3rd International Workshop on Real-life modeling in 5G/6G networks and
beyond -- REFRESH 2022
https://refresh2022.github.io/#/
Co-located with IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing in
Sensor Systems (DCOSS 2022)
https://dcoss.org/
Marina Del Rey, LA, California
May 30 to June 1, 2022
Scope and Overview
The economic and societal potential of emerging 5G/6G and cyber-physical
social systems is vastly greater than what has been realized so far, and
major investments are being made worldwide to develop the corresponding
science and technology. The Future Internet paradigm, the proliferation of
emerging networks and architectures, wireless access technologies and
multi-homing smart devices are evolving towards a competitive environment,
where users and devices have access to various resources, while their
behaviors become strongly interdependent. This fact demands and motivates
the development of user-centric resource management and optimization
frameworks, which enable user's self-optimization and autonomy. This vision
is further motivated and supported by the convergence of various emerging
technologies enabling Cyber-Physical Systems operation, including 5G/B5G/6G
technologies, Internet of Things (IoT), Mobile Edge Computing and Software
Defined Networking, all targeting flexibility and efficiency. To deal with
the involved complexity, and driven by the requirements of autonomy and
scalability, distributed resource orchestration approaches appear as a
necessity rather than a desire.
The REFRESH Workshop aims at to stimulate research on the most novel topics
of real-life modeling in 5G/6G networks and beyond. This year's edition
encourages submission of theoretical and experimental work (including
studies of real deployment), with a primary interest in new directions of
wireless networking in concrete application scenarios and demonstrators in
areas such as, but not limited to: mobile edge computing, Internet of
Things, cyber-physical systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, public safety
networks, dynamic spectrum utilization, smart grid communications, wireless
power communication, green wireless networks, information-centric wireless
networks. The workshop seeks original work presented in the form of
research papers describing new research and development approaches and
results, as well as work-in-progress papers. Highly disruptive
work-in-progress and position papers are also welcome, provided they focus
on particularly innovative solutions or applications for 5G/6G networks and
beyond. All papers shall be forward-looking, describe their relationship to
existing work, and shall argue their impact and implications for ongoing or

ACM SIGCOMM 2022 Workshop on Networked Sensing Systems for a Sustainable
Society (NET4us 2022)
Call for Papers
Sustainable environmental sensing systems, as the converging point of
several technologies, can have tremendous potential to deliver social
value. Multiple industries are progressively investing in environmental
sustainability initiatives and technologies to improve quality of life

Different challenges need to be addressed, from designing "better" sensing
objects, i.e., energy-efficient, low power, and able to communicate via
wide-area networks, to turning to the general public for deploying such
systems and crowdsourcing data using social sensing or citizen science.
With the "Networked sensing systems for a sustainable society" (NET4us)
workshop, we aim to present and showcase the latest advances in sustainable
networked sensing systems to monitor different urban and rural conditions

Aims and Scope
Recently, the rapid development of Unmanned Autonomous Vehicles (UAVs),
also known as drones, has highlighted a plethora of emergent applications
such as infrastructure inspection and surveillance, smart agriculture, seek
and rescue, parcel delivery, communications, and post-disaster recovery. In

relaying the collected data by the sensors. Moreover, single or multiple
UAVs can cooperatively collaborate providing services that require
efficient protocols where multiple objectives and constraints should be
accounted for.
For this workshop, we seek papers that combine the design of algorithms and
testbed implementations to develop the theoretical foundations for UAVs as
well as the synergies with IoT devices. The numerous emergent applications

*Scope and Motivation*The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a
promising technology to revolutionize the way we live and interact with the
surrounding environment. IoT produces and communicates massive amounts of
data that need to be filtered, analyzed, and processed. In industrial
environments (i.e., Industry 4.0 and 5.0) as well as in smart cities,
communication
between connected devices requires high reliability, low latency, and
sufficient scalability. Several technologies such as BLE, Zigbee, Wireless
HART, IEEE Std 802.15.4 TSCH, 6TiSCH, LPWAN (LoRa, Sigfox, NB-IoT, LTE-M,
etc.), and RAW have been proposed to tackle these communication
requirements. The 5G network provides not only increased data rates but
also ultra-low data latency communication for critical IoT applications
that require extreme reliability. 5G enables Machine Type Communication
(MTC), which is used by mobile network operators, equipment vendors,
MTCspecialist companies, and research bodies. The high-traffic demand,
low-latency, and deterministic delivery requirements stemming from IoT and
machine-to-machine (M2M) communications can be met only with radical
changes to current communication and networking architectures. Recently,
Fog and Edge computing has been proposed to mitigate the heavy burden
on the network
due to the centralized processing and storing of the massive IoT data.
Fog/Edge-enabled IoT architectures ensure closer processing in proximity to
the things, which results in small, deterministic latency that enables
real-time applications and enforced security.
