*********************************************************************** CALL FOR PAPERS ***********************************************************************
Special Session on
"PROGRAMMING MODELS FOR MULTIMEDIA CLUSTER AND GRID COMPUTING"
held as part of the
6th Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Image Processing, Video Processing, and Multimedia (PDIVM'2005) (http://www.cosy.sbg.ac.at/~uhl/pdivm.html)
in conjunction with the International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium IPDPS Denver, Colorado, USA, April 8th, 2005
The special session constitutes one of the sessions of the PDIVM 2005 workshop, organized as part of the 2005 IPDPS Conference. There will be no separate registration for the special session or the workshop. Accepted papers will be published by IEEE CS Press (a CD-ROM with a printed abstracts book).
************** TOPICS **************
Even though many multimedia applications are ideally suited for parallel execution, most researchers in multimedia do not benefit from the many commodity clusters and wide-area Grid systems available around the world today. Primarily, this problem is due to the lack of user-friendly tools that can effectively help non-expert parallel programmers in creating high performance multimedia applications. Clearly, the key to effective application development by non-experts in parallel computing lies in the availability of high-level programming models for multimedia processing.
This special session brings together researchers and developers working on all aspects of the design of user-friendly programming models, tools, and frameworks for multimedia computing. Issues of interest include, but are not limited to:
*) domain-specific programming models *) languages for multimedia computing (object-oriented, functional, ...) *) multimedia server-based approaches *) domain-specific compiler directives *) automatic parallelization *) automatic performance optimization *) performance modeling *) skeletons and algorithmic patterns *) evaluation of user-friendly tools and frameworks *) applications in user-friendly multimedia computing
************** SUBMISSION **************
Submissions for the special session should be about 4 pages long (i.e. extended abstracts) using the IEEE Proceedings style (available from: http://www.science.uva.nl/~fjseins/IEEEStyle.txt). Final versions will be restricted to 8 pages.
Please submit your extended abstract in postscript or pdf format to fjseins@science.uva.nl using the subject "PDIVM special session paper".
************** SCHEDULE **************
Papers due: November 15th, 2004 Author notification: December 20th, 2004 Camera-ready final papers due: January 21st, 2005 Workshop (and IPDPS): (April 4th -) April 8th, 2005
