Subject: [CfP] Fachgespräch Energiebewusste Systeme und Methoden
Date: Thu, 24 Mar 2005 09:01:55 +0100
From: Falko Dressler <dressler(a)INFORMATIK.UNI-ERLANGEN.DE>
Reply-To: Mailing List der GI FG 3.3.1 "Kommunikation und Verteilte
Systeme" <KUVS-L(a)LISTSERV.UNI-HEIDELBERG.DE>
Organization: University of Erlangen-Nuremberg
To: KUVS-L(a)LISTSERV.UNI-HEIDELBERG.DE
GI/ITG KuVS Fachgespräch "Energiebewußte Systeme und Methoden"
==============================================================
1. Juli 2005, Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg
Aufruf zur Einreichung von Beiträgen
------------------------------------
minimieren. Neue Kommunikationsparadigmen helfen in hochmobilen Netzen
Weitere
Informationen werden unter
http://www7.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/~dressler/fg-energie/ bereitgestellt.

Subject: [Tccc] SIGCOMM workshops: Deadlines approaching
Date: Tue, 22 Mar 2005 10:49:26 -0500 (EST)
From: Saswati Sarkar <swati(a)seas.upenn.edu>
To: tccc(a)cs.columbia.edu
SIGCOMM Workshops, August 22-26, 2005, Philadelphia, USA
This year, SIGCOMM 2005 continues its expanded scope with significant
emphasis on workshops. We solicit papers and participation for
the following one-day workshops, that will be held in conjunction
with SIGCOMM 2005 from August 22 - August 26, 2005
in Philadelphia, PA, US.
For a detailed description of the workshops and submission guidelines,
visit: http://www.acm.org/sigcomm/sigcomm2005/workshops.html
1. Workshop on mining network data (MineNet-05)
Todays IP networks are extensively instrumented for collecting a wealth
of information including traffic traces (e.g., packet or flow level
traces), control (e.g., router forwarding tables, BGP and OSPF updates),
and management (e.g., alarms, SNMP traps) data. The real challenge is
to process and analyze this vast amount of primarily unstructured
information and extract structures, relationships, and higher level
knowledge embedded in it and use it to aid network management and
operations. The goal of this one day workshop is to explore new
directions in network data collection, storage, and analysis techniques,
and their application to network monitoring, management, and
remediation. The workshop will provide a venue for researchers and
practitioners from different backgrounds, including networking, data
mining, machine learning, and statistics, to get together and
collaboratively approach this problem from their respective vantage
points.
Deadline: April 6, 2005
2. Workshop on experimental approaches to wireless network design and
analysis (E-WIND-05)
Research in wireless networking is rapidly becoming more experimental.
Research prototypes are being developed for systems ranging from
large-scale sensor networks to high-speed wireless access networks.
Moreover experimentation and measurement studies are being performed
with off-the-shelf hardware and operational testbeds. The goal of this
workshop is to bring together experimentalist researchers from diverse
backgrounds including wireless hardware platforms, wireless
communications, wireless testbeds, and measurement
of deployed wireless systems. The workshop will provide a forum for
exchange of ideas, challenges, and work-in-progress discussions between
both the wireless and wireline measurement communities. The workshop
will leave a large space to discussion and possible coordination.
Deadline: April 15, 2005
3. Workshop on delay tolerant networking and related networks (WDTN-05)
Today, the most successful network architecture is that of the Internet.
It has scaled well beyond the original plan of its designers, and the
Internet Protocol has been carried on a great number of underlying
protocols, including itself. However, the Internet's protocol
architecture suffers some problems when implemented on classes of
networks for which it was not originally designed. For example, when
disconnection and reconnection is common, or link performance is highly
variable or extreme, one or more of the traditional Internet protocols
do not work well. In this workshop, we wish to explore physical networks
that operate significantly differently from wired, connected networks
and the protocol architectures and algorithms used to deal with such
situations. Techniques for making applications tolerant to disruptions
and/or high delays are also requested.
Deadline: March 30, 2005
4. Workshop on economics of peer-to-peer systems (P2PECON-05)
From file-sharing to distributed computation, from application layer
overlays to mobile ad hoc networking, the ultimate success of a
peer-to-peer system rests on the twin pillars of scalable and robust
system design and alignment of economic interests among the
participating peers. Following the success of the first two workshops,
the Third Workshop on Economics of Peer-to-Peer Systems will again bring
together researchers and practitioners from multiple disciplines to
discuss the economic characteristics of P2P systems, application of
economic theories to P2P system design, and future directions and
challenges in this area.
Deadline: April 1, 2005
We apologize for multiple copies you may receive.

of Networks

Please apologize multiple copies
Call for Papers
ACM DIN 2005
First International ACM* Workshop on Dynamic Interconnection of Networks
_http://www.docomoeurolabs.de/mobicom-2005-din-ws.html_,
(In Conjunction with ACM MOBICOM'2005)
September 2, 2005
Cologne, Germany
Scope: A salient feature of future mobile networks will be support for
flexible, dynamic inter-connection of networks. New kinds of mobile
networks, such as Personal Area Networks (PANs), Body Area Networks
(BANs), inter-vehicle networks, and sensor networks, arise and have to
interconnect among themselves and with existing infrastructure. Such
networks will integrate heterogeneous technologies, and their topologies
are dynamic. Currently, inter-working in IP networks consists
essentially of inter-domain routing. In the future, the control plane
interconnection of these networks needs to enable e.g. seamless
mobility, routing, QoS, multi-homed networks, charging, and security.
For instance, mobility handling is different for a mobile phone, a train
network or a BAN. Hence it needs to be negotiated which specific
protocols to use and in which way. The owners of future mobile networks
often are non-experts and hence auto-configuration is a major issue. The
purpose of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers working
on interconnection of mobile networks and related topics to exchange
their ideas.
Topics of Interest:
Original papers are invited in the area of dynamic interconnection of
networks. Papers must represent high-quality and previously unpublished
work. Topics of interest include:
- Internetworking architectural principles
- End-to-end control interconnection regarding e.g.
Mobility management, routing, QoS provisioning, security, charging
- Naming & addressing for inter-networking
- Moving networks, ad-hoc networking and interconnection technology

Call for Papers Extended Deadlines ! ! !
Workshop on Situation Management (SIMA 2005)
In conjunction with MILCOM 2005, Atlantic City, October 17, 2005
More information in http://www.milcom.org/2005/call_paper_sima.htm.
According to modern US defense doctrine, future wars will be characterized
by heightened mobility, increased operational tempo and more complex and
dynamic situations. As a result, military commanders will require effective
methods of situation monitoring, awareness and control -- operations
collectively identifiable as Situation Management. Critical aspects of
situation management include managing and controlling sources of
information, processing real-time or near real-time streams of events,
representing and integrating low-level events and higher-level concepts,
multi-source information fusion, information presentation that maximizes
human comprehension, reasoning about what is happening and what is
important. Furthermore, commanders will require management support systems
that include control over their current command options, prediction of
probable situation evolutions, and analysis of potential threats and
vulnerabilities. Similar situation management tasks exist in several other
domains including network management, homeland security, emergency/crisis
management and real-time management of situations in financial, medical,
and other service-related domains.
As a rule, situations often involve a large number of dynamic objects that
change states in time and space, and engage each other into fairly complex
spatio-temporal relations. From the management viewpoint it is important to
understand the situations in which these objects participate, to recognize
emerging trends and potential threats, and to undertake required actions.
Understanding dynamic requires complex cognitive modeling, the building of
ontologies, and continuous collection, filtering, and fusion of sensor,
intelligence, database, Internet based and related information sources.
The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for scientists,
engineers and decision makers from government, industry and academia to
present the state of their research, development and systems needs in
situation management, to discuss fundamental issues and problems and to
identify future R&D directions. This workshop encourages contributions from
multiple domains and disciplines. Technical papers are invited on topics
describing specific information systems, techniques and algorithms that
facilitate the process of situation management, including but not limited
to the following topics:
Situation Monitoring and Awareness
Logical Foundations of Situation Calculus
Situation Specification Languages
Situations Ontologies and Semantics
Reasoning about Situations
Learning and Situation Discovery
Predictive Situation Models
Level 2+ Fusion Systems
Threat Identification and Analysis
Cognitive Models of Information Fusion
Real-Time Event Management
Operational Situations
Battlespace Management
Homeland Security Monitoring & Awareness
Emergency Situations & Crisis Management
Sensor and Ad Hoc Network Management
Papers (max 6 pages) have to be submitted at MILCOM's Web site:
http://www.milcom.org/2005/
Papers will be published on CD and appear in IEEE Xplore. Besides authors,
workshop participants are encouraged to submit a short position statement
expressing their thoughts on situation management.
Send notifications on your submissions and inquiries to sima(a)comsoc.org.
Revised Deadlines:
Abstracts/Statements Due: March 31, 2005 (extended from March 15, 2005)

Subject: [Iscc2005] First CfP: TSMC special issue on Collaboration Support Systems
Date: Thu, 17 Mar 2005 12:57:47 +0100
From: Giacomo Cabri <cabri.giacomo(a)unimore.it>
To: iscc2005(a)mail.ing.unibo.it
Call for Papers:
IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics Part A
Special Issue on Collaboration Support Systems
Collaboration is a widely applied style to collect a group of people’s
intelligence. Collaboration support systems serve as an important memory
for the group. Ideally, such a system should evolve to become a
knowledge base for the collaborators and for those who will use the
results of the collaboration. How does one provide effective software
structures and tools that will support a large group of people in their
work, i.e., assembling, making use of, extracting and working with
extensive collections of ideas and multi-media information? This
question is still to be solved.
The aim of this special issue is to make the point of the situation and
to evaluate the state of the art in the field. Possible submissions
should relate to both innovative proposals and global views of
well-established systems/approaches not published elsewhere. Papers
should present approaches relying on computational or mathematical
models, and/or be supported by empirical evaluations.
This call for papers will be distributed by means of mailing lists, a
web site, flyers at relevant conferences and personal contacts of the
guest editors.
Each submission will be reviewed by three referees. The referees will be
recruited among the constituent IEEE Technical Committee members for
Collaborative Intelligent Systems, the program committee members of
related conferences, and other experienced colleagues.
This special issue solicits, but is not limited to, papers on topics
that clearly address collaboration support systems, including:
· Human requirements for collaboration on distributed computer systems;
· Organizational behaviors on collaboration support systems;
· Formal and abstract models for collaboration support systems;
· Role and group structures on collaboration support systems;
· Objects and agents in collaboration support systems;
· Multi-user interface design for collaboration support systems;
· Analysis and evaluations of collaboration support systems;
· Security and privacy issues in collaboration support systems;
· Information sharing in collaboration support systems;
· Software engineering for collaboration support systems; and
· Industry and enterprise application case study.
Important Dates
· October 3, 2005 Submission deadline
· March 2, 2006 responses to the authors
· July 1, 2006 final papers due
· November 2006 expected publication
