Call For Papers - Special Issue
*SUBMISSION DUE DATE: May 31, 2011*
*SPECIAL ISSUE ON Self-Aware and Adaptive Embedded Systems* International Journal of Embedded and Real-Time Communication Systems (IJERTCS)
*Guest Editors: * Juha Plosila, University of Turku, Finland Waltenegus Dargie, Technical University of Dresden, Germany
*INTRODUCTION:* Self-aware and adaptive (SAA) systems are able to perceive the changes in their status and the surrounding environment, and adapt to these changes to provide an optimal performance. Self-adaptation and self-optimization belong to the broad scope of autonomic computing. In the research community as well as industry, one can observe the emergence of self-aware and adaptive communication and embedded systems in various forms, for instance, massively parallel processing, sensor networks, and cyber-physical systems (CPS). They can be used extensively in different application domains, including consumer electronics, medical applications, smart houses, space applications, and automotive electronics. Properly exploiting self-awareness and adaptation can strongly benefit every major design concern in system development, including cost and yield, power and energy efficiency, dependability and security, as well as design productivity and time-to-market.
*OBJECTIVE OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE:* The objective of this special issue of IJERTCS is to bring together innovative works on self-aware and adaptive embedded and communication systems. Articles in different application and system domains, both as research papers and industrial case studies are requested. Works on the design, modeling and analysis from each abstraction level (system, architecture or circuit), as long as they improve our understanding of self-aware and adaptive features and contribute to the development of such systems are welcomed. Survey papers with an enlightening perspective on the technology and a well-justified evaluation of its future are also encouraged.
*RECOMMENDED TOPICS:* Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not limited to) the following (in the context of embedded and communication systems):
* Theory, specification, modeling and implementation of self-aware and adaptive systems * Parallel and distributed SAA system architectures * Application engineering for SAA Systems * Study of awareness and adaptation for power and energy optimization * Dependability and security issues in SAA systems * Case studies and industrial applications (consumer electronics, medical, automotives, smart houses, space and defense, etc.) * Self-aware and adaptive cyber-physical systems (CPS) in the embedded system context * Wireless sensor networks with self-aware and adaptive features * Formal methods in the design and verification of SAA systems * Survey of state-of-the-art works
*SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:* Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this special issue /*on or before May 31st, 2011.*/ All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE JOURNAL'S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at http://www.igi-global.com/development/author_info/guidelines submission.pdf http://www.igi-global.com/development/author_info/guidelines%20submission.pdf.
Papers must follow APA style for reference citations.
*TIMELINE:* Last date for submitting the manuscript: May 31st, 2011 1st round result: Aug 31st, 2011 Final decision: Nov. 15th, 2011 Camera-ready: Dec. 1st, 2011 Tentative Publication: Mid 2012
