CALL FOR PAPERS
Recent years have seen the trend from closed applications designed in isolation to open systems in which network-wide resources are not a priori fixed. Components of such applications are developed independently and run in environments that vary over time, hence requiring adaptability.
Variants of middleware, based on existing technologies such as CORBA, COM, EJB, Jini, Java RMI, etc. should provide adaptability either by built-in mechanisms, or by mechanisms to support evolving applications. One example of adaptability is transparent recovery from failures, implemented by fault tolerance mechanisms. Other features might include: adaptation to variations in load and resource demands, defence against external threats and intrusions, etc.
Ensuring adherence to performance requirements in such open platforms on an application-to-application basis demands characterization of metrics, measurement techniques, evaluation methods and benchmarks.
Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to:
- Performance for reflective middleware
- Performance for mobile, ad-hoc and sensor networks
- Metrics and evaluation strategies
- Adaptation for intrusion tolerance
- Adaptation to faults
- Data consistency and performance
- Real-time and power-aware middleware
- Programming for adaptation, e.g. Aspects
- Performance studies of communication primitives, e.g.
point-to-point, publish/subscribe
QoS-aware application support
Case studies and trade-off assessments
Papers
Original work not published and not subject to review elsewhere is solicited. Papers should be of length 5-8 pages in standard IEEE format, including abstract, 3-5 keywords, and corresponding author's e-mail.
