*The 14th International Conference on Telecommunication Systems - Modeling and Analysis (ICTSM2006) *
*October 5-8, 2006*
*Penn** **State** **University** Berks, **Reading** ,** **PA*
*Description of the Conference: *
The ICTSM 2006 takes an interdisciplinary approach to Telecommunications in that both researchers and practitioners from industry and academia are encouraged to present on a wide area of telecommunication-related research issues. The objective is to advance the state of the modeling and analysis in telecommunications by stimulating research activity on new and important problems. This conference will mark the first where undergraduate research in telecommunications will be given its own track to highlight the work being done in smaller institutions and on class research projects with industry.
Listed below are topics covered in past conferences; these are not meant to be an exclusive list and novel ideas/topics are encouraged:
*Telecom technologies/networks*
* Mobility and nomadicity * IPv6 and related issues * Cellular and MANET (Mobile Ad Hoc) networks * Topological design and network configuration problems * Low, medium, and geostationary earth orbit satellite communication systems * Broadband wireless networks * Telecommunication network availability and survivability * Network design problems in gigabit and Terabit networks * Artificial intelligence/heuristics in telecommunication systems * Fiber-optics and photonics * Protocols for telecommunications
*Telecom policies *
* Pricing and the economic analysis of telecommunications * Policies for transitioning between telecommunication technologies * Telecommunication standards * Impact of telecommunications on the industrial organization * Convergence regulations
*Telecom management*
* Nature of trust in telecommunication-based systems * Quantitative methods in network management * Reliability of telecommunication systems and components * LAN, WAN global network interconnection * Performance evaluation of telecommunication systems * Internet and its impact on commerce * Decision support technologies in telecommunications
*Social issues of telecom *
* Organizational impact of modern telecommunication systems * International aspects of telecommunications * Security and privacy issues in telecommunications * Telecommunication to support healthcare systems * Telecommunications in Transportation * Global Internet infrastructure issues with respect to the global war on terrorism

*Organizers: *
The ICTSM was founded and organized by Professor Bezalel Gavish, Eugene J. and Ruth F. Constantin Distinguished Chair in Business at Southern Methodist University. Drs. Mike Bartolacci, Abdullah Konak, and Dong-Hee Shin will be responsible for the local organization of the conference at Penn State Berks. In the past, the conference has been held at Vanderbilt (Nashville , TN ), Southern Methodist ( Dallas , TX ), and the Naval Postgraduate School (Monterey, CA ).* *

*Contributed Submissions Papers and Abstracts: *
Submissions may be of one of two types:
1. One to two page extended abstract (after acceptance a full paper may be substituted for inclusion in the proceedings)
2. Five to fifteen page full paper Full papers relating to wireless communications will be considered for a special issue of the International Journal of Mobile Network Design and Innovation to be edited by Dr. Bartolacci. Other papers will be considered for the journal Telecommunication Systems edited by Dr. Gavish.
All contributed submissions will be reviewed by members of the conference program committee for their applicability/potential interest for conference attendees and merit. Formal announcements of acceptance will be sent out following the end of the review period. Authors can submit an abstract or full paper by e-mail to Dr. Bezalel Gavish at gavishb2000@yahoo.com mailto:gavishb2000@yahoo.com.* *
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Organized Sessions *
Researchers may organize sessions with three to four presentations and associated abstracts or papers. Organized sessions require that all presentations/abstracts/papers deal with a similar research area or theme. A researcher may email Dr. Gavish (gavishb2000@yahoo.com mailto:gavishb2000@yahoo.com) or Dr. Bartolacci (mrb24@psu.edu) with details for the proposed organized session in order to get approval for its inclusion. Organized sessions are particularly attractive for faculty in research centers or groups of students working on similar research topics. Once approved, the organizer of the session is responsible for ensuring that all presenters submit their abstracts or papers by the deadline and register.* *

*Formatting for Accepted Paper/Abstract Submissions *
Final guidelines for the formatting of papers and abstracts will be available on the conference website following the acceptance process. Even if an extended abstract is submitted and accepted for the conference, a full paper may then subsequently submitted for inclusion in the printed proceedings and for journal consideration.
*Important Dates:*
May 15, 2006 : Deadline for contributed paper or abstract submission
June 15, 2006 : Notification of acceptance decisions on contributed papers and abstracts,
*Deadline for proposals of organized sessions:*
August 1, 2006 : Deadline for organized sessions
