CALL FOR PAPERS
Fourteenth IEEE International Workshop on Quality of Service
(IWQoS 2006)
June 19-21, 2006
Yale University, New Haven, CT, USA
OVERVIEW
Since 1994, IWQoS has evolved into a premier workshop providing an
international forum for the presentation and discussion of cutting edge
research on quality of service (QoS). Building on the successes of previous
workshops, the objective of IWQoS 2006 is to bring together researchers,
developers, and practitioners working in the area to discuss timely research
results, and to identify future directions and challenges in developing
practical computer/networking systems where predictable, controlled, and robust
performance is a central requirement. The workshop's scope will broadly cover
all the important aspects of QoS research: in networking (wireline, wireless,
and sensor networks), distributed systems, operating systems, servers, and
middleware (such as grid computing and peer-to-peer systems), where relevant
technical issues include availability, reliability, security, pricing,
incentive, resource management, and performance guarantees.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
o QoS in grid, peer-to-peer, overlay, and wireless mesh networks
o QoS in large-scale distributed systems
o System dependability, availability, resilience, and robustness
o Security as a QoS parameter
o Rationality, incentive, microeconomics, and self-interest in
decentralized networks
o QoS in wireless, mobile, ad hoc, and sensor networks
o QoS specification, translation, and adaptation
o Measurement-based QoS estimation and verification
o QoS in intranets and VoIP systems
We also solicit papers in the following areas:
o QoS architectures and protocols
o QoS analysis and modeling
o Resource management and admission control
o QoS routing
o QoS pricing and billing
o Evaluation metrics and methodologies for QoS
o Content delivery networks with service/performance guarantees
o QoS in web systems and storage systems
o Programmability and language features supporting QoS
o QoS in multimedia systems
o Service Level Agreements and QoS
o Server-side QoS and its roles in end-to-end QoS provisioning
o QoS-aware middleware frameworks and services
o Integrated and differentiated services in wide-area networks
The workshop is a single track forum of two and a half days. It is
cross-disciplinary and well focused, with an emphasis on innovation. As a
result, a considerable amount of the meeting time will be devoted to informal
discussions. The workshop values both theoretical and practical research
contributions.
BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD
Award will be given at the conference to the best student paper, whose first
author is a current student.

Ad hoc networking technologies have big potentialities for
innovative applications of great impact on our everyday life.
To exploit these potentialities, simulation modeling and
theoretical analyses have to be complemented by real experiences
(e.g., measurements on real prototypes) which provide both a
direct evaluation of ad hoc networks and, at the same time,
precious information to realistically model these systems.
The need for more experimental activities stimulated a new
community of researchers combining theoretical research on
ad hoc networking with experiences/measurements obtained by
implementing ad hoc network prototypes. The aim of REALMAN is to
bring together this community. Following the success of the first
edition, this workshop constitutes a unique forum for presenting
and discussing measurement studies and experiences based on real
ad hoc network test-beds and prototypes.
Original contributions are solicited, related to systems and
protocols *development*, *measurement* and *testing*, in all
areas related to ad hoc networking. We encourage authors willing
to submit a regular paper to also submit a *demo* proposal.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Ad Hoc Networks Applications

*3*^rd International WORKSHOP on
* ‘Next Generation Networking Middleware’ *
*(NGNM06)*
_in the scope of_
*Networking 2006*
5^th IFIP – TC6 Networking Conference
(http://www.ifip-networking.org <http://www.ifip-networking.org/>)
*Date: May, 19 2006*
*Venue: University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal*
*IMPORTANT DATES*
- Submission of papers: March 20, 2006
- Notification of acceptance: April 3, 2006
- Camera-ready due: April 10, 2006
NGNM04 held on May 2004, in conjunction with Networking 2004 conference
in Athens, Greece, constituted a forum for the discussion of innovations
and recent advances in the design and construction of Internet
middleware. Both the requirements and expectations from various
perspectives (i.e., networking, middleware and application level) were
presented and analyzed. NGNM05 held on May 2005, in conjunction with
Networking 2005 conference in Waterloo, Canada, focused on the
identification of composite business services running on an Internet
middleware platform that allows enterprises/networking actors to publish
the services they provide, use services available globally in a secure
manner and automatically compile the various services descriptions into
executable processes. The special issue on “Emerging Middleware for Next
Generation Networks” of Computer Communications journal complemented the
success of NGNM04 and NGNM05.
NGNM06 targets to address the challenges of middleware platforms
required for new generation mobile/wireless heterogeneous radio networks
and services. Mobile/Wireless middleware is anticipated to increase the
performance of applications running across potentially mixed wireless
networks, to support multiple mobile/wireless devices, to provide
continuous wireless access to content and services, to ensure end-to-end
QoS and secure content and services delivery and to offer cross-system
and cross-layer optimization taking into account issues related to usage
behavior, mobility patterns, traffic profiling, network selection and
relevant horizontal/vertical handovers.
Authors are invited to submit complete unpublished works as well as
works on progress in the following, but not limited to, topic areas:
· Middleware support for micro/macro/multi-domain mobility
· Emerging Information Models and Frameworks (i.e., MPEG-21)
· Specification and enforcement of QoS
· Interworking between Heterogeneous Middleware Technologies
· Self-managing networks (self-healing, self-optimizing,
self-protecting and self-configuring)
· Programmable, Active and Adaptive Networks
· Wireless Grids Middleware
· Grid-enabled Networking Middleware
· Performance evaluation and modeling in Wireless/Mobile Middleware
· Middleware support for cross-system and cross-layer optimization
· Middleware security, including authentication and authorization
*_Submissions _*
The workshop welcomes original and review papers from academic and
industry contributors dealing with the above or related issues. All
submissions will be subjected to review by two reviewers. Papers should
be up to 6000 words in English, including bibliography and well-marked
appendices. To submit a paper, send an email to Prof. George Kormentzas
(gkorm(a)aegean.gr), containing the title, the authors' names, e-mail and
post addresses, phone and fax numbers, identification of the contact
author, and attach to the same message your paper in DOC format. The
paper must start with a title, a short abstract, and a list of keywords.
All the accepted papers will be published in the workshop’s proceedings.
Furthermore, as it happened with NGNM04 and NGNM05, some selected papers
will be extended in order to be considered for publication in a
forthcoming special issue of a journal related to the workshop’s goals.

the audience. Demonstrations of previously published systems are also
welcome. The Demo Co-Chairs will select demonstrations based on the
expected interest from the MobiSys audience.
A demo submission requires only an extended abstract no longer than two
8.5x11-inch pages, including all figures and references, describing the
demonstration as well as any special requirements (other than a demo
booth/table). The extended abstract should be formatted in 8.5x11-inch
pages, two columns, single-spaced, with a font no smaller than 10-point.
Submissions must be in Adobe PDF.
Demo proposals must be submitted electronically, by sending the extended
abstract as an attachment in an email message to the Demo Co-Chairs at
<mobisys_demos(a)acm.org>. The subject line should read "MOBISYS DEMO
SUBMISSION" (in upper-case letters). The body of the email should
include, in pure text, the title of the demo and the author list,
