Call for papers and proposals -----------------------------
The IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo (ICME) is an annual joint activity of the Circuits and Systems Society, the Communications Society, the Computer Society, and the Signal Processing Society of IEEE. This annual event brings together more than 500 researchers, engineers, and students to discuss the state-of-the-art research, technology and applications in multimedia. In addition to paper presentations, the ICME 2004 features distinguished keynote speeches, tutorials, and poster presentations. Continuing the spirit of the conference series, the ICME 2004 will also host industrial exhibitions and academia research demonstrations.
We invite contributions describing research, development and applications in the following, and related, areas. Papers submitted should adhere to a double-column, single-space, 4-page format. Electronic submissions are encouraged. Topics include but not limited to:
Audio, speech, image, graphic, and video processing Content-based information retrieval and pattern discovery Embedded Video Hardware and software for multimedia systems Integration of media, art, and multimedia technology Intelligent multimedia signal processing Location aware multimedia systems Multimedia communications and networking Multimedia computing systems and appliances Multimedia database and digital libraries Multimedia human-machine interface and interaction Multimedia security and content protection Multimedia standards and related issues Signal processing for media integration Virtual reality and 3-D imaging Wireless multimedia
Special Session Proposals: ICME 2004 will include a number of special sessions on cutting-edge topics related to emerging multimedia research and especially in fast developing areas that are in an embryonic phase. Proposals for special sessions must include a title, contact information for the session chair(s), a paragraph on the overall theme of the session, and a list of authors who have agreed to present papers in the session. Proposals for special sessions should be submitted to Dr. Qi Tian (tian@i2r.a-star.edu.sg) and to Dr. Nevenka Dimitrova (nevenka.dimitrova@philips.com).
Tutorial Proposals: Tutorials will be held on June 27th, 2004. Tutorial proposals should include a description and outline, materials to be distributed, and short vitae of the speaker(s). Tutorial proposals should be submitted to Dr. Ton Kalker (ton.kalker@ieee.org) and to Dr. Yun Q. Shi (shi@njit.edu).
Exhibition and Demonstration Proposals: Exhibition participants should be industrial or research organizations. Each exhibitor will receive an acknowledgement in the conference program. Demonstrations should be research projects from universities or research organizations. A two-page paper for the demonstration will be included in the CDROM proceedings. Proposals of Exhibitions and Demonstrations should be submitted to Dr. Ja-Ling Wu (wjl@csie.ntu.edu.tw) and to Dr. Jen-Shiun Chiang (chiang@ee.tku.edu.tw).
Social Events: The participants will be pleased with the Chinese palace style architecture at the Grand Hotel with convenient transportation. In addition to sightseeing, the conference will arrange tours to the National Palace Museum, containing many fabulous Chinese art treasures, as well as hiking in the famous Yangmingshan National Park.
