https://www.journals.elsevier.com/computer-communications/call-for-papers/sp... Computer Communications (Elsevier) Special Issue on Intelligent Wireless Networking, Sensing, and Communications Heterogenous modern smart devices are penetrating various aspects of people’s work and life. Cisco estimates that the total number of global mobile subscribers will reach 5.7 billion while nearly 300 million mobile applications will be downloaded by 2023. The increasing number of smart devices and the emerging diverse applications brings forward an inevitable need for highly efficient processing and operation of wireless networking, sensing, and communications. To realize this vision, a promising approach is to integrate machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) into the design, planning, and optimization of wireless communication networks. ML enables deep mining of valuable knowledge from network data and automatically discovers latent relations that are difficult to extract by human experts. Popular ML techniques such as Deep learning (DL) and Reinforcement Learning have achieved remarkable performance for complex real-world problems in various areas such as natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, gaming, and robotics. Consequently, the emerging ML methods provide enormous research opportunities to enable intelligent wireless communication, sensing, and networking by addressing key problems including signal processing, network optimization, resource management, routing, network protocol design, user behaviour analysis, etc. The objective of this special issue is to assemble high-quality research papers on emerging theories, frameworks, architectures and algorithms for solving the challenging problems related to intelligent wireless networking, sensing, and communications. In addition to papers from open call, the substantially extended works of selected excellent papers from the 17th International Conference on Mobility, Sensing and Networking (MSN-2021) will be recommended to this special issue. It will offer an open platform for scholars and engineers to exchange their recent novel ideas and explore the potential convergence of existing wireless networking, sensing, and communication systems and advanced ML and AI technologies. Topics include, but are not limited to the following: • Intelligent resource and network management • Distributed machine learning algorithms and implementations over wireless communication networks • Machine learning and AI for anomaly detection • Machine learning and AI for PHY layer design and implementation • Intelligent drone systems and vehicular networks • Machine learning and AI for application behaviour prediction and user experience modelling and optimization • Machine learning and AI for transport-layer congestion control • Intelligent network virtualization and software defined networking • Machine learning and AI for wireless sensing and networking • Performance evaluation in wireless communication systems Important Deadlines: • Manuscript Submission Deadline: 15 Feb 2022 • Authors Notification Date: 15 April 2022 • Revised Papers Due Date: 15, June 2022 • Final notification Date: 15, July 2022 Guest Editors: - Jia Hu, University of Exeter, UK, (Lead Guest Editor) - Miguel López-Benítez, University of Liverpool, UK - Geyong Min, University of Exeter, UK - Lei Yang, University of Nevada, Reno, USA
