Call for Paper Special Issue PIK on Mobile Ad-hoc Networks PIK IV/2009
Scope of the Special Issue Recently, mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) researchers show a large interest in application and application-oriented protocol research. While the basic organization of routing has been addressed since a couple of years, more recent activities include auto-configuration, security and data privacy, integration into hybrid networks, or efficient use of various resources, such as bandwidth, energy, or memory. Furthermore, the focus is shifted towards specific environments like vehicular networks, mesh networks, or wireless sensor networks. Whereas research on generic MANETs always struggled with unclear operational conditions, a myriad of protocols and applications is designed in these specialized areas. However, the goal still must be to generalize these approaches to provide for broader ranges of MANETs.
It is the goal of this special issue to present approaches and solutions in a wide variety of MANET-related domains in order to enable this generalization and transfer ideas between the different areas.
Therefore, this special issue of the PIK magazine covers ongoing research on the lower radio transmission layer all the way up to the application layer relevant in MANETs. Furthermore, dedicated application scenarios, such as vehicle-to-vehicle communications, disaster recovery or emergency services are of high interest.
Tutorial-style articles in these fields are also solicited, if they provide a structured introduction and overview of state-of-the-art technologies, mechanisms, or architectures.
Areas of Interest Contributions in the following areas are of specific interest but are not limited to: • Multi-hop wireless networks • Infrastructure-less networks • Mesh networks • Inter-Vehicular-Communication (IVC, V2X, C2X) • Wireless sensor networks • Underwater sensor networks • Use of cognitive radio • Use of software defined radio • Ad-hoc Networking architectures and protocols • Applications and application scenarios for ad-hoc networks (e.g. disaster recovery, emergency services, ..) • Routing mechanisms • Scalability and simulations • Energy efficiency • QoS for ad-hoc networks • Self-configuration and self-organization in ad-hoc networks • Auto-configuration and addressing • Security, privacy, and data protection in ad-hoc networks • Software platforms (middleware) for mobile applications • Location-based services and their deployment • Context management for ad-hoc services • Pricing models and accounting schemes for commercial ad-hoc services • Management mechanisms of ad-hoc networks
Important Information Authors should send their submissions (German or English language) in PDF format only and by e-mail to Matthias Frank (matthew@cs.uni-bonn.de). The submission should not exceed 6 pages (one page of the PIK format equals approximately 6000 characters excluding figures).
All submissions will be peer-reviewed. In case of an acceptance, the final and camera-ready version of the article has to take into account all comments of those reviews received.
