## SCOPE
Low-power wide area networks for Internet of Things (e.g., LoRa, NB-IoT)
have attracted increasing research interest and efforts recently. Despite
their rapid proliferation, there are many challenges and unsolved problems
on the path towards reliable large-scale real-world applications. This
workshop aims to bring researchers and practitioners from both academia and
industry together to explore the challenges and opportunities in the
design, development, implementation, and deployment of low-power networks
for Internet of Things in challenging wide area environments.
The 1st International Workshop on Wireless outdoor, Long-Range and
Low-Power Networks (WoLoLo), in conjunction with IEEE WoWMoM 2023, is
intended to be a forum to share the experiences about latest research
regarding low-power and long range wireless networks ranging from novel
architectures, power-management and efficient on-sensor processing to
protocols and systems for long-range communication including network
management. Experiences, challenges, and also failures of real world
deployments are also highly welcome to be discussed in this workshop. The
main topics of the workshop shall fall into at least one of the following
categories:
* Protocol design for Low-power long-range networks
* Low-power long-range network system implementation * Software tools and
codes for low-power long-range network design and implementation
* On-Sensor processing for data and bandwidth reduction * Power-management
techniques for long-term operation of long-range networks
* Techniques to improve the performance of low-power long-range networks
* Practical experiences with LoRa(WAN), NB-IOT, etc system designs
* Datasets gathered from real-world applications for low power networks
* Integration of low-power long-range networks into the Internet of Things

Betreff: CPS-IoTBench 2023: Call for Papers and for Reproducibility Studies
Datum: Thu, 15 Dec 2022 12:44:14 +0000
Von: Michael Baddeley <Michael.Baddeley(a)tii.ae>
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 6th Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet of Things
(CPS-IoTBench2023) --https://www.iotbench.ethz.ch/cps-iotbench-2023/
<https://www.iotbench.ethz.ch/cps-iotbench-2023/>
Co-located withCPS-IoT Week -- May 9, 2023
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last decade, research on Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Internet
of Things (IoT) has led to smart systems at different scales and
environments, from smart homes to smart cities and smart factories. Despite
many successes, it is difficult to measure and compare the utility of these
results due to a lack of standard evaluation criteria and methodologies.
This problem inhibits evaluation against the state-of-the-art, the
comparability of different integrated designs (e.g., control and
networking), and the applicability of tested scenarios to present and
future real-world cyber-physical applications and deployments. This state
of affairs is alarming, as it significantly hinders further progress in CPS
and IoT systems research.
The Workshop on Benchmarking Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet of Things
(CPS-IoTBench) brings together researchers from the different
sub-communities of CPS-IoT Week to engage in a lively debate on all facets
of rigorously evaluating and comparing experimental results on
cyber-physical networks and systems.
*Following the success of last year, we once again will have a special
session on the benchmarking and reproducibility of AI and machine learning
techniques in CPS and IoT systems.*
For the workshop's 6th edition, we invite researchers and practitioners
from academia and industry to submit papers (up to 6 pages, double-column)
focusing on one of the following topics:
- Identify fundamental challenges and open questions in CPS and IoT systems
through rigorous benchmarking and evaluation.
- Expose key issues (or support current practice!) on the application and
reproducibility of AI and machine learning techniques in CPS and IoT systems.
- Report on success stories or failures with using standard evaluation
criteria.
- Present example benchmark systems and approaches from any of the relevant
communities (embedded systems, networking, low-power wireless, control,
robotics, machine learning, etc.).
- Propose new research directions, methodologies, or tools to increase the
level of reproducibility and comparability of evaluation results.
- Report on examples of best practices in different CPS-IoT sub-communities
towards achieving the repeatability of results.
- Present models to capture and compare the properties of algorithms and
systems.
Well-reasoned arguments or preliminary evaluations are sufficient to
support a paper’s claims.
Unique to this workshop, we also seek reports describing the reproduction
of experimental results from published papers within any of the relevant
communities (embedded systems, networking, AI and machine learning,
low-power wireless, control, robotics, etc.). Examples of this include:
- Reproducibility studies of a given scientific paper or article.
- Evaluations carried out by researchers or industry practitioners looking
to validate another piece of work before comparing their own to it.
- Reproducibility studies of a given scientific work for which some key
aspect(s) in the experimental setup was unspecified, showing the different
spectrum of solutions as a function of such aspect(s).
Such reports can be submitted using up to 6 pages, double-column format and
should carefully describe the experimental setup as well as how the authors
made sure to carefully reproduce the same conditions as in the original
study. Regardless of the study results, the tone of the report will be
constructive and not offensive with respect to the original authors.
Prospect authors are invited to contact the original authors of the
examined study and let them provide a short rebuttal paragraph that can be
included in the final section within the report.

Policy on Concurrent/Previous submissions
Papers whose contributions overlap with work currently under review
elsewhere must not be submitted to ACM MobiSys. Papers whose contributions
overlap with an earlier published paper will be considered only if (1) the
previous paper was published (not just accepted) at a workshop at least 6
months before ACM MobiSys submission date and (2) it adds significant new
contributions over the previous paper. Authors uncertain whether their
submission meets these guidelines should contact the program chairs. Papers
accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms will not be considered.
Accepted submissions will be treated as confidential prior to publication;
rejected submissions will be permanently treated as confidential.
Posted technical reports (ArXiv or similar) do not count as prior
publication. However, (inspired by similar guidelines from ACM ASPLOS’23)
we encourage the authors to (1) use different system names in the technical
report and MobiSys submission and (2) avoid publicizing the technical
report on social media or community blogs and webpages while it is under
review by MobiSys.
Double-Blind Review Process
ACM MobiSys will use a double-blind review policy during the initial paper
review. Authors are instructed to not include their names, affiliations,
and contact information on the manuscript they submit for review. Authors
should also anonymize the content of their paper to hide their identity.
Reviewers will not know the identity of the authors until an outcome is
decided for the paper. Only PC chairs will know the identity of the authors
and be able to interact with them during the review process, should the
need arise. Submissions which are not properly anonymized will be rejected
without being reviewed.
Submissions will be judged on originality, significance, interest, clarity,
relevance, and technical correctness. Papers may be conditionally accepted
and shepherded by a member of the program committee, with final acceptance
determined by consent of the shepherd.
Formatting Guidelines
Submissions must be in PDF. We will not accept papers in any other format.
Submissions must use a 10pt font (or larger) and be correctly formatted for
printing on Letter-sized (8.5" by 11") paper. Paper text blocks must follow
ACM guidelines: double-column, with each column 9.25" by 3.33", 0.33" space
between columns and single-spaced. Submissions MUST be no more than twelve
(12) pages + unlimited number of pages for bibliography references. The
12-page limit includes everything (e.g., abstract, text, appendix, etc.)
except for the bibliography references. Submissions can use this LaTex
template that is known to comply with the formatting requirements. Authors
remain responsible for checking that their resulting PDF meets our
formatting and anonymity specifications. Submissions not following these
guidelines will be rejected without review.
IRB Approval Requirement
As part of the submission process, authors of papers that describe
experiments on human subjects, or that analyze nonpublic data derived from
human subjects (even anonymized data), will be asked to certify that their
work was vetted by an ethics review (e.g., IRB approval). We expect authors
to follow the rules of their host institutions around data collection and
experiments with human subjects.
Mandatory Registration
At least one author of an accepted paper is expected to register for the
conference (at non-student rate) and present the paper in-person. The
MobiSys organizers will monitor the pandemic situation in case
accommodations are needed.
Artifact Evaluation
Submissions may opt for an artifact evaluation. When authors do so, they
commit to providing the implementations, models, test suites, benchmarks,
and data used to derive the results presented in the paper to the artifact
evaluation committee. Based on the evaluation, the papers will be awarded
the appropriate artifact evaluation badge
https://www.acm.org/publications/policies/artifact-review-badging. The
artifact evaluation will be conducted after paper acceptance decisions.
*(New) Early Rejection Notification and Rebuttal *
MobiSys’23 will have early rejection notifications and a rebuttal phase.
The authors of the papers that do not advance to the second round of review
will be notified of the rejection of their paper. This allows the authors
to plan for another submission and not have to wait for the MobiSys review
process to come to an end. The papers that do advance to the second round
of review will get a chance to submit a rebuttal after the second round
comes to an end. In the rebuttal, the authors will be asked to respond to
the questions raised by the reviewers. The reviewers will then read the
response and use that as part of their discussions on the paper. To lower
the amount of effort for both the authors and reviewers, MobiSys limits the
rebuttal to 500 words.
Important Dates
*(New) This year, MobiSys will not have a registration deadline. *
Paper Submission December 9, 2022 AoE
Early Rejection Notification January 18, 2023
Rebuttal Period February 13-16, 2023

Betreff: [TCCC-ANNOUNCE] Call for Papers: CNERT 2023 - an IEEE INFOCOM Workshop
[Apologies for cross postings]
The 10th International Workshop on Computer and Networking Experimental Research using Testbeds (CNERT) - an INFOCOM 2023 Workshop
(INFOCOM 2023 will run as a hybrid conference, but all its workshops will be virtual)
Experimentation has played an important role in advancing research in computing and networking. Although theory and simulation are important tools for studying and analyzing the behavior of new protocols and algorithms, it is essential that new research ideas be validated on real systems, testbeds, and infrastructure that provides a platform for exploring new systems.
This workshop brings together researchers and technical experts to share experiences and advance the state-of-the-art in experimental research in areas such as networking, distributed systems, and cloud computing. It aims to inspire researchers to use testbeds in novel and interesting ways as a means to validate research ideas. Of particular interest are experiments on publicly available testbeds such as the CENI, Chameleon, CloudLab, DeterLab, Emulab, FABRIC, the Fed4FIRE+ and SLICES testbeds, FIT, OneLab, ORBIT, the PAWR project testbeds (AERPAW, ARA, COSMOS, POWDER-RENEW), among many others worldwide.
Paper Submissions: For CNERT 2023 we solicit:
● 6-page research papers. All research papers are encouraged to participate in the demo session. One additional page is permitted in the initial submission to provide a demo proposal associated with the paper (detailed below).
● 2-page extended abstracts, plus a 1-page demo proposal (detailed below).
We solicit papers and demo proposals with experimental results from testbeds from areas including, but not limited to:
● Wireless network experimentation (including low-power wireless, Internet-of-Things and sensor networks, aerial drone networks, 5G, mmWave, RFID and backscattering networks)
● Wired network experimentation (including optical networks)
● Distributed systems
● Cloud computing and big data
● Edge computing
● Computer and network security
● Virtualization of radios and networks with advanced orchestration and management software
● Software defined networking (SDN)
● Future internet architectures (FIA)
● Next generation internet (NGI)
● Network economics and pricing
● Financial networks and algorithmic trading
● All state-of-the-art application topics are welcome with special emphasis on the above topics in networking and computing
Experiments may focus on challenges including, but not limited to:
● Instrumentation and measurement
● Large-scale experiments
● Evaluation and analysis of experimental data
● Creation and sharing of datasets of broad interest to the community
● Experiment design and deployment
● Designs for repeatability and reproducibility
● Tools and services for testbed users and operators
● Experiments on federated testbeds
● Testbed implementation and deployment
Demo Proposals: The CNERT workshop has a strong experimental component. For consideration in the demo session, authors should provide additional information in a 1-page appendix:
● A summary describing the demonstration.
● The data sets used (if any) and expected results.
● The testbed used for the demo.
Reproducibility: To foster reproducibility in the area of computer and networking research, authors can provide, in a 1-page appendix, clearly defined artifacts not previously available, including traces, original data, source code, or tools developed as part of the submitted work. We strongly recommend participation in this aspect of the workshop. However, this is not a requirement to publish the work.
The CNERT 2023 Reproducibility Committee is responsible to award accepted papers badges, based on the ACM Artifact Review and Badging system. For papers to be eligible for badging, the authors (1) must opt-in to badging before the paper submission deadline, and (2) include a 1-page appendix in the submission that clearly describes the artifacts and provide pointers to the code and other artifacts.
Best Paper and Best Demo Awards, and Badges:
In addition to a best paper and best demo award, if applicable, CNERT will present badges to papers that exemplify the principles of experiment repeatability and reproducibility on real systems with running code.
Deadlines:
