International Journal of High Performance Computing and Networking (IJHPCN) A Special Issue on
Recent Advances in Collaborative Internet Computing
Cooperative computing aims at enabling different parties to work together towards a pre-defined non-trivial goal. It involves important technological areas like computer supported cooperative work (CSCW), workflow, computer- assisted design, databases, distributed systems, and concurrent programming. In the past few years, the prosperity of cooperative computing has been accelerated by the ubiquity of the Internet and the advent of wireless technologies, giving rise to the new research discipline of Collaborative Internet Computing (CIC). Now, cooperating parties can work over the Internet at any time and place. At the same time, we have also witnessed an enormous leap in communication speed/bandwidth as brought by advancement in technologies. This has opened up a wide range of new cooperative applications that were not feasible in the past.
Since 2000, a series of three workshops on CIC have been organized by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The workshops have served as a platform for researchers in the related disciplines of CIC to present and exchange their latest works and ideas. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of high quality submissions. Also, many important research results have been reported which subsequently have influenced other works on CIC. These have strengthened our belief that a community with common interest in CIC has been formed and a critical mass of researchers has been built up. This special issue will provide a forum for timely and in-depth presentation of progress in the theory and principles underlying Cooperative Interactive Computing.
Topics of interest include (but not limited to):
* Agents and Brokers for Cooperative Computing * Human-Computer Interaction * Interaction Models and Protocols for Cooperative Systems * Internet Communication Infrastructure for Collaboration * Middleware for Collaboration * Java, CORBA, DCOM, and XML Cooperative Application * Workflow Systems * Mobile Cooperative Systems * Distributed Multimedia Systems * Enterprise Knowledge Management * Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing * Computer-Supported Cooperative Work * Evaluation Methodologies of Cooperative Systems * Case Studies
