The switch is a HP ProCurve J4899B Switch 2650. It can run a snmpv3 server, but now is runnig a snmpv1/v2 server.
I tryed with other HP Procurve switches, but I get the same behaviour.

I can't reproduce this here. It works on my Debian 6.0.5 and the HP ProCurve J4903A Switch 2824, revision I.08.105, ROM I.08.07, I have access to. Perhaps you can capture some packets to find out whether the SNMPv2c requests are not responded to and somehow the fallback to SNMPv1 fails or something else going on. I do not know how much the Debian Lenny / Squeeze versions of scli differ. We have moved all our systems to Squeeze quite some time ago.
