IBR-DTN works like any DTN implementation I know as an overlay network 
on top of TCP/IP or UDP/IP. The daemon is able to run completely in 
the user space and thus can not change any routes in the kernel 
routing table. To discovery nodes and exchange bundles with them, at 
least a working hop-by-hop ad-hoc network is required.
