Feature Topic on Mobile Cloud Computing
------------------------------------------------------------------
Mobile Cloud Computing refers to an infrastructure where both the data
storage and the data processing occur outside of the mobile device.
Mobile cloud applications move the computing power and data storage away
from mobile phones and into the cloud, bringing applications and mobile
computing not only to smartphone users but also to a much broader range
of mobile subscribers.
Cloud computing has emerged as the leading paradigm for cost efficient
and reliable service provisioning. Today, the rich availability of
energy-harvesting and resource-constrained mobile computing devices is
beginning to converge with the great opportunity offered by the powerful
cloud computing services hosted by virtualized data center resources.
Although mobile applications, cloud computing, and data center
networking techniques have been intensively investigated in the past
couple of years, mobile cloud computing and mobile cloud networking have
not raised the attention of the research community until recently. This
Feature Topic precisely addresses recent advances in this aspect.
Solicited topics include (but are not limited to):
Mobile cloud computing architectures, protocols and services Energy
efficiency in mobile cloud computing and networking Energy management
for mobile devices in mobile cloud computing Resource and service
management, scheduling, and migration in mobile cloud computing Mobile
cloud applications and service models Mobile traffic characterization
and measurements Transport and higher layers in mobile cloud computing
Storage as Service in Mobile Cloud Computing Security, Privacy, access
control Network on the fly, virtual control, virtual radio, isolation
Virtualization of mobile devices and mobile network infrastructures
Unified user and device mobility management Quality of Experience and
Service Level Agreements Discovery of mobile cloud computing services,
data and other resources Situation-/Context-aware networking for mobile
cloud computing Exploring social networks and user collaboration for
mobile cloud computing Location-based mobile cloud applications and
service models Virtualization techniques for mobile cloud computing and
services Security, privacy and virus/malware issues in mobile cloud
computing Mobile cloud enabled Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) solutions
Personal cloud, ad hoc cloud, distributed cloud computing and service
models Cloudlets, mobile cloud sensing and crowdsourcing
Submission Guidelines:
Articles should be tutorial in nature and written in a style
comprehensible to readers outside the specialty of the article. Authors
must follow the IEEE Communications Magazine's guidelines for
preparation of the manuscript. Complete guidelines for prospective
authors can be found at
http://www.comsoc.org/commag/paper-submission-guidelines.
It is very important to note that the IEEE Communications Magazine
strongly limits mathematical content, and the number of figures and
tables. Paper length should not exceed 4,500 words. All articles to be
considered for publication must be submitted through the IEEE Manuscript
Central site (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/commag-ieee) by the

CALL FOR PAPERS
MidSEE 2015
1st Workshop on Middleware for a Smarter Use of Electric Energy
March 12, 2015
in conjunction with NetSys 2015, Cottbus, Germany
https://www.netsys2015.com/workshops-tutorials/midsee/
=======================================================================
MOTIVATION & WORKSHOP SCOPE
Smart energy meters are increasingly installed in newly constructed
buildings worldwide, as regulated by, e.g., the European Union's Energy
Services Directive. Their combination with the vision of an Internet
of Things, in which billions of embedded devices will continually
monitor the environment, enables the fine-grained monitoring of
household and office energy usage and hence a large range of novel
services. While many such functions have been devised so far (e.g.,
advice how to save energy or the disaggregation of electricity bills),
these solutions commonly rely on the availability of hard- and software
systems by a single manufacturer. Interoperability, including the
potential to integrate new energy metering devices, is mostly
unsupported due to the wide variety of (non-compatible) standards and
communication protocols.
This workshop provides a platform to present current research
activities in communications and processing of energy consumption data,
with its primary focus on electric energy usage. The scope of the
workshop includes contributions that address the integration of energy
metering equipment from different manufacturers into a single
middleware system which operates on a building level, as well as novel
means to collect, process and visualize these data. Accepted papers
will not only present novel research results in these domains, but also
comprise an evaluation in which their merits are assessed.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Novel energy metering hardware designs and experiences
- Data collection and command distribution protocols for energy
management systems
- Middleware systems for energy data, including novel local data
processing algorithms
- Control of alternative energy sources to increase their production
efficiency
- Innovative tools to model and visualize energy expenditure and
production
- Sensing and actuation of electrical loads
- Privacy and security in energy management middleware systems
- User interfaces for energy display, management and control
PAPER SUBMISSION
Authors are invited to submit papers of up to 6 pages in IEEE
two-column format. Submissions must be original and should not have
been published previously or be under consideration for publication
while being evaluated for this workshop. Accepted papers will be
published in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. More details about the
ubmission process can be found on the website.

Workshop Goals: The IoT is defining an ecosystem, where it is not only a
network to transfer data, else IoT also is interconnected with Big Data
and Cloud Computing to provide intelligence, in order to be able to
understand the behaviors, and even define control/actions, through Cyber
Physical Systems, according to the information captured by the smart
objects that are able around the emerging smarter cities.
The ecosystem figure presents the general architecture of the IoT
ecosystem, where the data coming from the Internet of Things and Smarter
Cities is integrated into the Cloud Computing.
The presented flow is enabling the interaction between the cloud and the
humans, who are starting to be more actives and more participative with
the processes that are happening in their cities, workspaces and living
areas.
The cloud is taking care of the centralization of the data of each
sensor and object, allowing them to interact and communicate between
them through the creation of a ubiquitous network and solving the
interconnection problem.
The cloud is also enabling the integration of Big Data analysis in order
to reach understandings of behaviors, determination of patterns, and
extraction of knowledge from the data.
Finally, as a result and the cross integration of all the technologies,
a new level of control and feedback mechanisms are being developed in
order to enhance the processes. This workshop looks for
multidisciplinary works that mixes the IoT with social aspects, IoT with
Big Data, IoT with the cloud computing, and IoT as an enabler for Cyber
Physical Systems. Finally, applications of the IoT and solutions that
integrate multiple off the enablers presented in the CrossIoT loop are
also highly encouraged to participate in this event.

Preliminary Call for Papers
ACM e-Energy 2015
The Sixth International Conference on Future Energy Systems
http://conferences.sigcomm.org/eenergy/2015/
Bangalore, India
June 2015 (Exact date TBC)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As countries round the world rally to reduce their carbon emissions in
the face of rising energy costs, there is a growing need to research
computing and communication technologies that will support smarter and
more sustainable energy solutions (e.g., Smart Grid). Such technologies,
measure, monitor and control energy systems (e.g., micro-grids and
electric vehicles); inform and shape human demand; aid in the
prediction, deployment, storage and control of energy resources;
and determine how utilities, generators, regulators, and consumers
measure, analyze, and collectively control system elements. In turn,
the exponential growth in the deployment of communication and computing
technologies has made them large-scale energy consumers. Therefore,
new architectures, technologies and systems are being developed and
deployed to make computing and networked system more energy efficient.
The Sixth International Conference on Future Energy Systems (ACM
e-Energy), to be held in Bangalore, India in June 2015, aims to be the
premier venue for researchers working in the broad areas of computing
and communication for smart energy systems (including the smart
grid), and in energy-efficient computing and communication systems.
By bringing together researchers from a range of disciplines in a
high-quality single-track conference with significant opportunities
for individual and small-group interaction, it will serve as a major
forum for presentations and discussions that will shape the future of
this area.
We solicit high-quality papers in the areas of computing and
communication for the Smart Grid and energy-efficient computing and

Camera-Ready Deadline: August 25, 2014
About SCUCA 2014:
---------------------------
Cities and urban areas in general are experiencing immense growth in the
last few years as they are the centers of economic activities. Regarding
future trends, it is estimated that 93% of urban growth will occur in
developing nations, with 80% of urban growth occurring in Asia and
Africa. Urged by these observations, city halls and political decision
makers are calling for urgent solutions to the growing problems caused
by this increasing population concentration. Recent advances in
information and communication technologies may stimulate new solutions
towards the urbanization problems, and the mission of this workshop is
to present recent achievements in ubiquitous computing from a smart
cities perspective.
Smart city research mainly focuses on applying next-generation
information technologies in daily activities, like embedding sensors and
actuators in hospitals, power grids, roads, buildings, water systems,
vehicles, and other objects forming the Internet of Things (IoT). A
recent study identifies five industry sectors that are core to the
development of smart cities: energy, water, transportation, buildings,
and government.
This Workshop addresses the aforementioned issues by examining new
technological developments, under the context of ubiquitous computing
and smart environments, in the general areas of: Machine-to-Machine
(M2M) and Mobile Communications, IoT architectures, data storage and
handling, security and privacy, reliability and fault tolerance, risk
analysis and service business models. Experiences from deployments and
case studies related to the aforementioned subject areas are
particularly welcome.
The Call for Papers covers (but is not limited to) the areas of:
