This year, MMNS 2004 is introducing the concept of an "application session". These sessions focus on the management of multimedia networks and services from an industry and end-user perspective. Particular emphasis will be placed on the experiences of enterprises, Service Providers, vendors, and customers in the following two areas:
* The move towards implementing network autonomics * New architectures and mechanisms to support mission critical or next generation wireless/multimedia systems and services
The first session includes any and all work on making all components of the managed environment (e.g., network devices, applications, servers, middleware, and others) behave in an autonomic fashion. The second session includes any and all work on management and control architectures, and the mechanisms that they use, to support next generation wireless/multimedia systems and services.
The application sessions therefore complement the main conference track, which is focused on theory and research results. Its aim is to help encourage discussions between academia and industry, and to emphasize the practical application and problems encountered when building and managing multimedia systems and services.
Please note that "vendor advertisements" will not be allowed.
1. How it will be organized The Application Session will consist of two groups of sessions. The first, focusing on Network Autonomics, will be chaired by John Strassner. The second, focusing on architectures, will be chaired by Raymond Liao. Both sessions will have their own application committee, which will be responsible for reviewing and selecting papers submitted to each application session. The Application Session will also use EDAS for paper submissions.
2. Organizational Details of the Application Session The paper format should be written in English. The presentation must be original that is not currently under review, and has not been previously published in another conference or journal. Submissions will be in the form of presentations, with the top half consisting of graphics, and the bottom half made up of explanatory text. Submissions should be no longer than 14 pages, including title and references. A sample PowerPoint file will be available from the MMNS website for use as a reference.
