Betreff: Deadline Extension - IEEE DCOSS 2011 Demo Session - April 18th
Datum: Wed, 06 Apr 2011 10:54:50 +0200
Von: Simon Duquennoy <simonduq(a)sics.se>

[We apologize for multiple copies]
The deadline for IEEE DCOSS 2011 demo submissions is extended by 2 weeks
(April 18th).
** Demonstration Session: **
IEEE DCOSS 2011 will feature a demo session that provides a forum for
distributed computing and sensor network researchers and developers from
academia, industry, and government to interact with and explore the
latest research results. Towards this goal, IEEE DCOSS 2011 solicits
demonstrations presenting recent original results or ongoing research in
the general area of sensor networks. Authors are invited to submit
interesting results on all aspects of sensor networks, including
algorithms, protocols, systems and applications.
Demonstrations provide a venue for hands-on experience for conference
attendees and a means for researchers and attendees to interact with new
research prototypes and testbeds.
Each demonstration presenter will have the opportunity to present a
one-minute rapid oral presentation of their work to attendees. This oral
presentation will help generate interest in the topic of the
demonstration, to encourage attendees to learn more.
All demonstrations will be reviewed and judged based on their
originality, technical contribution and, particularly, their potential
to generate interesting and interactive exchanges of ideas.
** Abstracts: **
Demonstration abstracts are limited to 2 pages in standard IEEE
Transactions format
(http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/authors/transjnl/index.html#template)
and should highlight the leading ideas of the on-going research and its
expected outcome and impact. All accepted abstracts will appear in
hardcopy. Demonstration abstracts should describe the demonstration
activity, and in particular, describe special requirements for space and
dedicated frequency channels, if any. Accepted demonstrations must be
presented at the workshop, and at least one author must be registered
for the conference.
** Submission Instructions: **
Poster abstracts submissions via EDAS.
** Important dates: **
Abstracts Submission Deadline: 2011 April 18th

Simulation and Prototyping Environments
for Mobile / Wireless Research
July 13th and 14th, 2011 / UMIC Research Centre / RWTH Aachen
http://www.performance.rwth-aachen.de/events/simulation-and-prototyping-env…
During the last 5 years the mobile/wireless networking research
community has witnessed a vast improvement in the design and
availability of tools to evaluate architectures and algorithms for
mobile communication systems. On the one hand this relates to network
simulations, where
entirely new tools (like ns-3) have been released while existing ones
have been continuously improved regarding model availability,
parallelization and emulation capabilities. On the other hand, more and
more prototyping platforms are available which allow the real-world
evaluation
of new approaches not only in the domain of sensor networks (where test
networks like TWIST are available), but also for more advanced concepts
like MANETS, VANETS, mesh and LTE networks (by means of prototyping
platforms like WARP, GNU radio, CALradio or
OPENAIRinterface.org ).
While this diversity is quite beneficial for the research community in
general, it is increasingly difficult to choose the appropriate tool for
an evaluation study in the domain of wireless/mobile networks. Apart
from the basic requirement of being aware of a tool, its capabilities
and its
availability are crucial factors that determine the choice. The
objective of this workshop is to provide an overview of this highly
dynamic field. We intend to bring together stakeholders from telecom
operators, manufacturers, standardization and academia to discuss the
state-of-the-art,
usability and availability of simulations and prototyping environments.
Contributions of particular interest include, but are not limited to
* General simulation / prototyping tools for mobile/wireless networks
* Specialized simulation models / frameworks (link/system/protocol
level)
* Scalability of simulation models and parallel network simulation
* Emulation tools/models and hybrid simulation
* Software for prototyping environments
* Recent research results either from novel simulation models or
from prototyping environments emphasizing the value of the tool
* Demonstrations of simulation and prototyping tools
The open workshop will take place on July 14th at the UMIC Research
Centre of RWTH Aachen University. In the afternoon of July 13th the UMIC
Research Centre organizes a day of the open house where all participants
are invited as well.
Please inform the workshop organizers about your planned contribution by
*May 31st*. Contributions are typically presentations of 10 to 20
minutes length. The number of presentation slots is limited and assigned
on a first come first served basis. The workshop program will be
published by *June 15th*. To attend the workshop, please register by
email before *June 30th*. For further questions, do not hesitate

CALL FOR PAPERS
4th International Workshop on Dependable Network Computing and Mobile
Systems (DNCMS 2011), to be held in conjunction with SRDS 2011
October 4, 2011, Madrid, Spain
Web site: http://www.scs.ryerson.ca/iwoungan/DNCMS2011/
1. Scope
Due to the strong growth in mobile devices, networked embedded systems,
wireless sensors, and the ever increasing information computing power
offered by computing clusters and information services over stationary
networks, the integration of network computing and mobile systems
presents new challenges, especially with respect to the dependability
of integrated applications: accepted measures of availability, costs,
and quality of service for high-bandwidth, high quality stationary
systems, have to be re-thought, facing possibly new dependability
paradigms for cheap, resource restricted, unreliable mobile systems
with low-bandwidth communication facilities, being embedded and
subject to the conditions in the physical world. This workshop
solicits papers addressing dependability issues related to the design,
analysis, and implementation, of infrastructures, systems, architectures,
algorithms and protocols that deal with network computing and mobile
and ubiquitous systems. Topics include, but are not limited to:
• Wireless communication protocols and mobile networks
• Sensor networks
• Architectures and middleware for mobile device integration
• Location-based computing and data analysis
• Intelligent sensors in networked environments
• Cluster computing, ubiquitous computing, grid-computing
for mobile applications
• Distributed data mining for mobile applications
• Ubiquitous Knowledge Discovery
• Applications such as cooperative mobile robots, embedded applications
• Hardware security methods for mobile applications
• Security methods for network computing and mobile systems
• Intelligent mobile systems
2. Paper submission
Authors should prepare a Portable Document Format (PDF) version of their
full paper. Papers must be no longer than 10 pages, papers on evolving
research and work in progress should be no longer than 5 pages, following
the IEEE two-column format for conference proceedings. The font size must
be no smaller than 10 points, and must fit properly on US "Letter"-sized
paper (8.5 x 11 inches).
All the submissions should be made through EasyChair. The submission page
for DNCMS 2011 is: http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=dncms2011
In order to submit your paper, you must first create an EasyChair account
if you do not have one already, using https://www.easychair.org/login.cgi.
The EasyChair system will then e-mail you your password. Then you can login
to EasyChair using the password you have received by email.
Accepted papers will be included in the Workshop Proceedings published by
IEEE Computer Society Press, and distributed at the Symposium, provided
that at least one of its authors registers by the early registration
deadline. The papers will also be made available online from the
Workshop web pages.
3. Important Dates:
• Submission of papers: June 10, 2011
• Acceptance notification: June 24, 2011
• Submission of camera-ready papers: July 8, 2011
• Workshops date: October 4, 2011

Dear SIGCOMM Community Members:
This is the April 2011 List Digest. If you want an announcement
relevant to the computer networks research community to appear in this
forum, please send me a message before the 1st of each month.
MAILING LIST POLICIES: This mailing list is for disseminating information
of interest to the general SIGCOMM membership. To keep information content
high and scope narrow, direct posts are restricted to events that are
sponsored by SIGCOMM. Due to the wide variety of topics in networking, it
focuses on relatively "mainstream" networking conferences and workshops.
In particular, due to the large number of venues in the wireless, mobile,
ad-hoc, and sensor areas, unless an event is sponsored or in-cooperation
with SIGCOMM, we do not advertize those topics, since there are many other
mechanisms and communities for doing so.
SENDING ME MAIL: This email address gets about 2500 emails a month, 99.999
percent of which is SPAM. please put [SIGCOMM] at the beginning of
the Subject: header, otherwise I will not see it.
SENDING TO THE MAILING LIST: This is a moderated mailing list that requires
my approval to post. Again, due to spam, I don't approve requests to post
to the list. Instead, send the request to me as described above.

The 13th International Conference on Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp
2011) will be held in Beijing, China on September 17-21, 2011.
UbiComp 2011 welcomes original, high-quality research contributions
that advance the state of the art in the design, development,
deployment, evaluation and understanding of ubiquitous computing
systems and their applications. Ubicomp is an interdisciplinary field
that includes technologies that bridge the digital and physical
worlds, systems and applications that incorporate such technologies,
infrastructures that support them, human activities and experiences
these technologies facilitate, and conceptual overviews that help us
understand – or challenge our understanding of – the impact of these
technologies.
Relevant topic areas for full papers and notes include, but are not
limited to:
• devices & techniques – descriptions of the design,
architecture, usage and evaluation of devices and techniques that
create valuable new capabilities for ubiquitous computing
• systems & infrastructures – descriptions of the design,
architecture, deployment and evaluation of systems and infrastructures
that support ubiquitous computing
• applications – descriptions of the design and/or study of
applications that leverage Ubicomp devices and systems
• methodologies & tools – new methods and tools applied to
studying or building Ubicomp systems and applications
• theories & models – critical analysis or organizing theory
with clear relevance to the design or study of Ubicomp systems
• experiences – empirical investigations of the use of new or
existing Ubicomp technologies with clear relevance to the design and
deployment of future Ubicomp systems
Although it is expected that papers will focus on one or a small
number of the aforementioned areas, authors should write for the
broader Ubicomp audience, and make clear how the work contributes to
the Ubicomp field as a whole.
UbiComp 2011 will also include workshops, tutorials, live
demonstrations, posters, video presentations, industrial exhibition
and a doctoral colloquium.
A new addition this year is a Student Film Festival. Student teams are
encouraged to submit video scenarios or prototypes (real or imagined)
of the future of Ubicomp. The juried festival will offer awards across
a number of categories.

ITU Kaleidoscope 2011:
The fully networked human? - Innovations for future networks and services
Conference website: http://itu-kaleidoscope.org/2011
Submission deadline: 15 May 2011
Conference date: 12-14 December 2011
Conference venue: University of Cape Town, South Africa
********************************************************************************
==The Conference==
Kaleidoscope 2011 The fully networked human? − Innovations for future
networks and services − is the fourth in a series of peer-reviewed
academic conferences organized by ITU that brings together a wide range
of ideas and views from universities, industry and research institutions
of different fields. The previous editions were held in Switzerland,
Argentina and India. The aim of Kaleidoscope is to identify emerging
developments in information and communication technologies (ICTs) at an
early stage, to generate successful products and services through the
development of international and open standards.
ICTs have already changed the way we live, work, learn, think and
communicate. Ever smaller and smarter sensors proliferate, wireless
networks are omnipresent, and smartphones are abundant. In the future,
the impact of ICTs will be further amplified through the increasing
deployment of ubiquitous/pervasive/human-centric computing and ambient
intelligence. In this environment, the user is placed at the center, and
virtualized networks, other IT resources, services and applications are
adaptively and automatically configured to support the users in carrying
out their everyday life activities.
Besides many technical issues to be addressed, this also raises serious
questions about access to ICTs, privacy, interoperability and
sustainability. Future technologies should be designed to benefit
humans, not the other way round. To address these issues, standards are
indispensable. Developing these standards will require concerted efforts
by many stakeholders, including relevant UN agencies. This conference
shall help to further such collaborations.
The fully networked human? − Innovations for future networks and
services is calling for original academic papers offering innovative and
bold approaches in research and development to integrate the real and
the digital worlds.
==Audience==
Kaleidoscope 2011 is targeted at all specialists with a role in the
field, including researchers, academics, students, engineers,
