Call for Papers

IEEE GLOBECOM 2012 Workshop

International Workshop on Machine-to-Machine Communications
'Key' to the Future Internet of Things
In conjunction with IEEE GLOBECOM 2012, 3-7 December 2012, Disneyland Hotel, Anaheim, California, USA

(Workshop homepage http://iwm2m.cttc.es)

Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications recently received tremendous global attention from academia, industries, and governments. M2M systems are a major step towards the future Internet of Things and offer new services and applications, such as e-healthcare, smart city, smart grid, intelligent transportation, remote monitoring, and logistics. Such services and applications open a mass market and several business opportunities, whilst transforming the way communication systems are defined and operate.
M2M communications requires the development of novel solutions to efficiently serve a huge number of devices that interact autonomously at a global level. It also opens a wide research area for future M2M communications, including investigations on scalability, wide-area coverage, energy-efficiency, spectral-efficiency, heterogeneity, cooperation, and security. This workshop will shed light on major aspects of M2M communications including radio aspects, networking aspects as well as service aspects. Topics of interest include all aspects related to M2M communications, including results from academic and industry research as well as practical aspects of M2M communications. In particular, this workshop calls for contributions on the following topics:

-       System architecture and components

-       Radio access network technologies and protocols

-       Spectrum management for M2M

-       Channel and traffic models

-       Middleware for M2M

-       Interworking protocols and mechanisms

-       Cloud support for M2M applications

-       Device, data and service management for M2M

-       Semantic technologies for M2M

-       Mobility management for M2M

-       Naming and addressing

-       Security, trust and privacy of M2M devices and services

-       New M2M applications, services, and business models

-       Field Trials / Test-beds / Regulatory issues

-       Current and upcoming standardization efforts

Important Dates
Paper Submission: 30 June 2012 (Extended Final Deadline)
Acceptance Notification: 15 August 2012
Camera-Ready: 15 September 2012
Workshop Date: 3 or 7 December 2012 (Full Day)

Authors Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit original contributions that were not previously published or currently under review by any other workshop, conference, or journal.Papers need to be uploaded to the EDAS GLOBECOM 2012 workshop submission link (http://edas.info/N12459) for this workshop, and should follow the GLOBECOM 2012 paper submission guidelines. All submissions should be written in English with a maximum paper length of Six (6) printed pages (10-point font) including figures without incurring additional page charges (maximum 1 additional page with over-length page charge of USD100 if accepted). Papers exceeding 7 pages will not be accepted at EDAS, nor reviewed at all. Accepted papers will be published in IEEE Xplore. IEEE reserves the right to exclude a paper from distribution after the conference (e.g., removal from IEEE Xplore) if it is not presented at the conference.
