IEEE WONS 2023
18th IEEE Wireless On-demand Network systems and Services Conference
30th January - 1st February 2023, Madonna di Campiglio, Italy
http://2023.wons-conference.org/#<http://2023.wons-conference.org/>
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wireless on-demand network systems and services have become mainstream
technology, one that keeps shaping the networked world of the future.
Different types of wireless LANs, both sub-6 GHz and in higher frequency
bands, as well as such established technologies as Bluetooth LE,
LTE-Direct, NFC, and optical links are the cornerstone of networking
paradigms including NextG cellular, mesh and sensor networks, cloud
networks, vehicular networks, non-terrestrial networks and in-body networks.
The challenges of this exciting research field are numerous. These include
providing robust services in highly dynamic and extreme environments, how
to minimize energy demands or zero out battery usage in favor of renewable
energy sources, how to smartly blend multiple wireless technologies
available to a network node (including across radically different bands),
and how to make wireless on-demand networks and services self-configurable,
adaptive, self-organizing, and self-healing in a wealth of different
context, each exhibiting its own peculiar constraints.
IFIP WONS, now at its eighteenth edition, has established itself as a high
quality forum to address the above and related challenges. WONS 2023 aims
at continuing to provide a global platform for rich interactions between
experts in their fields, discussing innovative contributions in a
stimulating environment.
This announcement solicits original contributions of high-quality research
providing novel insights on all aspects of wireless on-demand networks and
systems. Topics of interest comprise, but are not limited to:
5G and 6G networks
Cloud/edge/fog computing and networking
Cognitive radio networks
Cross-layer design
Data analytics and ML/AI-driven network systems
Heterogeneous wireless networks
Joint communications, networking, and sensing

Aims and Scope
Recently, the rapid development of Unmanned Vehicles (UVs) such as Unmanned
Ground Vehicles (UGVs) (i.e., robots) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)
(i.e., drones), has highlighted a myriad of new emergent applications such
as infrastructure inspection and surveillance, smart agriculture,
monitoring, search and rescue, parcel delivery, communications, and
post-disaster recovery, just to mention a few. In all these novel
applications, ground and aerial vehicles may jointly work together, and
also coexist with ground Internet of Things (IoT) devices. For instance,
multiple UGVs can perform particular tasks relying on the IoT sensors’
perceived data, while a swarm of UAVs can assist the UGVs relaying the
collected data by the UGVs to the base station, in order to infer opportune
decisions and take actions. Therefore, efficient data collection and
networking algorithms should be devised for.
For this workshop, we are looking for papers that combine the design of
novel algorithms and testbed implementations to develop the theoretical
foundations for UVs as well as the synergies with IoT devices. The numerous
emergent applications raised by IoT may require an interdisciplinary
approach, involving techniques from algorithm foundations and different
areas, such as computer networks, artificial intelligence, concurrent,
parallel and distributed computing, networking, security, digital signal,
image and sound processing.
Topics of Interest
- 5G and 6G applications with UVs
- Autonomous sensing via UVs
- Topology monitoring with UVs
- Remote sensing networks via UVs
- Communication protocols of UVs
- Modeling and analysis of UVs
- Precision agriculture and UVs
- UVs for environmental monitoring
- UVs path planning and scheduling
- Parcel delivery using UVs
- Constrained and multi-objectives problems
- Sensors localization with UVs
- UVs tracking techniques
- Cooperative control of multiple UVs
- Cyber-security communications and UVs
- Optimal UV deployment strategies
- Test-beds and experimental results for UVs
- Single- and Multi-UV applications
- Energy-efficient UV communications
- Machine learning for UV communications

CALL FOR PAPERS
https://www.journals.elsevier.com/computer-networks/call-for-papers/special…
A timely analysis of data coming from the IoT infrastructure is crucial to
usefully transform it into knowledge that can add value to the application
domain. This result can be obtained with a transition from a centralized,
cloud-based architecture to an interoperable and decentralized dynamic
architecture. This transition will allow achieving highly efficient and
responsive services by locating the data processing close to the data
source, in the edge. Moreover, edge computing allows bringing AI-based IoT
solutions in areas where connectivity is scarce and where in general
resources are limited, for example in rural or remote areas. Consider, for
example, the so-called TinyML solutions, a fast-growing field of machine
learning technologies capable of performing on-device data analytics at
extremely low power, typically in the mW range. In this special issue, we
are interested in solutions based on the Publish/subscribe messaging
systems to facilitate the move of IoT towards an interoperable and
decentralized dynamic architecture, ensuring the easy-to-use and high
availability of current infrastructures, as well as what additional
benefits this new paradigm can bring to IoT. Some of the topics of interest
are:
o Routing, forwarding, and caching for decentralized pub/sub systems
o Pub/sub solutions supporting mobile or constrained environments
o Pub/sub platforms for IoT/Edge systems allowing specification of
computations on data and orchestration
o Pub/sub solutions for integrating big data platforms and machine learning
frameworks
o Pub/sub systems management for IoT/Edge systems, e.g., monitoring and
fault diagnosis
o Pub/Sub middleware for IoT/Edge systems
o Pub/Sub solutions for data analytics in IoT
o Experiences with application of pub/sub systems in various domains
o Measurement and analysis of pub/sub based IoT/Edge systems applications
and infrastructure
o Implementation challenges and experiences: routing scalability,
congestion control, network management at scale, zeroconf bootstrapping and
operation
o Approaches to coexistence/evolution of pub/sub and REST-like solutions

******************************************************************
The IEEE Pervasive Computing and Communication (PerCom) conference is one of the premier scholarly venues in the areas of pervasive computing and communications. The PerCom Demo session provides a venue for the latest breakthroughs in pervasive computing to be presented live to the research community. Demos ranging from examples of working prototypes, novel applications, groundbreaking ideas, and live experiments related to PerCom are all welcome. In particular, we encourage demos from industrial researchers who are leading the way in pushing pervasive technology into the hands of the public.
A "Best Demo Award" will be presented based on research value, originality, and presentation.
Areas of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Anticipatory computing
- Big (Sensor) data

******************************************************************
Prospective contributors are expected to submit a demo proposal in the form of a short technical paper (no more than 3 pages) using the IEEE templates (https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html). The short paper must illustrate the research contribution of the demo, the practical setup, and the technical requirements. Short demo papers will be included in the PerCom proceedings.
All demo proposals must be registered and submitted through the EDAS submission site: https://edas.info/N30095
The demo proposals will be peer-reviewed. The evaluation criteria include (1) extent and significance of a prototype conveying new research ideas or compelling novel applications; (2) relevance to PerCom; (3) potential impact on the audience; (4) quality and feasibility of the proposed implementation; (5) presentation quality.
At least one author of each accepted demo proposal is required to register and present their demo at the conference.
