Towards this goal, IEEE DCOSS 2011 solicits demonstrations presenting recent original results or ongoing research in the general area of sensor networks. Authors are invited to submit interesting results on all aspects of sensor networks, including algorithms, protocols, systems and applications. Demonstrations provide a venue for hands-on experience for conference attendees and a means for researchers and attendees to interact with new research prototypes and testbeds. Each demonstration presenter will have the opportunity to present a one-minute rapid oral presentation of their work to attendees. This oral presentation will help generate interest in the topic of the demonstration, to encourage attendees to learn more. All demonstrations will be reviewed and judged based on their originality, technical contribution and, particularly, their potential to generate interesting and interactive exchanges of ideas. ** Abstracts: ** Demonstration abstracts are limited to 2 pages in standard IEEE Transactions format (http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/authors/transjnl/index.html#template) and should highlight the leading ideas of the on-going research and its expected outcome and impact. Mit freundlichen Grüssen aus Aachen, James Gross 36th Meeting of VDE/ITG Working Group 5.2.4 Mobilität in IP-basierten Netzen / Mobility in IP-based networks & 1st GI/ITG KuVS Fachgespräch Simulation and Prototyping Environments for Mobile / Wireless Research July 13th and 14th, 2011 / UMIC Research Centre / RWTH Aachen http://www.performance.rwth-aachen.de/events/simulation-and-prototyping-env… During the last 5 years the mobile/wireless networking research community has witnessed a vast improvement in the design and availability of tools to evaluate architectures and algorithms for mobile communication systems. On the one hand this relates to network simulations, where entirely new tools (like ns-3) have been released while existing ones have been continuously improved regarding model availability, parallelization and emulation capabilities. On the other hand, more and more prototyping platforms are available which allow the real-world evaluation of new approaches not only in the domain of sensor networks (where test networks like TWIST are available), but also for more advanced concepts like MANETS, VANETS, mesh and LTE networks (by means of prototyping platforms like WARP, GNU radio, CALradio or OPENAIRinterface.org ). While this diversity is quite beneficial for the research community in general, it is increasingly difficult to choose the appropriate tool for an evaluation study in the domain of wireless/mobile networks. Apart from the basic requirement of being aware of a tool, its capabilities and its availability are crucial factors that determine the choice. The objective of this workshop is to provide an overview of this highly dynamic field. We intend to bring together stakeholders from telecom operators, manufacturers, standardization and academia to discuss the state-of-the-art, usability and availability of simulations and prototyping environments. Contributions of particular interest include, but are not limited to * General simulation / prototyping tools for mobile/wireless networks * Specialized simulation models / frameworks (link/system/protocol level) * Scalability of simulation models and parallel network simulation * Emulation tools/models and hybrid simulation * Software for prototyping environments * Recent research results either from novel simulation models or from prototyping environments emphasizing the value of the tool * Demonstrations of simulation and prototyping tools The open workshop will take place on July 14th at the UMIC Research Centre of RWTH Aachen University. In the afternoon of July 13th the UMIC Research Centre organizes a day of the open house where all participants are invited as well. Please inform the workshop organizers about your planned contribution by *May 31st*. Contributions are typically presentations of 10 to 20 minutes length. Scope Due to the strong growth in mobile devices, networked embedded systems, wireless sensors, and the ever increasing information computing power offered by computing clusters and information services over stationary networks, the integration of network computing and mobile systems presents new challenges, especially with respect to the dependability of integrated applications: accepted measures of availability, costs, and quality of service for high-bandwidth, high quality stationary systems, have to be re-thought, facing possibly new dependability paradigms for cheap, resource restricted, unreliable mobile systems with low-bandwidth communication facilities, being embedded and subject to the conditions in the physical world. This workshop solicits papers addressing dependability issues related to the design, analysis, and implementation, of infrastructures, systems, architectures, algorithms and protocols that deal with network computing and mobile and ubiquitous systems. Paper submission Authors should prepare a Portable Document Format (PDF) version of their full paper. Papers must be no longer than 10 pages, papers on evolving research and work in progress should be no longer than 5 pages, following the IEEE two-column format for conference proceedings. The font size must be no smaller than 10 points, and must fit properly on US "Letter"-sized paper (8.5 x 11 inches). All the submissions should be made through EasyChair. The aim of Kaleidoscope is to identify emerging developments in information and communication technologies (ICTs) at an early stage, to generate successful products and services through the development of international and open standards. Developing these standards will require concerted efforts by many stakeholders, including relevant UN agencies. This conference shall help to further such collaborations.
