While #5G is currently being deployed around the globe, research on #6G
is under way aiming at addressing the coming challenges of drastic
increase of wireless data traffic and support of other usage scenarios.
6G is expected to extend 5G capabilities even further!
---------
This Special Issue of the IEEE/KICS Journal of Communication Networks
aims to provide the scientific community with a comprehensive overview
of the most challenging aspects of 6G mobile networks and present latest
research on promising techniques towards the evolution to 6G.
Prospective authors are invited to submit original manuscripts on topics
including, but not limited to the following:
- Vision, key drivers, new services and requirements for 6G
- System and network architectures for 6G
- Wireless backhaul and fronthaul solutions
- Spectrum and channel modeling for 5G and towards 6G
- Energy efficiency and harvesting technologies
- Multi-level machine learning pipelines in 5G and towards 6G
- 5G and beyond towards 6G testbeds and experimentation
- Security, secrecy and privacy schemes for 5G and towards 6G
- Distributed computing for 5G and towards 6G
- Optical Quantum computing and QKD in 6G
Publication schedule:
- May 25, 2020 (extended): Electronic manuscript submission to JCN website
- August 5, 2020: Reviews returned to authors
- September 30, 2020: Final revised manuscript due

OVERVIEW
========
In recent years, we have seen fast development of wireless
communications, networking, and cloud computing: 4G, 5G and multiaccess
networks greatly enhance the quality of service (QoS) of wireless access
networks; software-
defined networking, network function virtualization, and
information-centric networking largely reduce the cost of network
service providers and improve the quality of experience (QoE) of
end-users; the development of mobile devices and mobile cloud computing
lead to explosive deployment of mobile services and applications; the
recent development of advanced algorithms such as Deep Learning has
shown great potential in resource allocation and service orchestration.
Deep integration of the above technologies provides a large number of
opportunities for realizing the future mobile computing systems. On the
other hand, to realize an efficient and sustainable ecosystem, many
challenges exist. The challenges lie in a wide range, including devices
technologies, communications and networking technologies, cloud and edge
computing technologies, energy harvesting technologies, and incentive
and marketing mechanisms. Among the above-mentioned research directions,
MONAMI 2020 puts special focus on mobile edge computing (MEC), which is
an essential component of the upcoming 5G architecture, and of
fundamental importance to the future mobile computing systems.
MONAMI 2020 offers the opportunity to leading researchers, industry
professionals and academics around the world to meet and discuss the
latest advances in these areas and present results related to
technologies for realizing the sustainable ecosystem of the future
mobile computing systems. The aim of the forum is to disseminate the
latest innovative mobile network solutions for increased competition and
cooperation in an environment with a multitude of access technologies,
network operators and business actors. Potential topics include but are
not limited to the following:
– Multiaccess networks and resource management – Blockchain
technologies in mobile environment – Cooperative communications –
V2X (vehicular to everything) technologies – Mobile network management
and virtualization – Software defined networks for mobile networking
– Routing and resource allocation for hybrid network (hNets) –
Game-theoretical analysis for the future mobile networking market – 5G

for mobile networks – Joint management and orchestration of cloud
and networking – Energy efficiency for multiaccess networks – Energy
harvesting technologies for mobile networks – Advanced algorithms such
as Deep Learning for mobile network management – Security and privacy
issues for emerging mobile services – Emerging multimedia services,

-----------------------
INTRODUCTION
-----------------------
As an emerged promising networking model, the Internet-of-Things (IoT) is a novel paradigm to interconnect a multitude of heterogeneous physical objects and devices. The IoT significantly provides an umbrella for a series of critical building technologies including wireless sensor networks (WSNs), fifth generation (5G) networks, and RFID. The philosophy of the IoT is to develop an intelligent, dynamic, large-scale, and coherent network framework for a wide range of applications and industries. Due to its potential advantages and merits such as high reliability, good scalability and intelligent capacity, the IoT has attracted great attentions and interests from both academia and industry.
As the earliest IEEE international conference on Internet of Things, the 2020 IEEE International Conference on Internet of Things (iThings-2020) will provide a high-profile, leading-edge forum for researchers, engineers, and practitioners from both academic and industrial communities to present state-of-the-art advances and innovations in theories, systems, infrastructure, tools, testbeds, technologies and applications for the IoT, as well as to identify emerging research topics and define the future of everything interconnect via cyberspace.

## MOTIVATION AND RATIONALE
Frugal innovation employs a creative approach to problem solving which
starts from user needs and works to develop contextually appropriate
solutions that have to be scalable, durable and environmentally
sustainable, while using state-of-the-art technologies and know-how.
Frugal innovation explores the introduction of emerging technologies to
new populations, by developing ubiquitous computing systems, designing
interaction techniques, and collecting and analyzing data. Examples of
frugal innovations uncover the facilitating role of digitization and
technological advancements in developing resource efficient and
sustainable solutions. Ubiquitous internet, telecommunication and
technological tools such as 3-D printing, cloud computing, social media,
crowdfunding are a few examples.
The FRUGALTHINGS workshop focuses on frugal innovations and the
application of its goals for the design, implementation, deployment,
operation and evaluation of novel approaches and systems in the emerging
cooperative environments. We are therefore seeking original, previously
unpublished papers empirically addressing key issues and challenges in
the frugal innovation arena.
