Dear Colleague,
We would like to encourage you to submit highly innovative research
papers to the Twelfth ACM SIGMOBILE Annual International Conference on
Mobile Computing and Networking(ACM MobiCom 2006) - the premier
international forum addressing networks, systems, algorithms, and
applications that support the symbiosis of mobile computers and
wireless networks. ACM MobiCom 2006 will be held in Los Angeles, USA
from September 23rd-29th. The CFP is attached below. Paper submission
deadline is March 17th. Papers must be pre-registered by March
10th. Paper registration and submission are now open in EDAS.
Our intent is for ACM MobiCom 2006 to be more inclusive of papers
across a broad spectrum of topics in wireless networking and mobile
computing. We would also like to solicit submissions of highly
original papers identifying new areas and methodologies. To help
encourage this, we intend to accept approximately 50% more papers than
in previous years and we have added the possibility to submit short
"Hot Topics" papers that present revolutionary new ideas or that
challenge existing assumptions prevalent among the research community.
With your help, we believe this will lead to an exciting program.
We look forward to receiving your submissions and to meeting you in
Los Angeles in September.
Regards,
Chiara Petrioli & Ram Ramjee
PC Chairs, ACM SIGMOBILE MobiCom 2006

CALL FOR PAPERS
MobiCom 2006
The Twelfth Annual International Conference
on Mobile Computing and Networking
September 23-29, 2006
Los Angeles, California, USA
http://www.sigmobile.org/mobicom/2006/
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
ACM MobiCom 2006, the Twelfth Annual International Conference on
Mobile Computing and Networking, is the twelfth in a series of annual
conferences sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE dedicated to addressing the
challenges in the areas of mobile computing and wireless and mobile
networking. The MobiCom conference series serves as the premier
international forum addressing networks, systems, algorithms, and
applications that support the symbiosis of mobile computers and
wireless networks. MobiCom is a highly selective conference focusing
on all issues in mobile computing and wireless and mobile networking
at the link layer and above. MobiCom 2006 will be held in September
2006 in Los Angeles, California.
PAPERS:
Authors are invited to submit full papers presenting new research
related to the theory or practice of mobile computing or wireless and
mobile networking. All submissions must describe original research,
not published or currently under review for another conference or
journal. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Architectures, protocols, and algorithms to cope with mobility,
limited bandwidth, limited power and/or intermittent connectivity
- Applications and services for mobile users
- Fundamental aspects of mobile computing and wireless networking
- Integration and inter-working of wired and wireless networks
- Location-dependent applications and protocols
- Modelling, measurement and simulation aspects of mobile networks
- Mobile ad hoc and sensor networks
- Operating system and middleware support for mobile computing
and networking
- Performance of mobile and wireless networks and systems
- Security, privacy, and fault-tolerance of mobile/wireless systems
- Wireless access technologies for mobile nodes (e.g., multi-radio
and mesh systems, personal area networks)
- Implementations and experimental mobile systems
The program committee will referee all papers, and accepted papers
will be published in the conference proceedings.
HOT TOPIC PAPERS:
The conference also strongly encourages the submission of short papers
in the field of mobile computing and wireless networking that present
revolutionary new ideas or that challenge existing assumptions
prevalent among the research community. These "Hot Topic papers"
should provide stimulating ideas or visions that may open up exciting
avenues and/or influence the direction of future
research. Descriptions of new products or evolution of existing work
are not appropriate topics for papers in this category. While an
exhaustive evaluation of the proposed ideas is not necessary for Hot
Topic papers, insight and in-depth understanding of the issues is
expected. Hot Topic papers will be reviewed by MobiCom program
committee, and accepted papers will be part of the technical program
and published in MobiCom proceedings. They should be submitted using
the same submission procedure adopted for the full papers. The title
of these submissions must start with the words "Hot Topic:" i.e.,
"Hot Topic: Rest of the Title."
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:
All paper submissions will be handled electronically. Authors should
prepare a Portable Document Format (PDF) version of their full
paper. Papers must be no longer than 12 pages (8 pages for "Hot Topic"
papers), in font size no smaller than 10 points, and must fit properly
on US "Letter"-sized paper (8.5x11 inches) with reasonable
margins. The deadline for registering the title and the abstract of the
paper with our electronic submission system is March 10, 2006, and the
deadline for
submitting the actual paper is March 17, 2006. Detailed instructions on
the paper submission procedure and format are available on the conference
web pages.
All submitted papers will be judged based on their quality through
double-blind reviewing, where the identities of the authors are
withheld from the reviewers. Authors' names must not appear in the
paper or in the PDF file. Submitted papers (or substantially similar
papers) must not be currently under review for any other
publication. Please direct any questions about the paper submission
process to the Program Co-Chairs at mobicom_pcchairs(a)acm.org.
TUTORIALS:
Proposals for tutorials are solicited. Evaluation of tutorial
proposals will be based on the expertise and experience of the
instructors, and on the relevance of the subject matter. Potential
instructors are requested to submit a tutorial proposal of at most 5
pages, including a biographical sketch, to the Tutorial Co-Chairs.
PANELS:
Panels are solicited that examine innovative, controversial, or
otherwise provocative issues of interest. Proposals should not exceed
3 pages, including biographical sketches of the panelists. Potential
panel organizers should contact the Panel Co-Chairs.
RESEARCH DEMOS AND EXHIBITS:
Proposals for research demos are solicited. Proposals should not
exceed 3 pages and should include a description of the demo and
equipment to be used. Send proposals to the Research Demo Chair.
STUDENT POSTER SESSION:
Student posters are solicited that present recent and on-going
research by students on mobile computing and mobile wireless
networking. The poster submissions should include a 2-page description
of the student's research. Accepted posters will be put on the
conference web page; however, they will not be printed in the
conference proceedings. Please send submissions to the Student Poster
Chairs.
ACM STUDENT RESEARCH COMPETITION:
MobiCom 2006 will host the ACM Student Research Competition (SRC).
Students submitting to the MobiCom 2006 Poster Program can opt to have
their posters considered also by the SRC committee. Selected
competitors will receive up to $500 USD for their conference travel,
depending on need, and will earn a chance to compete in the SRC Grand
Finals. The winners will be recognized at the Annual ACM Awards
Banquet. Competitors should be prepared to attend the poster session
and, if selected for further competition, give a short talk about
their research projects. Winners will be announced at the
conference. The Student Research Competition is open to graduate and
undergraduate students whose submissions are accepted by the SRC
committee. To be considered, complete a submission to the Student
Poster Program and indicate that you would like to participate in the
SRC. Current ACM student membership and student status as of the
submission deadline are required for the lead student.
BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD:
Papers with a student as a primary author will be considered for the
Best Student Paper award, with an award of $1000 USD. Students must
indicate with their submission that they would like to be considered
for this award.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Abstracts submission due: March 10, 2006
Paper submissions due: March 17, 2006
