CONFERENCE SCOPE
The sector of wireless communications is today
among the most dynamic ones of our global
economy, and it brings a major contribution to
the latters performance and productivity. The
extraordinary progress of wireless technologies
over the past decade, and their penetration
deeply into society has generated both a
technology push and a user demand, which meet in
the solicitation from researchers further
progress and more innovation. Not only higher
bandwidth, higher mobility, better QoS are
required at lower costs, but also novel
multimedia services in order to cope with new
societal needs. The integration of a variety of
radio access technologies and networks, from
cellular to local and personal or body area
networks, is thus in the near future projected to
provide individuals in the private or
professional sphere more and more ubiquitous and

The deadline for VANET 2006 has been extended to June 5, 2006.
ANNOUNCEMENT and CALL FOR PAPERS
VANET 2006
The Third ACM International Workshop on Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
In conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2006
September 29, 2006
Los Angeles, California, USA
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
http://www.sigmobile.org/workshops/vanet2006/
Important Dates:
Paper Submission Deadline: May 26, 2006 -- Extended to June 5, 2006
Notification of Acceptance: July 10, 2006
Camera-Ready Deadline: July 31, 2006
The goal of this workshop is to present and discuss recent advances
in the development of wireless vehicular ad hoc networking (VANET)
technologies. Based on short- to medium-range communication systems
(vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside), vehicular ad hoc
networks will enable vehicular safety applications including collision
and other safety warnings as well as non-safety applications like
real-time traffic congestion and routing information, high-speed
tolling, mobile infotainment, and many others.
The creation of high-performance, highly reliable, highly scalable,
and secure VANET technologies, though, presents an extraordinary
challenge to the wireless research community: a high degree of
communication reliability is needed under unfavorable channel
conditions. Clearly, the specificity of vehicular ad hoc networks in
terms of mobility behavior and applications scenarios and requirements
makes VANET research an exciting and demanding application- and
purpose-driven sub-discipline of wireless networking.
Following the successes of VANET 2004 held in Philadelphia and VANET
2005 held in Cologne, Germany, the Third ACM International Workshop on
Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks will be held in Los Angeles, September 29,
2006, in conjunction with MobiCom 2006.
Authors are invited to submit papers presenting new research related
to the theory or practice of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET).
All submissions must describe original research, not published or
currently under review for another workshop, conference, or
journal. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Safety and non-safety applications
- Roadside-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-vehicle communication
- Communication protocol design
- Channel modeling
- Modulation and coding
- Power control and scalability issues
- Multi-channel organization and operation
- Security issues and countermeasures
- Privacy issues
- Network management
- Simulation frameworks & real-world testbeds
VANETs present a highly active field of research, development,
standardization and field trials. Throughout the world, there are many
national/international projects in government, industry, and academia
devoted to VANETs, for example consortia like VSC (US), C2CCC (Europe)
and InternetITS (Japan), standardization efforts like IEEE 802.11p
(WAVE) and field trials like the large-scale Vehicle Infrastructure
Integration Program (VII) in the US.
Submission Instructions
All paper submissions will be handled electronically. Papers must be
in PDF format, no longer than 10 pages (single- or double-column), in
font no smaller than 11 points, and must fit properly on US
Letter-sized paper (8.5 inch x 11 inch) with reasonable
margins. Submitted papers will be judged based on their quality
through a double-blind review process, where the identities of the
authors are withheld from the reviewers. Detailed instructions for
paper submission will be posted on the VANET 2006 web page at:
http://www.sigmobile.org/workshops/vanet2006/.

2nd IEEE International Workshop on Heterogeneous Multi-Hop Wireless and
Mobile Networks 2006 (IEEE MHWMN'06)
Website: http://www.ececs.uc.edu/~qzeng/MHWMN2006/CFP.htm
In conjunction with IEEE MASS 2006 (www.ieee-mass.org), Vancouver,
Canada, October 9-12, 2006
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AIM and SCOPE
The traditional centralized wireless and mobile networks
are based on single-hop architecture and rely on the existing fixed
infrastructure such as base stations or access points. The proliferation
and deployment of radio access networks such as Wireless WANs, Wireless
LANs, and Wireless PANs with distinguishing characteristics of data rate,
coverage range, power, mobility, and prices will clearly lead to a need
for seamless and ubiquitous access across these various networks. Such an
integrated heterogeneous environment enables a user to access a particular
network depending upon the application needs and the types of radio access
networks (RANs) available (e.g., cellular network, ad hoc, WLAN, WPAN
etc). The heterogeneous multi-hop wireless and mobile networks, on the
other hand, provide unlimited mobility and greater flexibility but
introduce a number of challenges due to dynamic network topology. The
design of efficient and scalable protocols for existing multi-hop wireless
and mobile networks such as wireless and mobile ad hoc networks continue
to pose challenges at all the layers of networking stack. Therefore, it is
necessary to investigate a global heterogeneous architecture and services
that together provide seamless integration of single-hop networks (e.g.,
cellular, WLAN, WWAN) and multi-hop mobile ad hoc networks.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and
researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum for
discussion and technical presentations on the latest research and future
research directions in heterogeneous multi-hop wireless and mobile
networks. We are seeking original and previously unpublished research
papers addressing theoretical and application issues in heterogeneous
multi-hop wireless mobile networks.

CALL FOR PAPERS
4th European conference on Wireless Sensor Networks (EWSN 2007)
Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands
January 29-31, 2007
http://www.ewsn.org
================================================================================
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) - networks of tiny, autonomous sensor
devices equipped with wireless communication - are a topic of active
research in a number of different research communities, ranging from
hardware to applications. WSNs are characterized by a need to carefully
integrate functionalities traditionally considered to be separate in
order to achieve maximum efficiency, especially with respect to energy
consumption and management. Hence, a close interaction of research from
different backgrounds is required. Additionally, WSNs are evolving from
simple data transportation networks to functionally rich distributed
systems, also because actuators in the network have to be supported.
The goal of this conference is to create a forum where researchers with
different experience and background, from hardware to applications, can
discuss cross-layer integration, novel solutions for specific problems
and envisage the future development of WSN functionalities.
FULL PAPERS
We seek technical papers describing original, previously unpublished
research results. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Hardware for WSN: transceiver concepts, wakeup radio, antenna
design, system integration, process and cost of manufacturing,
battery technology, energy scavenging, miniaturization
* Communication protocols: MAC and link layer issues,
routing and transport protocols tailored for WSN, redundancy,
data aggregation, mobility support, gateways to fixed Internet
* Operating systems and programming abstractions: novel concepts
and tools for programming and debugging sensor nodes, high-level
programming abstractions
* Middleware and service infrastructures: (dynamic) configuration
and installation support, lookup of available functionalities,
group communication, QoS support, localization and synchronization
services, integrating WSN in existing middleware architectures
* Information processing: storage, querying, coding, compression,
fusion, aggregation, cooperative algorithms, event detection,
classification, tracking
* Security: primitives for appropriate cryptographic protocols,
secure system engineering
* Novel applications: requirements, experiences with real-world
applications, the role of WSN technology in realizing the visions
of Ubiquitous Computing and Ambient Intelligence
* Prototypes, field studies, and testbeds: novel sensor node
prototypes, measurements within sensor network testbeds, debugging
and testing
* Models: energy and resource consumption, applications, mobility,
and communication
For further information, please contact the program co-chairs.
POSTERS and DEMONSTRATIONS
The poster session will provide a forum for researchers to showcase
their work and obtain feedback on ongoing research from knowledgeable
conference attendees. A poster presentation can also be accompanied by a
demonstration to illustrate an application, technology, or platform.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
The highly selective conference will only accept for review original papers
that have not been previously published and are not currently under review
by another conference or journal. We will adopt a DOUBLE-BLIND review
process, where the identities of the paper authors are withheld from the
reviewers. Authors' names and their affiliations must not be revealed or
mentioned anywhere in the paper.
All submissions will be handled electronically via EDAS.
Submissions must be in Adobe PDF format. We require that they conform to the
Springer-Verlag LNCS style (see http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html).
The length of the manuscript should not exceed 16 pages, including text,
figures and references. Use of LATEX for typesetting is recommended.

CALL FOR PAPERS - LOCAN 2006
2nd International Workshop on Localized Communication
and Topology Protocols for Ad hoc Networks
in conjunction with MASS-2006 (www.ieee-mass.org)
Vancouver, Canada, October 9 - 12, 2006
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUBJECT AND SCOPE
-----------------
This workshop covers comprehensively the algorithmic issues in the hot
area of ad hoc and sensor networking. The design of data communication
techniques in multi-hop ad hoc networks has challenges at all layers
of communication. This workshop concentrates on the network layer
problems like data communication (routing, QoS-routing, geocasting,
multicasting, broadcasting, etc.) and topology control (neighbor
discovery, power adjustment, neighbor elimination, etc.).
Additionally, sensor networks are currently recognized as one of the
priority research areas by NSF. The area of sensor networking is
gaining momentum within the research community. This workshop will
address ongoing research on this field, including problems such as:
physical properties, sensor training, security through intelligent
node cooperation, medium access, sensor area coverage with random and
deterministic placement, object location, sensor position
determination, energy efficient broadcasting and activity scheduling,
routing, connectivity, data dissemination and gathering, sensor
centric quality of routing, temporal message ordering, path exposure,
tree reconfiguration, topology construction, and transport layer.
The main paradigm shift is to apply localized (or greedy) schemes as
opposed to existing protocols requiring global information. Localized
algorithms are distributed algorithms where simple local node
behaviour achieves a desired global objective. Localized protocols
provide scalable solutions, that is, solutions for wireless networks
with an arbitrary number of nodes, which is the main goal of this
plan. Sensor and rooftop/mesh networks, for instance, have hundreds or
thousands of nodes.
The main objective of the workshop is to present state of the art
research results on data communication and topology control in rapidly

AGNM 2006 - Deadline Extended to 6/8.
Second IEEE/IFIP International Workshop on Autonomic Grid Networking and
Management
October 26th-27th, 2006,
Herbert Park Hotel, Dublin, Ireland
Held as part of the IEEE/IFIP 2nd International Week
on Management of Networks and Services
Website: http://www.manweek2006.org/agnm/agnm.php
Autonomic Grid Computing (AGC) deals with self-managing and self-adapting
parallel and
distributed computing and associated data management on a distributed and
parallel Grid
of computational machines (PCs, servers, supercomputers, clusters) and
storage systems.
Grid computing is performed with the support of two major infrastructure
components:
1) a Grid middleware, such as Globus or UNICORE, which provides advanced
services
and supports Grid resource management, and 2) a fabric layer, which comprises
the underlying systems, such as computers, operating systems, and storage
systems.
A fabric layer component of particular importance is the network since all
distributed
services rely on the capabilities of the interconnecting network.
Recently, the Grid Community has started efforts to enhance the core
services of a
Grid middleware with autonomic capabilities so that the functions are
self-managing.
For example, an autonomic Grid resource allocation manager, instead of
statically
allocating or releasing resources to Grid applications, could do so
adaptively, or
self-heal to failures. However, the AGC and associated infrastructure (AGCI)
is geared
mainly towards computational (servers, supercomputers) and storage
resources. In other
words, the autonomic behavior of AGC and AGCI is a function of changes in
computational
and storage resources, but not networking resources. Hence there is need for
support
of Autonomic Grid Networks (AGN) that incorporates into the Grid the
following:
1) Network resources distributed across LAN, MAN and WAN, 2) Autonomic and
on-demand
functions (into various layers and components, such as a Grid middleware). The
autonomic functions may be conceptually similar to the ones provided in the
lower
layer (Layers 3, 2, 1) networks, such as self-control (dynamic rerouting,
such as
IGP rerouting), self-protection ([G]MPLS Fast Rerouting and Protection,
Sonet/SDH
protection switching), and self-healing (control and data plane
high-availability,
etc.). For example, in a typical Grid, the resource management architecture is
client-server oriented, where resources are typically registered to and pulled
from a particular service. In contrast, in an AGN, the resource management
architecture could be distributed and autonomous, where resource requests are
routed by autonomous and distributed AGN middleware components.
This one-day workshop offers a unique opportunity for researchers and
practitioners to
exchange ideas and experiences on problems, challenges, solutions and
potential future
research and development issues in this new field of Autonomic Grid
Networking and
Management. In addition to paper presentations, the workshop provides an
intimate
setting for discussion and debate through panels and group work.
The authors are encouraged to submit original papers on topics related to
the concepts
described above, including, but not limited to:
- Grid middleware enhancements for AGN
- Cluster middleware enhancements for AGN
- Network-aware autonomic Grid scheduling
- Network-aware autonomic Grid data and storage management
- Network-aware autonomic cluster scheduling and management
- AGN specific resource discovery
- AGN QoS (combined application and abstracted network QoS) management
- AGN routing
- AGN self-healing and self-protection
- AGN high-availability
- AGN monitoring and performance management
- AGN effects on HPC applications
- HPC applications (MPI and other) on AGN
- HPC applications (MPI and other) on MAN and WAN AGN
- Commercial applications (CRM, ERP, Financial, etc.) on AGN
- P2P AGN
