Special Section Proposal for IEEE Access
The New Era of Smart Cities: Sensors, Communication Technologies and Applications
http://ieeeaccess.ieee.org/special-sections/new-era-smart-cities-sensors-communication-technologies-applications/
Submission Deadline: April 30, 2017.
Population in cities is increasing day-by-day. According to United Nation it is estimated that by 2050, 66% of the world population will live in cities. This is an indicative of a drive to live in more privileged and smarter environment. Therefore, there exists an increased demand for intelligent and sustainable environment that offers citizens of urban areas a high quality life. Smart City may be a solution.
Millions of dedicated and reliable sensors are required in Smart Cities to enhance the quality of urban living. Communications infrastructure is inevitably required for connecting these sensors. In order to better manage urban resources, there exists a need to explore the issues like deployment of sensors, communication technologies, information management and defining and deploying proper Smart City applications.
In this Special Section, we focus on the most recent advances in the interdisciplinary research areas encompassing the smart cities domain. This special section will bring together researchers from diverse fields and specializations, such as communication engineering, computer science, electrical and electronics engineering, bio-medical engineering, education, mathematics Through this Special Section, we invite researchers from academia, industry, and governmental organizations to discuss challenging ideas and novel research contributions, demonstrate results, and share standardization efforts on the smart cities and related areas.
Topics of interest include, but not limited to the following:
• Resource and network management in smart cities• Communication Architecture• Communication requirements and Protocol design issues in Smart cities• Modeling Network Performance in Smart Cities• Protocols for intelligent traffic handling• Technologies for communication in smart cities• Quality of Service (QoS)/Quality of Experience (QoE) mechanisms for wireless networks in smart cities• Integration and co-existence of technologies and networks for smart cities• Interoperability between heterogeneous networks of smart cities• Energy-aware wireless protocols and algorithms for smart cities• Experimental network measurements and characterization for smart city data traffic• Cooperative and smart sensing techniques • Sensor deployment, placement, control and management issues• Experimental results, prototypes and test-beds for smart cities • Security issues and solutions for privacy in smart cities• Sensing technologies• Sensor Data Collection and Management• Applications for Smart Cities
