mobile sensing, crowd sensing, smartphone sensing, cyber physical systems, the Internet of Things, etc. Even if their concepts and approaches differ from each other, the real-world problems apply similarly and even extend to challenges like keeping up the interest of human users, enabling privacy and security, etc. Thus, this issue of RealWSN will extend its focus to include all relevant sensing applications. The purpose of RealWSN is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the area of sensor networks, with focus on real-world experiments or deployments of wireless sensor networks. The primary role of ICT in enabling this vision is to keep the decision makers, the stake holders and the citizen constantly updated with fresh information collected around the city. To accomplish this task, next generation cities, will be populated with billions of heterogeneous devices ranging from tiny communicating objects (e.g., actuators, sensors, tags) able to interact with the surrounding environment and remote systems, to high-end nodes (e.g., data centers, workstations) capable of complex operations and to process a huge amount of information. In this futuristic scenario a very special role is played by citizens with their smartphones, tablets and portable devices. They are constantly connected with whatever surroundings them and they are formidable information consumers. Their role however does not end here. Smartphones, in fact, are very powerful devices with constantly increasing processing, communication and sensing capabilities and very recently, a large plethora of proposals have emerged to leverage those capabilities to contribute to the information production process. For instance, citizens roaming around the city may be considered as mobile probes which, by making uses of cyber and physical data accessible by smartphones, can analyze the situation and produce reports to the community. Furthermore smarthphones can actively contributing in creating the communication infrastructure by forwarding data coming from surrounding devices. All in all, cities are going to became a new complex ecosystem which has the potentiality to offer many amazing feature and support innovative application. Unfortunately, fully exploiting, managing and accessing that ecosystem are still far to be fully viable and their fulfillment surely poses a formidable challenge. This Special Issue aims to solicit contributions on novel algorithms, methodological studies and experimentation on how to address the formerly highlighted issues. Specifically on how devise a city-wide networking infrastructure capable to efficiently guarantee communication in the new envisaged ecosystem, to manage the complexity of heterogeneous devices and access technologies, and to guarantee robust, ubiquitous, and secure connectivity over the urban environments. At the same time, beside studying the issues of the city-wide infrastructure deployment, the workshop aims to investigate the potential provided by the end-users devices (e.g. smartphones, tablets) when augmented in order to turn them into active components of the smart-city ecosystem, instead of mere connection end-points. Such a potential includes the possibility to extend the network access in a pervasive way, to provide ubiquitous computing services, and to favor the emergence of "collective intelligence behaviors" through collaboration and direct communication among devices. Moving away from the Internet's legacy host-to-host communication model, CCN/NDN promises a new host-to-data communication model, by leveraging named data, name-based routing and in-network storage for caching. In the modern computation centers, traditional distributed applications may coexist with others that become more and more time-sensitive (cross-border surveillance and object tracking, net gaming, remote video streaming, etc.), and this tends to happen in a virtualized infrastructure. The design of distributed reliable systems must take into account the selection and evaluation of interaction models, software technology choices, temporal behaviour, resource efficiency, performance, scalability, and coordination. In addition, this track calls for dynamic middleware solutions capable of taking context-aware resource management decisions in order to enforce the most appropriate quality levels depending on application SLAs and overall (possibly clustered) visibility of resource status. These solutions are particularly challenging when dealing with large-scale open deployment environments and their associated scalability issues. Novel and relevant application domains push for evolution and disruptive research in this field; only to mention a few, middleware solutions for datacenter resource management optimization for quality-aware online stream processing of big data flows, energy-aware middleware for resource management in smart city/smart grid deployment environments, middleware for cloud-hosted cyber-physical systems with strict requirements on latency and reliability. Internet of Things (IoT) will have an enormous impact on our future infrastructures. In the context of safety and security this is at the same time a challenge (How can we design secure and resilient IoT infrastructures?) and an opportunity (How can we use IoT for better safety and security?). In particular in urban environments, the increasing deployments of IoT technologies and the rapid proliferation of sensored and automated cities are opening up new avenues of threats and opportunities toward public safety and security. Although we have seen various deployments of diverse IoT systems, our understanding of these systems and their implications in the context of safety and security has just scratched the surface. The Second International Conference on Safety and Security with IoT (SaSeIoT 2015) aims to explore these dynamics within the scope of IoT in the context of Safety and Security. The 2nd ACM International Conference on Embedded Systems for Energy-Efficient Built Environments (BuildSys 2015) invites original contributions in the area of intelligent Systems for the Built Environment targeted particularly towards energy efficiency, improving performance, adding novel functionality, as well as deeply understanding infrastructure systems and the intercoupling between them. Over the past six years, BuildSys established itself first as the premier workshop for researchers, developers, and practitioners across interdisciplinary fields to present research results and exchange ideas in all information-driven aspects of the buildings. 2014 marked the first year for BuildSys as a full ACM conference. BuildSys this year will broaden its scope significantly to include all systems within the built environment, including buildings as well as other infrastructure systems such as water, power, transportation that will make up the “smart city” of the future. Today, our daily communications are subject to surveillance by government agencies and private hackers. The purpose could be legal crime investigation or terrorism prevention, or it could be illegal privacy infringement or theft of confidential information. There are often gray areas between legal and illegal surveillance. Despite the controversy, communications-surveillance technologies continue to evolve. However, these sensitive technologies have seldom been reported in the scientific literature, as developers have largely subscribed to the idea of “security by obscurity.” Now, though, many realize that surveillance technologies could be improved much faster via “security by clarity,” with the technologies examined by both good and bad guys. This could also reduce the gray area between legal and illegal activities, thereby protecting privacy. This special issue will foster dissemination of the latest communications and privacy surveillance methodologies. Because of that, new ideas to cope with the so-called “data crunch problem” have been sought, and mobile data offloading has appeared as one of the most promising solutions: the routing of macrocellular traffic through alternative networks. Although mobile data offloading is generally th! ought in terms of WiFi hotspots or femtocell networks, recent developments in the arena of Opportunistic Networks — one of the most interesting evolutions of traditional mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) — have paved the way for researchers from both cellular and MANET backgrounds to work together in the development of new network paradigms, architectures, and techniques that can leverage the potentials of both “worlds” to promote and enhance mobile data offloading. The main objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers from both academia and industry, to discuss current problems that face the development of the future eHealth and AAL services. We encourage the participation of researchers from the sensing network, Internet of Things, Cyber-physical, ubiquitous computing, and signal processing communities, among others, to submit contributions to the workshop. TOPICS OF INTEREST Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following scope: - Smart Ad hoc and wireless sensor networks for eHealth and AAL - Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for eHealth and AAL - Cyber-physicals systems aimed to eHealth and AAL - Cloud and mobile computing for eHealth and AAL - Service oriented architectures for eHealth and AAL - Mobile solutions for eHealth and AAL - eHealth and AAL services design and implementation - Pervasive and ubiquitous computing for eHealth and AAL - Body sensor networks and wearable sensor systems - Network architectures and protocols for eHealth and AAL - Wireless access to eHealth and AAL systems - Security, privacy and trust management for eHealth and AAL - Middleware for eHealth and AAL systems - Detection and tracking algorithms for eHealth and AAL - Fusion information techniques for eHealth and AAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES ==================== Submitted papers must be unpublished and not considered elsewhere for publication. Only electronic submissions in PDF format will be considered. All paper submissions should be written in English with a maximum paper length of six (6) printed pages (10-point font). Three (3) additional page are allowed with a charge of USD100 each. Papers exceeding 9 pages will not be accepted at EDAS. The goal is to provide Ph.D. students in the area of Network and Service management the opportunity to present their Ph.D. work to the wider NOMS audience. Authors who have completed or are expected to complete their thesis work in 2015 are eligible for the Dissertation Paper sessions. The NOMS 2016 Dissertation Paper Committee considers to hand out an award for the best work. The assessment criteria for the award include the relevance of the work for network and service management, the potential of the thesis results’ for future engineering practice, the novelty and contribution of the work, and the quality of publications and software produced as part of the thesis. *Submission Instructions * Eligible authors are invited to submit their work through the JEMS system at https://jems.sbc.org.br/home.cgi?c=2361. The paper must be an extended abstract of the thesis, and the text structure close to that of a regular paper. It must be written in English, with at most 5 pages (excluding references), and formatted according to the IEEE double column style. The URL to the thesis text, as well as the list of papers published in the course of the thesis work, must be included in the reference section. Only PDF submissions will be accepted. The authors of the thesis paper will be the (ex-)student and his/her supervisor(s), thus, defining at most 3 authors. The dissertation chairs may request evidence of the defense or formal submission of the thesis.
