I worked through the name lookup code yesterday night and I think I understand why you have problems. The code insists that you have "snmp" listes in /etc/services (or something equivalent). This is of course broken. In fact, deferring the name lookup until actual SNMP messages are send is a bad idea since it is hard to proper error reporting this way.
I started to rewrite the code to make it a bit more flexible. I have release another snapshot which hopefully works better (see following message).
