Distributed systems based on networked sensors and actuators with embedded computation capabilities allow for an instrumentation of the physical world at an unprecedented scale and density, thus enabling a new generation of monitoring and control applications. SenSys provides a cross-disciplinary venue for researchers addressing the rich space of networked sensor system design issues to interact, present and exchange research results, and demonstrate their work in a hands-on research exhibition. SenSys 2013 solicits submissions of both poster and demo abstracts in reflecting research and development in the above areas of interest. Contributions from industry presenting prototypes of platforms and solutions that might enhance future innovative applications are also encouraged. Submitted abstracts will be evaluated based on technical merit and innovation as well as their potential to stimulate interesting discussions and exchange of ideas. Authors of accepted abstracts will be given a one-minute slot in a "madness session" during the conference to present their work in front of the conference audience. As with previous editions of SenSys, the best poster and demo will receive an award. All abstracts shall be formatted according to the main conference paper layout. The context is the information characterizing the situation of an entity and providing information about the present status of people, places, things and devices in the environment. An entity is a person, device, place, or object relevant to the interaction between a user and an application, such as location, time, activities, and services. Context awareness allows for customization or creation of the application to match the preferences of the individual user, based on current context such as enterprise environment or home network. A first area of interest concerns the Person Context Awareness. The recent emergence of the so-called social networks, the widespread presence of smartphones equipped by heterogeneous sensors, such as GPS receivers, accelerometers, compasses, microphones and cameras, and the availability of geo-referenced information enable analysis of new context definitions that may concern individual, social, and urban scenarios. Indeed, recently, the available information may include mobility patterns of people and also physical activities (movements), physical status, and emotional conditions. This information is often acquired and shared, in real time, by users. Allowing the reliable extraction and sharing of that information is a fundamental research issue with important applications. It could improve the experience of individual, communities, organizations, and societies by adapting context to the environment (home, hospitals, campuses, offices, etc.). Another area in this field deals with the Object Context Awareness. Context awareness may be implemented using quite different aspects under different environments, conditions, and layers, such as layered context-aware architecture for middleware, context awareness for connecting entities of network components, and infrastructure (Internet protocol, handoff management, sensing, network requirements, network controls and network implementation). This feature topic's scope will include both computing and communications networks, especially mobile computing networks. This topic will focus on more recent relevant topics, such as green context awareness (which would be supported by Technical Subcommittee on Green Communications and Computing [TSCGCC] of the IEEE Communications Society), context-aware security, new context-aware network architecture, and context-awareness for connecting entities (which would be supported by Technical Committee on Satellite and Space Communications [SSC] of the IEEE Communications Society), and context-aware social networks. We will adopt a double-blind review process, where the names of authors and their affiliations are unknown to reviewers until the end of the review process and are not mentioned in the paper. Papers must be submitted electronically through EDAS at http://edas.info . Submissions must be in Adobe PDF format and are not to exceed 16 pages, including text, figures and references. We require that submissions conform to the LNCS style ( http://www.springer.com/lncs ), as the proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. The purpose of the fifth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor Networks (REALWSN) is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the area of sensor networks, with a focus on real-world experiments and deployments. Included are, nonetheless, new forms of sensing such as those that leverage smart phones, Internet of Things, RFIDs, and robots. When working with real-world experiments or deployments, many issues arise: the network environment may be composed of a variety of different technologies, leading to very heterogeneous network structures; software development for large scale networks poses new types of problems; prototype networks may differ significantly from the deployed system; actual sensor network deployments may need a complex combination of autonomous and manual configuration. Furthermore, results obtained through simulation are typically not directly applicable to operational networks and it is therefore imperative for the community to produce results from experimental research. Authors are invited to submit poster and demo abstracts (4 pages, Springer format, 9 or 10 point font size). Accepted abstracts will be included in the proceedings published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Electrical Engineering (LNEE). Accepted abstracts will be indexed by all major digital libraries (e.g., ISI, Scopus, Google Scholar). Currently, the IoT presents a strong focus of research with various initiatives working on the (re)design, application, and use of existing and new Internet technology for the IoT. Several significant challenges should be addressed to fulfil the IoT vision, including security and privacy. The Internet is already under continuous threats and the addition of many additional types of devices and interaction will open new security breaches so as to spark new malicious actions. Security and privacy management for the IoT remains a core challenge. The proposed workshop intends to bring together researchers and practitioners from relevant fields to present and disseminate ongoing research for vision for the security and privacy models, protocols, algorithms, context-awareness for security, and devices that can be implemented in the Internet of Things and to relate these to ubiquitous computing. It aims to facilitate knowledge transfer and synergy, bridge gaps between the IoT and UbiComp research communities and related groups for mutual benefit, to help identify opportunities and challenges for interested researchers, system developers and innovators. It will cover topics at both theoretical and applied aspects in this multi-disciplinary research area. The workshop will be organised in a proactive and encompassing format, i.e., containing a mixture of invited talks, oral presentations and an open panel discussion. Papers should be grounded in existing mobile and ubiquitous multimedia literature and knowledge, and should be written for an interdisciplinary mobile and ubiquitous multimedia audience. Submissions should not have been previously published or be concurrently under submission elsewhere. Papers must be anonymized (remove author and institutional identities, acknowledgement) and must contain an abstract that is less than 150 words long that clearly states the paper's contribution to the field. Submitted PDFs must be no larger than 10 megabytes. Authors are encouraged to submit an illustrative video (max 20 megabytes) to accompany their paper and to demonstrate their system at the conference. Networked games have grown in popularity over the past decade, catalyzed by the spread of mobile and residential Internet connections with high capacities and low latencies that encourage game developers to incorporate networked features into their products. Although networked games have demonstrated commercial, artistic, and technical successes, challenges and opportunities remain as computer technologies continue to grow. Powerful, inexpensive PCs and game consoles provide the potential for immersive, multiplayer game play, but must still overcome the geographic dispersion of gamers to be fun. Cloud computing promises new models for game computation, with the added challenge of delivering interactive game content to players. Cheap, always-connected smartphones and tablets provide a new frontier for game development, but with the connectivity and security challenges that come with mobile, wireless networks. Underneath all this is the challenge of connecting clients and servers over shared and unpredictably congested IP networks. This special issue aims to bring together new research results from a variety of backgrounds that address these core challenges. Topics of interest include networked game-related work in: - scalability, cloud support, and game system architectures; - performance evaluation and optimization; - effective visualization on Internet infrastructures; - efficient message distribution and network protocol design; - latency issues and lag compensation techniques; - operating system enhancements, service platforms, and middleware; - multiplayer usability, quality of experience, and user behavior studies; - mobile games; - security and cheat detection and prevention; and - social networking in multiplayer games. Editors' note: We encourage submissions from both academic and industrial practitioners, especially as they pertain to open source tools or products, but content must have technical merit, not be an advertisement. Submission Guidelines All submissions must be original manuscripts of fewer than 5,000 words, focused on Internet technologies and implementations. They are evolved to complex computer systems that are highly connected while still having to deal with automotive constraints and requirements such as safety, reliability, dependability, quality, and complex supply chain. Especially the increasing connectivity and the recent integration of smart devices (e.g., smartphones) and cloud services as well as the emerging applications give rise to new security and privacy issues. The incentive to protect the driver, the suppliers and the car manufacturers has been generally recognized. This workshop brings together researchers and practitioners in all security related to modern and next generation automotive systems. CyCAR workshop will be colacted with ACM CCS 2013. This workshop offers an opportunity to trigger the transfer of the accumulated knowledge by the ACM CCS community to the car industry while taking into account typical automotive constraints such as interoperability, reliability, dependability, quality, resource constraints or complex supply chain. Not only this is the first time that CCS is organized in Germany (country well known for his cars), this is also the first academic conference workshop only focusing on security and dependability for cyber vehicles. The last ARO workshop (http://www.cybervehicle.umd.edu/[1]) has demonstrated that there is still a lot of security/privacy and dependability issues that need to be resolved, especially with the emergence of vehicles that are fully connected to theirs surrounding objects. The goal of this workshop is to bring together academic and automotive industry researchers to discuss, identify and address the challenges related to achieving secure, dependable and privacy-preserving cybervehicle systems. Opportunistic communication paradigm heavily benefits from the heterogeneous networking and communication infrastructure that currently exist, e.g., mobile networks, P2P networks, with the supporting technologies in data management and system interoperability. Motivated by further examining recent advances in this field and promoting the optimization of the existing methodologies and/or approaches, as well as presenting efficient high performance techniques for extending the survivability of such systems, both in terms of performance and reliability, we are interested in organizing this workshop with the following primary objectives: § Explore new and innovative ideas and improvements of opportunistic networks that can affect the overall performance of the system; § Explore the impact of wireless mobility and resource management in order to offer high performance and resource availability in today¹s computing systems. The workshop also aims at presenting state-of-the-art research and future trends in mobile and heterogeneous opportunistic networking and applications, combining the mobile communication, mobility and resource management field, and in a research pathway in order to present the various concepts that contribute to enable high performance computing. For new technologies or infrastructure designs to be adopted, they must not be only based on sound engineering performance considerations but also present the right economic incentives. Recent changes in regulations of the telecommunication industry make such economic considerations even more urgent. For instance, new concerns such as network neutrality have a significant impact on the evolution of communication networks. At the same time, communication networks and networked systems support increasing economic activity based on applications and services such as cloud computing, social networks, and peer-to-peer networks. The purpose of the fifth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor Networks (REALWSN) is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the area of sensor networks, with focus on real-world experiments or deployments. Included are, nontheless, new forms of sensing such as those that leverage smart phones, Internet of Things, RFIDs, and robots. When working with real-world experiments or deployments, many new issues arise: the network environment may be composed of a variety of different technologies, leading to very heterogeneous network structures; software development for large scale networks poses new types of problems; prototype networks may differ significantly from the deployed system; actual sensor network deployments may need a complex combination of autonomous and manual configuration. Furthermore, results obtained through simulation are typically not directly applicable to operational networks and it is therefore imperative for the community to produce results from experimental research. Authors are invited to submit papers (12 pages, Springer format, 10 point font size) for presentation at the workshop. Papers will be selected based on originality, technical merit, and relevance. Submissions must be fully anonimized, as REALWSN will apply a double-blind review process. Accepted papers will be published by Springer in the Lecture Notes on Electrical Engineering series and indexed by all major digital libraries (e.g., ISI, Scopus, Google Scholar, ...). The problem of understanding and enhancing Quality nof Experience (QoE) in complex, distributed and diverse environments has been and is continuing to be the subject of intense research investigation. Considerable efforts have been devoted to assessing QoE via objective or subjective means for new and emerging multimedia services over modern fixed/mobile devices (e.g. IPTV/HDTV/3DTV, Tablet video call, 3D smartphone). As of today though we do not know how to manage and control QoE in a diverse heterogeneous environment. The variables that affect QoE are just too many and span several disciplinary areas, including multiple technologies, but also psychology and sociology factors. Despite the efforts devoted to QoE studies, managing and controlling user QoE is still an open issue. Call for Papers IEEE Communications Magazine Consumer Communications and Networking Series Perhaps, one of the biggest drivers for the many technological advances we see today is the need for faster and more reliable communications. Emerging applications of such faster and more reliable communications technologies include home entertainment, high-quality visual communication applications, massive multi-player gaming, and personal, body-area and sensor networking. Some of these applications will become key enablers where we are already seeing ubiquitous content generation, manipulation and distribution. For example, TV content (including both non-premium and premium) can now be viewed wherever we are and on any connected device - a concept called TV Everywhere. Another example is high-definition video telephony/conferencing and collaboration over smart connected TV sets. These are all made possible by networking, software and middleware that provide ease of use, security and stunning interactivity to the consumers. We have also seen the technological reach of existing solutions being applied in unconventional ways where all aspects of our digital lives are being consumed to provide novel platforms where interoperation between disparate technologies is now possible. For example, the automotive industry is now producing cars that include ad hoc networks designed to provide multimedia solutions as well as links to wide-area communications via cellular or satellite networks. Using these networking capabilities and interfaces, we see automobile functionality being extended, blurring the boundaries between the car and conventional consumer devices. With this in mind the IEEE Communications Magazine is seeking articles that emphasize consumer networking in whatever physical environment it finds itself. The purpose of the fifth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor Networks (REALWSN) is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the area of sensor networks, with focus on real-world experiments or deployments. Included are, nontheless, new forms of sensing such as those that leverage smart phones, Internet of Things, RFIDs, and robots. When working with real-world experiments or deployments, many new issues arise: the network environment may be composed of a variety of different technologies, leading to very heterogeneous network structures; software development for large scale networks poses new types of problems; prototype networks may differ significantly from the deployed system; actual sensor network deployments may need a complex combination of autonomous and manual configuration. Furthermore, results obtained through simulation are typically not directly applicable to operational networks and it is therefore imperative for the community to produce results from experimental research. Authors are invited to submit papers (12 pages, Springer format, 10 point font size) for presentation at the workshop. Papers will be selected based on originality, technical merit, and relevance. Submissions must be fully anonimized, as REALWSN will apply a double-blind review process. Accepted papers will be published by Springer in the Lecture Notes on Electrical Engineering series and indexed by all major digital libraries (e.g., ISI, Scopus, Google Scholar, ...). The conference is in cooperation with ACM SIGCHI and held on October 28-30, 2013 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. AutomotiveUI '13 will address novel in-vehicle services, models of and concepts for enhancing the driver experience, models of and concepts for driver performance and distraction, effects of developments such as (semi-)autonomous driving, and the varying needs of different user groups (including drivers and passengers). They are evolved to complex computer systems that are highly connected while still having to deal with automotive constraints and requirements such as safety, reliability, dependability, quality, and complex supply chain. Especially the increasing connectivity and the recent integration of smart devices (e.g., smartphones) and cloud services as well as the emerging applications give rise to new security and privacy issues. The incentive to protect the driver, the suppliers and the car manufacturers has been generally recognized. This workshop brings together researchers and practitioners in all security related to modern and next generation automotive systems. CyCAR workshop will be colacted with ACM CCS 2013. This workshop offers an opportunity to trigger the transfer of the accumulated knowledge by the ACM CCS community to the car industry while taking into account typical automotive constraints such as interoperability, reliability, dependability, quality, resource constraints or complex supply chain. Not only this is the first time that CCS is organized in Germany (country well known for his cars), this is also the first academic conference workshop only focusing on security and dependability for cyber vehicles. The last ARO workshop (_http://www.cybervehicle.umd.edu/_ [1]) has demonstrated that there is still a lot of security/privacy and dependability issues that need to be resolved, especially with the emergence of vehicles that are fully connected to theirs surrounding objects. We are excited to announce that the fifth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor will be held at the Como Lake, Italy in September 2013. The purpose of the fifth Workshop on Real-World Wireless Sensor Networks (REALWSN) is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the area of sensor networks, with focus on real-world experiments or deployments. Included are, nontheless, new forms of sensing such as those that leverage smart phones, Internet of Things, RFIDs, and robots. When working with real-world experiments or deployments, many new issues arise: the network environment may be composed of a variety of different technologies, leading to very heterogeneous network structures; software development for large scale networks poses new types of problems; prototype networks may differ significantly from the deployed system; actual sensor network deployments may need a complex combination of autonomous and manual configuration. Furthermore, results obtained through simulation are typically not directly applicable to operational networks and it is therefore imperative for the community to produce results from experimental research. Authors are invited to submit papers (12 pages, Springer format, 10 point font size) for presentation at the workshop. Papers will be selected based on originality, technical merit, and relevance. Submissions must be fully anonimized, as REALWSN will apply a double-blind review process. Accepted papers will be published by Springer in the Lecture Notes on Electrical Engineering series and indexed by all major digital libraries (e.g., ISI, Scopus, Google Scholar, ...). Call details ============ While computing is provided by the cloud and services increasingly pervade our daily lives, dependability and security are no longer restricted to mission or safety critical applications, but rather become a cornerstone of the information society. Unfortunately, large-scale, dynamic, and heterogeneous software systems that typically run continuously, often tend to become inert, brittle, and vulnerable after a while. The key problem is that the most innovative systems and applications are the ones that also suffer most from a significant decrease in dependability and security when compared to traditional critical systems, where dependability and security are fairly well understood as complementary concepts and a variety of proven methods and techniques is available today. In accordance with Laprie we call this effect the dependability gap, which is widened in front of us between demand and supply of dependability, and we can see this trend further fueled by the demand for resource awareness, green computing, and increasing cost pressure. Among technical factors of dependability, software development methods, tools, and techniques contribute to dependability, as defects in software products and services may lead to failure and also provide typical access for malicious attacks. In addition, there is a wide variety of fault and intrusion tolerance techniques available, including persistence provided by databases, redundancy and replication, group communication, transaction monitors, reliable middleware, cloud infrastructures, fragmentation-redundancy-scattering, and trustworthy service-oriented architectures with explicit control of quality of service properties and service level agreements. Furthermore, adaptiveness is envisaged in order to react to observed, or act upon expected changes of the system itself, the context/environment (e.g., resource variability or failure/threat scenarios) or users' needs and expectations. Provided without explicit user intervention, this is also termed autonomous behavior or self-properties, and often involves monitoring, diagnosis (analysis, interpretation), and reconfiguration (repair). In particular, adaptation is also a means to achieve dependability and security in a computing infrastructure with dynamically varying structure and properties.
