I wanted to share some ideas of what is currently being worked on as
some of you may want to know early so they can be prepared.
(1) We have some open naming issues: The name `stools' turns out to be
problematic and the name `stop' is already used by other Unix
tools. So I went ahead an merged the `stop' functionality into
`scli'. This actually works pretty well. So I plan to change the
package setup so that it only provides a single binary - called
scli. stop will go away. (I will also take the opportunity to
change some internal directory names.) I will then call the whole
package scli, which solves the other naming problem.
(2) I am working on generating XML output in addition to the human
readable output we have now. This allows to post-process scli
output with any XML-enabled language. The XML output generated
is rather bulky - but that does not really matter much I guess.
<process index="254">
<status>running</status>
<type>application</type>
<memory unit="KByte">0</memory>
<cpu unit="secs">4031</cpu>
<path>/usr/local/sbin/xntpd</path>
</process>
(3) I have written a draft paper for LISA 2001 about this package.
Some stuff in the paper is already outdated by the recent changes
mentioned above. For those interested, you can pick up the draft
from <http://www.ibr.cs.tu-bs.de/~schoenw/lisa-2001.pdf>. Do not
hesitate to share any comments you might have on the draft.

Hi Juergen,
A feature request from someone who is using the debian stools package.
A quick and working^Hdirty patch against the current CVS tree to get
this to work:
Index: scli.c
===================================================================
RCS file: /anoncvs/stools/scli/scli.c,v
retrieving revision 1.21
diff -r1.21 scli.c
248a249,252
> { "quit",
> 0,
> "exit the scli command line program",
> scli_cmd_exit },
cheers,
Remco.

Subject: Bug#100503: quit as synonym for exit
From: Mark Brown <Mark.Brown(a)ed.aculab.com>
To: Debian Bug Tracking System <maintonly(a)bugs.debian.org>
Date: Mon, 11 Jun 2001 13:30:20 +0100
Package: stools
Version: 0.1.17-1
Severity: wishlist
When using scli I frequently find myself typing "quit" instead of "exit"
to exit the program. It would be nice if the two were synonyms.
