Scope
Wireless networks and communication systems are increasingly being used in a wide range of networking applications, from general purpose networks, personal area networks and short-range communications, to sensor networks, ubiquitous computing, and other networks with fixed or variable topology. Performance evaluation of the network with respect to the application requirements is a vital part of research in this area, where network performance is affected by different aspects at the physical, data link, network, and transport layers, all of which are intimately related to topology, energy efficiency, management, user mobility, and security issues.
This workshop will focus on the area of performance evaluation of wireless networks and communication systems, spanning a wide range of issues from physical to application layer. The main objective is to evaluate relevant models, algorithms, protocols, simulation tools, and other recent advances that lead to improved understanding of the performance of wireless networks and communication systems.
Topics of Interest
We are seeking papers that describe original and unpublished contributions addressing various performance aspects of wireless networks and communication systems including modeling, simulation and measurement/testing. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Performance of wireless local area networks, wireless personal area networks, ad hoc networks, and sensor networks
* Recent standards for wireless communications (802.11, Bluetooth, 802.15 and its varieties, ZigBee, etc.), their performance and comparison
* Media access control protocols and their impact on performance
* Routing, broadcasting, and multicasting
* Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning
* TCP performance in WPANs and ad-hoc networks
* User mobility modeling, mobility management, and the impact of mobility on network performance
* Topology construction and maintenance, and the impact of topology changes on network performance
* Interoperability, interference and co-existence of wireless networks of different standards
* Performance issues of integration of WLANs and WPANs with the 3G cellular systems
* Methods for analytical modeling of wireless networks
* Methods and tools for wireless network simulation and performance evaluation
Paper Submission
Submit full papers as PDF files by email to both program chairs. The papers should not have more than twenty single-column, double-spaced pages, excluding figures, tables, and references, using a font of at least 12-point size. It is crucial that all graphical and tabular elements be placed within the text, so that the PDF file is suitable for reviewing. In addition to the paper in PDF format, your submission should include the title of the paper, the names of the authors and their affiliations, postal address, phone, fax, and e-mail address of the corresponding author, an abstract with up to 200-250 words, and up to five keywords describing the contents of the paper.
Deadlines Submission of Papers: January 31, 2005 Notification of Acceptance: April 25, 2005 Final Camera-Ready Submission: May 23, 2005
Sponsored by The Society for Modeling and Simulation International, SCS.
