14th IEEE Workshop on Local and Metropolitan Area Networks (LANMAN 2005) September 18-21, 2005, Chania, Island of Crete, Greece http://www.ieee-lanman.org
Sponsored by: IEEE Communications Society
The IEEE LAN/MAN Workshop continues its long tradition as a leading forum for showcasing the latest technical advances in networking in the local and metropolitan areas. The workshop seeks to focus on three areas that are currently generating considerable interest: Metro and access networks, where optical and broadband wireless technologies are vying to realize true broadband connectivity, promising abundant, inexpensive, and readily available bandwidth; A second emphasis will be on Applications, such as Storage, Gaming and Computing that seek to exploit high speed metro area connectivity; A third area will be on Wireless networks and architectures. The realization of cost effective metro and access networks requires both theoretical investigations (including new architectures, concepts, and economic and service models) and experimentation (including prototypes, testbeds, and applications).
Single-track presentations are planned to stimulate technical exchange among researchers and practitioners with a broad interest in networking; we specifically welcome submissions on both optical and broadband wireless networks and relevant experimental activities. Submissions should be short, focused, and provide a forum for discussion of new and interdisciplinary ideas. Novel and speculative ideas are particularly encouraged. Extended abstracts are solicited on any LAN/MAN topic including, but not limited to, the following: * Broadband Wireless Access * Emerging access networks: * WiFi: roaming services, Ethernet in the First Architectures & Performance Mile, EPONs, FTTx * Resilient Packet Rings * Measurement, modeling * SANs and Storage over MANs and performance evaluation * IEEE standards (802.3ah, * QoS, dynamic bandwidth .16, .17, .20) allocation, capacity * Optical WDM networks based placement/provisioning on packet, burst, and flow * Routing Issues switching * Network survivability, * RFid protocols & performance self-healing rings * Topology adaptation, * Network security reconfigurability * Pricing, multi-vendor * Network management interoperability related to LANs/MANs * Applications over MANs * Heterogeneous Wireless (Gaming, Distributed Computing) and Ad-Hoc Networks * Sensor Networks
The 14th LAN/MAN workshop will be held from September 18th to 21st, 2005 in the picturesque city of Chania, Crete, Greece (www.chania.gr). The technical interactions at the workshop will be enhanced by the unique beauty of the city of Chania which boasts a rich cultural heritage and ancient monuments.
Submission, Review and Publication: Please submit a 4-6 page extended abstract, including figures and tables. All abstracts must be electronically submitted in PDF according to the guidelines in the workshop website http://www.ieee-lanman.org. The published proceedings will include the final version of the Extended Abstract of up to 6 pages. Selected papers will be directed to a magazine or journal publication after the workshop. Important Dates: ============ Submissions Due: May 6, 2005 Notification of Acceptance: July 15, 2005 Workshop: September 18-21, 2005
Attendees: The number of workshop attendees will be limited.
