************************************************************ * CALL FOR PAPERS * * * * IMMERSCOM 2007 * * The First International Conference * * on Immersive Telecommunications * * Co-Sponsored by ICST and Microsoft Research *
* In-technical cooperation with ACM SIGMM * * Technically sponsored by Create-Net and EURASIP * * October 10-12, 2007, Italy * * http://www.immerscom.org/ *
************************************************************ All accepted papers will be made available in ACM Digital Library, as well as indexed by EI and ISI Index.
IMMERSCOM is the first international conference that focuses on bridging the traditional gap between immersive technologies and networking for the capturing, processing, analyzing, transmitting and enabling the remote fruition of objects, environments, and bio-entities. The strategic objectives of IMMERSCOM are: - Introduction of networking as the instrument for the remote fruition of immersive multimedia content. - Assessing the sensing, processing, transmission and fruition technologies currently available for immersive telecommunication applications. - Promoting interdisciplinary flow of technical information among industry systems designers and researchers with feedback from the end users. - Identification of technical challenges to provide end-users with the expected remote immersive experience in various application contexts.
HIGHLIGHTS: - Selected papers will be considered for publication in: * the "Advances in Multimedia" Journal, * the "Signal, Image and Video processing" by Springer Journal, * the ACM "Computers in Entertainment" magazine, and * the ACM/URSI/Springer Wireless Networks (WiNET) Journal. - Microsoft Research will provide a number of Student Travel Grants to Students Authors with accepted papers in the conference. Application information is now available on the website.
TOPICS: The conference solicits original technical papers that were not previously published and are not currently under review for publication elsewhere. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
Networking for Immersive Applications: - Multimedia networking for rich 3D Visualization - Mixed/Augmented reality delivery - Networked management for immersive applications - QoS for immersive applications - Perceptual factors in 3D transmission - Networking for tele-presence - Real-time network protocols for immersive applications - Joint source and channel coding for rich 3D visualization and interactive applications - Network support for mobile end systems in immersive applications
Interfaces for Immersive Interaction: - 3D Scanning technologies and devices - 3D Reconstruction/Visualization techniques - Stereoscopic and auto-stereoscopic interfaces - Mixed and Augmented reality interfaces - Immersive interactive environments - Affective User Interfaces - Human factors for immersive interaction - Issues in handheld devices - Wearable devices and haptics - Interfaces for tele-presence - Multi-modal interfaces - Perceptual interfaces
Technologies for Immersion: - Video/Image rendering - 3D modeling - Pervasive sensing - Data fusion - 3D displays technology - Mobility issues for immersion - Tele-reality - Body tracking - Gesture recognition - Macro- and micro-kinematics modeling
Prototypes: - Medical and biomedical applications - Computer animations / games - Education and training - Virtual museums and tourism - Virtual manufacturing and e-commerce
PANELS: We are seeking panel proposals on cutting edge topics related to immersive experiences and the technology required to make them a reality. A proposal should focus on a specific topic of current interest related to interfaces for immersive interaction, technologies for immersion, networking for immersive applications etc. Please send panel proposals in PDF format by July 1, 2007 to the Panels Chair, Maribeth Gandy (Maribeth at cc.gatech.edu).
PAPER SUBMISSION: Please visit the conference website (http://www.immerscom.org/submission.shtml) for detailed instructions.
STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS: Applications are invited from qualified students. Check the website (http://www.immerscom.org/studentgrants.shtml) for more details.
IMPORTANT DATES: Full papers due June 15, 2007 Notification of acceptance August 10, 2007 Camera-ready Manuscripts due August 24, 2007 Conference Dates October 10-12, 2007
