Call for Papers
*Important Dates*
Paper registration in EDAS: September 26, 2022
Submission via EDAS: TBA
IEEE PerCom, now in its 21st year, will be held in Atlanta, Georgia (USA),
during March 13-17, 2023, as a physical event, with a provision for remote
participation. PerCom is the premier annual scholarly venue in pervasive
computing and communications. Pervasive computing is constantly at the
forefront of mobile systems research, and has found its way into many
commercial systems due to tremendous advances in a broad spectrum of
technologies and topics such as wireless networking, mobile and distributed
computing, sensor systems, ambient intelligence, and smart devices.
SCOPE
PerCom 2023 solicits research contributions in all areas pertinent to
pervasive computing and communications, especially those that cross
traditional research boundaries. In particular, we target:
Advances in pervasive systems and infrastructures: middleware systems and
services; data engineering for pervasive computing; cloud, fog and edge
computing; integrations of smartphones in pervasive experiences;
applications of device-to-device coordination.
Theories, models, and algorithms: context modeling and reasoning; adaptive
computing; activity and emotion recognition; programming paradigms; applied
machine learning; deep machine learning; federated learning; causal
learning; cognitive computing; complex networks; spatio-temporal modeling
techniques.
Domain-specific challenges and novel applications: urban/mobile
crowdsensing & intelligence; PerCom for healthcare and well-being;
cyber-physical PerCom; smart homes and virtual assistants; mixed reality;
sports analytics; crime prevention; pervasive nowcasting; urban robotics;
pervasive AR/VR; smart vehicles; disaster sensing and management.
Intersections of PerCom with: opportunistic networks; IoT and sensor
systems; RFID systems; pervasive data science, cyber physical systems, 3D
networks.
New techniques for user-level concerns: participatory and social sensing;
trust, security, privacy, and ethics; user interface, interaction, and
persuasion; online and offline social networking and pervasive computing.
Technological innovations: architectures, protocols, and technologies for
pervasive communications; energy-harvesting, self-powered, or battery-less
systems; mobile and wearable systems; smart devices and environments;
positioning, navigation, timing, and tracking technologies; device-free
human sensing.
Contributions can be analytical, empirical, technological, methodological,
or a combination. Papers reporting strong systems engineering contributions
backed by solid and appropriate evaluations are strongly encouraged. The
impact of the contributions should be demonstrated in the context of
pervasive computing and communications applications.
SUBMISSION DETAILS
TBA.
BEST PAPER AWARD AND EDITORIAL FOLLOW-UPS

Aims and Scope
Recently, the rapid development of Unmanned Vehicles (UVs) such as Unmanned
Ground Vehicles (UGVs) (i.e., robots) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)
(i.e., drones), has highlighted a myriad of new emergent applications such
as infrastructure inspection and surveillance, smart agriculture,
monitoring, search and rescue, parcel delivery, communications, and
post-disaster recovery, just to mention a few. In all these novel
applications, ground and aerial vehicles may jointly work together, and
also coexist with ground Internet of Things (IoT) devices. For instance,
multiple UGVs can perform particular tasks relying on the IoT sensors’
perceived data, while a swarm of UAVs can assist the UGVs relaying the
collected data by the UGVs to the base station, in order to infer opportune
decisions and take actions. Therefore, efficient data collection and
networking algorithms should be devised for.
For this workshop, we are looking for papers that combine the design of
novel algorithms and testbed implementations to develop the theoretical
foundations for UVs as well as the synergies with IoT devices. The numerous
emergent applications raised by IoT may require an interdisciplinary
approach, involving techniques from algorithm foundations and different
areas, such as computer networks, artificial intelligence, concurrent,
parallel and distributed computing, networking, security, digital signal,
image and sound processing.

CALL FOR TECHNICAL PAPERS
===========================
Recent advances in the field of telecommunications and electronics have led
to the proliferation of autonomous robots in numerous novel application
fields, from emergency situations to military applications, from
infrastructure inspection to ambient monitoring services, where the
utilization of multiple robots is essential in order to accomplish the
desired task. Recent works have demonstrated the challenges of *coordinating
multiple robots* in order to deploy robot networks with self-configuration
and self-healing capabilities to guarantee service continuity, also in case
of failures.
Starting from the unique requirements of a multi robot system, *Swarm
Robotics* is a complex approach that requires an understanding of how to
define distributed systems to define self-organization behaviors. Swarm
Robotics studies how to make robots collaborate and collectively solve a
task where every robot contributes to the general task sharing the same
higher-level objectives. To this end, *communication wireless networks*
must be specifically designed in order to support the cooperation and
collaboration inside the swarm.

IEEE IoT Magazine - Special Issue on Pervasive, Efficient and Smart Signal
Processing for IoT
https://www.comsoc.org/publications/magazines/ieee-internet-things-magazine…
The Internet of Things (IoT) lies at the core of the unprecedented
connected era we are currently speeding towards. Both Academia and the
Industry strive to push the limits of technology fueled by vertical
applications such as: factory 4.0, eHealth, human-centric and tactile IoT,
wearable IoT, smart city/building, digital twin, etc., which will shape our
future society. Signal Processing (SP) plays a significant role in
expanding the number of IoT technologies and capitalizing on their
applications. In this context, the unique challenges from the SP point of
view are: (i) system design taking into account the applications’ practical
limitations and requirements, (ii) gather collective intelligence from
heterogeneous and inexpensive IoT sensors/devices (e.g. to perform an
inference task in decentralized fashion) (iii) minimize device cost and
energy consumption while allowing perpetual monitoring/sensing (iv) grant
adaptivity to cope with device mobility use cases, (v) leverage
fine-grained “programming” of wireless environments to cope with massive
IoT scenarios. These challenges give rise to the need for developing
pervasive, inexpensive, fast, and low-power algorithms (including those
performing learning & data fusion), as well as novel theoretical tools,
evaluation benchmarks, and methodologies to characterize the performance of
the proposed algorithms.
The main goal of this Special Issue is to address these challenges and
present advanced and innovative SP tools and algorithms for IoT systems.
Contributions addressing both theoretical and practical applications
including, but not limited to the following topics, are welcome for
submission:
- efficient SP for data collection from IoT devices (compressed sensing
techniques, censoring, quantization, mixed-resolution sensors, etc.)
- SP techniques enabling dense and/or interfering multiple-access in IoT
- distributed inference and data fusion for IoT (estimation, detection,
classification, multimodal methods, etc.)
- theoretical analysis and performance bounds for IoT systems (MSE lower
bounds, CRLB, uncertainty quantification, etc.)
- intelligent processing for green IoT (low-complexity resource
optimization, edge-cloud architectures, coarse-quantization transceivers
for IoT, green AI, etc.)
- machine learning for IoT data processing (federated, graph-based,
distributed, etc.)
- SP programming the IoT wireless environment (ambient backscattering,
energy-harvesting, wireless power transfer, reconfigurable intelligent
surfaces, etc.)
- IoT-based integrated sensing and communications, localization
- SP-enabled vertical applications for IoT (factory 4.0, smart cities,
digital twin, etc.)
*Submission Guidelines*
All submissions are peer reviewed to ensure that only the highest-quality
original articles are published. Submitted articles should strive to make
their contribution understandable by the general IoT practitioner and must
comply with the specifications detailed in the Submission Guidelines. In
particular, articles should not exceed 4500 words (excluding figures,
tables, captions, abstract and references), figures and tables should be
limited to a combined total of six, mathematical equations should not be
used (a maximum of three simple equations may be allowed only in justified
cases and upon agreement from the co-Lead GEs), a limit of 15 archival
references is recommended (beyond which permission from the EiC is
required), etc.
The articles must be submitted through Manuscript Central. Given that the
type of article for this SI is December 2022/Pervasive, Efficient and Smart
Signal Processing for IoT go to Manuscript Central, register or log in, and
go to the Author Center. Follow the instructions there.

Elsevier Computer Networks journal - Special Issue on Pub/sub solutions for
interoperable and dynamic IoT systems
CALL FOR PAPERS
A timely analysis of data coming from the IoT infrastructure is crucial to
usefully transform it into knowledge that can add value to the application
domain. This result can be obtained with a transition from a centralized,
cloud-based architecture to an interoperable and decentralized dynamic
architecture. This transition will allow achieving highly efficient and
responsive services by locating the data processing close to the data
source, in the edge. Moreover, edge computing allows bringing AI-based IoT
solutions in areas where connectivity is scarce and where in general
resources are limited, for example in rural or remote areas. Consider, for
example, the so-called TinyML solutions, a fast-growing field of machine
learning technologies capable of performing on-device data analytics at
extremely low power, typically in the mW range. In this special issue, we
are interested in solutions based on the Publish/subscribe messaging
systems to facilitate the move of IoT towards an interoperable and
decentralized dynamic architecture, ensuring the easy-to-use and high
availability of current infrastructures, as well as what additional
benefits this new paradigm can bring to IoT. Some of the topics of interest
are:
o Routing, forwarding, and caching for decentralized pub/sub systems
o Pub/sub solutions supporting mobile or constrained environments
o Pub/sub platforms for IoT/Edge systems allowing specification of
computations on data and orchestration
o Pub/sub solutions for integrating big data platforms and machine learning
frameworks
o Pub/sub systems management for IoT/Edge systems, e.g., monitoring and
fault diagnosis
o Pub/Sub middleware for IoT/Edge systems
o Pub/Sub solutions for data analytics in IoT
o Experiences with application of pub/sub systems in various domains
o Measurement and analysis of pub/sub based IoT/Edge systems applications
and infrastructure
o Implementation challenges and experiences: routing scalability,
congestion control, network management at scale, zeroconf bootstrapping and
operation
o Approaches to coexistence/evolution of pub/sub and REST-like solutions

Dear colleagues,
[We apologize if you receive multiple copies of this email.]
The IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (CCNC),
sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society, is a major annual
international conference. Taking advantage of its co-location with the
International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which is the world's largest
tradeshow on consumer technology, CCNC is organized with the objective of
bringing together researchers, developers, and practitioners from academia
and industry working in all areas of consumer communications and networking
technologies. CCNC 2023 will feature high-quality keynotes, plenary talks,
technical and industry papers, panels, tutorials, and demonstrations. In
addition, the CCNC 2023 Organization Committee invites members of the
research, development, and practitioner communities to submit Workshop and
Special Session proposals. Workshops provide a forum for people to discuss
areas of special interest with like-minded researchers and practitioners.
Special Sessions complement the main program with new or emerging topics
that are of particular interest to the consumer communications and
networking community and may also cut across and beyond disciplines
traditionally represented at CCNC. Research contributions are welcome in
all areas pertinent to consumer communications and networking, including:
- Edge/Cloud Computing and Networking
- Networking Solutions for Social Applications, Multimedia, and Games
- Next Generation Wireless Protocols: MAC and Above
- Wireless Communications: Fundamentals and PHY
- Beyond 5G and Towards 6G
- IoT: From Sensors to Vertical Applications
- Security, Privacy, and Content Protection
- Wearable Computing Systems: Devices, Applications, and Analytics
- Communications and Applications for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles
on Land, Water, and Sky
- AI/ML for Communications and Networking
Prospective authors are invited to submit high-quality original technical
papers to the appropriate track(s) listed below. All accepted technical
papers are required to be presented at the conference and will be published
in the IEEE CCNC 2023 Conference Proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore®
as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases. In addition,
authors that have a demonstration component in their work are highly
encouraged to also submit proposals to the Demonstration Session as soon as
the call opens.
