The utility of the Internet is expanding in so many ways. Today, the Internet accommodates a wide variety of information, services, people, communities, and cultures. The Internet is also becoming the engine and the platform of choice for a diverse range of applications and busineses. Additionally, driven by market demands, the Internet is required to be ubiquitous and pervasive; accessible and usable from any device and through any network, including wireless and mobile. The Symosium on Applications and the Internet focuses on emerging and future Internet applications and their enabling technologies. The symposium provides a forum for researchers and practitioners from the academic, industrial, and public sectors, to share their latest innovations on Internet technologies and applications. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
Internet Agents: novel distributed programming models, mobile agents, agent communication, agent community, socio-economical aspects of use of IA
Collaboration Technology: groupware, telepresence, telematics, and Internet communities (virtual collaboration spaces)
Internet Content Management Systems: XML and semi-structured data, information fusion, web-based databases, and data mining
Internet Content Delivery: web caching, multimedia, adaptations, QoS
E-Buisiness: infrastructure for e-services, brokering, negotiation, B2B, Internet workflow, and virtual enterprise
Wireless and Mobile Internet: content adaptation, e-serivces, mobile commerce
Standards for Internet Applications: XML, SOAP, UDDI, WSDL, WSFL, ebXML, Java, .NET, Sun One
GRID Computing and its applications
Internet Appliances: smart phones, PDAs, sensor networks, smart home

TUTORIALS, PANELS AND WORKSHOPS Proposals are solicited for panels, full- and half-day tutorials and workshops. Tutorial proposals should be submitted to the Tutorials Chair, Dr. Peter In (hohin@cs.tamu.edu). Panel proposals should be submitted to the Panels Co-Chairs, Dr. Ly Sauer and Dr. Tadanobu Okada (ldsauer@sandia.gov, okada.tadanobu@lab.ntt.co.jp). Workshop proposals should be submitted to the Workshops Co-Chairs, Dr. Larry Xue and Dr. Shinji Shimojo (xue@asu.edu, shimojo@cmc.osaka-uac.jp). Workshop papers will be published in a special proceedings section.
PAPER SUBMISSION
Paper submission and review will be done electronically. Information for prospective authors and paper submission instructions can be found in the symposium web page: http://www.saint2003.org
PUBLICATIONS
Proceedings of the symposium and the workshops will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press. There are plans to invite several authors to provide paper revisions for joint special issues of IEEE CS and IPSJ magazines or journals.
