*Scope:*
Smart computing has a big role to play in the development of the smart
cities. The advanced networking paradigms such as programmable and virtual
networks, growth in communication technologies like 5G, and use of advanced
computing infrastructure such as fog/edge/cloud computing can all
contribute to the applications related to smart cities. With the
penetration of Internet of things (IoT) devices in smart city applications,
smart computing has become all the more relevant in terms of managing and
processing the data. The applications in smart cities can be
computing-intensive, network-intensive, disk-intensive, data-intensive etc.
which requires different solution sets in order to effectively solve the
issues pertaining to these applications. The computing and communication
aspects in smart computing are of great relevance in the wider domain of
smart cities which consists of smart metering, smart homes, smart building,
smart industries, connected vehicles, and tackles various problems ranging
from data reporting to providing smart services.
Hence, the aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers working in
the broad area of smart cities using smart computing. The focus of the
workshop will be on theoretical and experimental components of
communication, networking and system-oriented techniques that tackle
challenges in smart cities using smart computing. Therefore, in this
workshop, the researchers working on emerging problems in different sectors
of the smart cities can share their latest results, gather new problems
from communication, networking and data analytics perspectives.
The workshop will be held in conjunction with the 24th International
Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (IEEE
WoWMoM) - Core Rank A - during 12 - 15 June, 2023 in Boston, USA. All
accepted workshop papers will be included and indexed in the IEEE Digital
Library (IEEE Xplore), showing their affiliation with IEEE WoWMoM.
*Topics include (but not limited to):*
- Data analytics in smart cities
- Resource management using smart computing for smart cities

*DCOSS-IoT 2023 (former DCOSS) - 19th Annual International Conference on
Distributed Computing in Smart Systems and the Internet of Things - 1st
Call for Papers*
The 19th Annual International Conference on Distributed Computing in Smart
Systems and the Internet of Things (DCOSS-IoT 2023)
Coral Bay, Pafos, Cyprus -- June 19-21, 2023
* The DCOSS-IoT series of events are always technically co-sponsored by
IEEE, and Proceedings are published by IEEE Xplore. Αpproval for this year
pending.
The 19th International Conference on Distributed Computing in Smart Systems
and the Internet of Things (DCOSS-IoT 2023 ) will be held in Cyprus in June
2023. The conference is always co-sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society
and by the IEEE Technical Committee on Parallel Processing (TCPP).
The conference was previously known as DCOSS. Starting in 2023, the event
is broadening its scope beyond sensor networks to include smart systems in
general and the Internet of Things (IoT). The updated name is “Distributed
Computing in Smart Systems and the Internet of Things” (DCOSS-IoT).
In the last few years, we have witnessed significant growth in the use of
IoT and distributed sensor systems in several application areas, including
smart transportation, smart energy systems, smart homes and buildings,
smart healthcare, and environmental monitoring. For smart sensor systems
to truly become useful and pervasive, we need to address several research
challenges, including the tight integration of sensing and machine
intelligence, reliable and efficient networking, interoperability and
scalability, the need for dependable autonomy, interaction with humans, and
important aspects of security, privacy and trust. DCOSS-IoT focuses on
issues arising in the entire IoT and networked sensor systems stack,
covering aspects of high-level abstractions, models and languages,
communication technologies, novel algorithms and applications, system
design approaches and architectures, and tools for simulated and real
deployments. Potential authors are invited to submit original, unpublished
manuscripts demonstrating recent advances in theoretical and experimental
research.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Artificial Intelligence for IoT
- Machine learning and data mining for IoT and Smart Systems
- Smart healthcare to combat epidemics (including COVID-19)
- Edge and fog computing: distributed computing models from sensor to cloud
- Machine intelligence in distributed sensor systems and real-time analytics
- Novel communication paradigms (e.g., 5G/6G, VLC, DSA) for IoT and Smart
Systems
- Cyber-Physical Systems

- Green and environmentally friendly IoT (low-power, harvesting, energy
management)
- Design and implementation of real-world applications and systems
- Approaches, tools, and experience of deployment and operation
- Interdisciplinary applications of IoT and Smart Systems
— Smart healthcare and digital epidemiology
— Smart agriculture
— Smart infrastructures
— Smart cities
— Smart energy, transportation, and water distribution systems
— Smart factories
— Smart workspace
Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished manuscripts
demonstrating current research on distributed smart systems and IoT related
to the aforementioned topics of interest. Please use the US letter size
(8.5 X 11 in) standard IEEE conference LaTeX format or Microsoft Word
template available on:
http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html
<http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html>.
All submissions should be written in English and have a maximum of eight
(8) printed pages, including figures and references. Starting this year,
DCOSS-IoT will follow a double-blind review process. As a result, authors
must make a good faith effort to anonymize their submissions. Although
submission is double-blind, the existence or availability of non-anonymous
preprints (on arXiv or other preprint servers) will not lead to your paper
being rejected. Reviewers will be instructed not to look for such preprints
actively, but encountering them will not constitute a conflict of interest.
Papers that do not meet the size, formatting, and anonymization
requirements will not be reviewed. We require each paper to be in Adobe
Portable Document Format (PDF) and submitted through the HotCRP submission
system.
*** Special Issue and Best Paper Awards ***
DCOSS-IoT 2023 will announce a best paper award and a best poster/demo award.
Extended versions of the selected best papers from DCOSS-IoT 2023 will be

Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) pose significant security, trust
and privacy challenges
due to the large amount of sensitive data they collect, store and transmit.
The vehicles themselves
can be targets for various types of cyber attacks, which can lead to theft,
physical harm or manipulation
of many critical functions that they provide. Additionally, the connected
nature of CAVs means that data
collected from the vehicles can be vulnerable to breaches, as well as data
sharing with other entities such
as manufacturers, service providers and governments.
In terms of privacy, CAVs collect and store vast amounts of personal
information such as driving patterns,
location data and vehicle usage information. This information is sensitive
and valuable, and if it falls into
the wrong hands, it can be used for malicious purposes such as identity
theft, targeted advertising or even
physical harm. Additionally, privacy concerns are also raised with the
sharing of data between CAVs and
other entities, as well as the potential use of CAVs for government
surveillance.
Furthermore, with rapid adoption of emerging technologies in CAVs,
including but not limited to advanced
sensing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, blockchain, etc.,
CAV network becomes more open,
meanwhile also more vulnerable to new security, trust and privacy challenges.
To address these challenges, it is important to develop better security,
trust and privacy approaches for CAVs,
so as to secure CAVs and protect user data. In this workshop, we aim at
attracting innovative research ideas
from both academia and industry, and fostering discussions that could help
better shape the future directions
of security and privacy for CAVs.
The main research topics of interest include, but not limited to:
* Secure communication protocols and encryption methods to protect
sensitive data transmitted between
CAVs and other entities
* Secure systems to protect against hacking, tampering and other malicious
attacks on CAVs
* Establishment and management of trust between CAVs and other entities in
the network
* Novel methods to protect sensitive information such as driving patterns,
location data and vehicle usage
information from unauthorized access and disclosure
* Authentication and authorization mechanisms to control access to CAV
systems and data
* Malware detection and mitigation methods for CAVs
* Privacy-enhancing technologies to protect sensitive information in CAV
systems, such as differential privacy,
homomorphic encryption and secure multiparty computation
* Blockchain facilitated security solutions for CAVs
* Novel security architectures for CAVs
* Hardware supported solutions for security, privacy, and trust in CAVs
* Investigation of attacks towards CAVs
* Application level security in CAVs
* Security, privacy, and trust related safety issues

Authors can keep their names on their submitted paper, i.e., *SUBMISSIONS
ARE NOT REQUIRED TO BE DOUBLE BLIND*. Authors can also prepare technical
reports that are made available on their own websites and on purely
archiving organizations such as arXiv.org. However, all submissions must
comply with the *dual submission policy*
<https://www.sigmobile.org/mobihoc/2023/submission.html#dual-submission-poli…>.
*Each paper has a chance to submit a one-page rebuttal for the reviews*.
All submitted papers will be considered for a Best Paper Award. A selected
set of papers will be chosen for fast-tracked publication in IEEE/ACM
Transactions on Networking. Papers are expected to be direct and specific
about their results, contributions, and context.
