CALL FOR PAPERS
Submission Deadline: January 15, 2008
SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
The 1st International Workshop on Distributed Collaborative Sensors
Networks aims at providing opportunities to present the most recent
advances and future challenges in the field of distributed, wireless and
mobile communications in sensors networks, as they relate to
collaboration.
Wireless Sensors Networks constitute a significant current technology,
attracting considerable research interest from various disciplines.
Indeed, the wireless sensor technology is employed in emerging areas
with high potential for scientific research, being used for biomedical,
environmental or industrial applications. These applications generally
require intelligent dense environment monitoring which generates
important data volumes. Data collection and analysis need to deal with
cooperation and coordination topics in order to prolong network lifetime
and to provide useful, synthesized information for automation, decision
making and support. Topology control, by means of clusters or groups,
is another applied technique to overcome these challenging problems.
The 1st International Workshop on Distributed Collaborative Sensors
Networks will focus on the research of developing collaboration
infrastructures and solutions in the context of wireless sensors
networks, aiming to bring together researchers and practitioners in
these fields. In addition, the workshop will highlight recent
innovative research results which will strengthen the formal foundation
of this emerging area. This workshop is to be held as part of the 2008
International Symposium on Collaborative Technologies and Systems (CTS08).
Topics of Interest include (but are not limited to):
- Data and Resource Sharing in Sensors Networks
- Collaborative Data Management on Large Scale
- Distributed Sensors Architectures
- Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks
- Interfacing with Wireless/Mobile Systems
- Routing and Data Transport in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Group Collaboration in Sensor Networks

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
We invite papers reporting original and unpublished research work on
above and any other related topics from researchers in academia and
industry. Submission should include a cover page with authors' names,
affiliations, addresses, fax and phone numbers, and email addresses.
Include also an abstract of no more than 300 words along with a short
list of keywords.
Please submit an electronic copy of your full manuscript (not exceeding
10 pages in IEEE format, single-spaced, double-column, including
figures, tables and references). Electronic submissions will be
accepted only in PDF format, sent by email to the organizers.
Instructions for final manuscript format and requirements will be posted

June 14, 2008,
Santorini Island, Greece
http://cone.informatik.uni-freiburg.de/wewsn08/
_____________________________________________________________________
Overview
A typical wireless sensor network is expected to work without human
intervention for a long time period. Hence, energy is of paramount
importance in wireless sensor networks in order to achieve maximum
network lifetime. Due to the energy constraint of sensor devices,
wireless sensor network necessitates an energy-aware design to ensure
the longevity of the network. While most wireless sensor networks use
battery-operated computing and sensing devices, new technologies like
energy harvesting have been emerging and getting much attention in the
research community recently. In addition, each layer of the protocol
stack can employ various techniques to conserve energy while the
hardware designs of motes can focus on extending its lifetime. This
workshop intends to bring together the researchers working on

CALL FOR PAPERS
Wiley's Security and Communication Networks Journal
Special Issue on Security and Privacy Preservation in Vehicular
Communications
Aims & Goals
The advancement and wide deployment of wireless communication technologies
have
revolutionized human's lifestyles by providing the best convenience and
flexibility ever in
accessing the Internet services and various types of personal communication
applications.
Recently, car manufacturers and telecommunication industries gear up to
equip each car with the
latest technologies. The main vision is safety and commercial applications,
enabled by short to
medium range communication systems and/or networks (vehicle-vehicle or
vehicle-roadside). In
spite of the numerous value-added application scenarios, the VANETs
(Vehicular Ad-hoc
NETworks) come with their own set of challenges, especially in the aspects
of security and
privacy preservation. It is obvious that any malicious behavior of users,
such as a modification
and replay attack with respect to the disseminated messages, could be fatal
to the other users. In
addition, the issues on VANET security become more challenging due to the
unique features of
such network scenarios, including the high-speed mobility/large amount of
network entities (i.e.,
the vehicles). Furthermore, conditional privacy preservation must be
achieved in the sense that
the user related privacy information, including the driver's name, the
license plate, speed,
position, and traveling routes along with their relationships, has to be
protected; while the
authorities should be able to reveal the identities of message senders in
the event of a traffic
dispute, such as a crime/car accident scene investigation. Therefore, it is
critical to develop a
suite of elaborated and carefully designed security mechanisms for achieving
security,
conditional privacy preservation, and efficient IVC authentication in a
VANET before it can be
practically launched.
Scope of Contributions
Motivated by the above observations, this special issue is organized to
accommodate the most
state-of-the-art proposals and research studies on achieving secure and
privacy-preserving
vehicular communications. In particular, the research papers of the
following topics (but not
limited to) are highly solicited:
· Security features in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
· New/existing communication protocol/technology architecture for VANETs
· Location privacy preservation/ secure positioning
· Security in Vehicular Sensor Networks (VSNs)
· Power adjustment and topology control in VANETs
· Authentication and key management for Inter-Vehicle Communications (IVCs)
· Security trust model and threat models for VANETs
· Secure network middleware and protocol design for VANETs
· Commercial and industrial security services in VANETs
· VANETs on Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems
· Anomaly detection and compromised node revocation in VANETs
Submission
Only original and unpublished research papers will be considered in this
special issue. All
submissions will be reviewed based on technical merit and relevance.
Guidelines for prospective
authors can be found on-line at
http://www.interscience.wiley.com/journal/security). Prospective
authors should submit their paper online at
http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/scn. When
submitting the papers, the authors should make sure to choose the Manuscript

[Tccc] CFP: Special Issue of Computer Networks on Traffic classification and its applications to modern networks

Call for Papers
Special Issue of Computer Networks on Traffic
classification and its applications to modern networks
The evolution of the Internet in the last few
years has been characterized by dramatic changes
to the way users behave, interact and utilize the
network. The research community and many
network operators are responding to these changes
by designing and deploying traffic
measurement and classification architectures of
increasing complexity. In fact, the observation
of network traffic is at the core of many
fundamental network research, operation and
maintenance activities, such as the
implementation of Quality of Service guarantees, traffic
engineering, intrusion prevention and detection.
However, the rapid introduction of new
categories of applications such as network games
and peer-to-peer, the increasing presence of
malicious traffic, and the widespread use of
encryption techniques, make the measurement,
analysis and classification of Internet traffic a
challenging task. The research community is
therefore asked to tackle traffic classification
issues by focusing on the design of novel
algorithms capable of overcoming the limitations
of packet inspection techniques, which are
quickly becoming ineffective. Similarly, new
distributed classification architectures and realtime
traffic classification platforms must be defined
to cope with current and future high-speed
networks. Finally, the importance of preserving
the users privacy and the need to reduce the
amount of traffic that is collected, stored and
processed are increasingly seen as some of the
major issues that are limiting the progress in this area of research.
------------------ Scope of Contributions ---------------
This issue is devoted to cutting-edge research
achievements in the area of traffic classification,
dealing with topics such as novel classification
techniques, data privacy, distributed
classification architectures, and emerging
applications of traffic classifiers. We solicit papers
that present original and unpublished work on
topics including, but not limited to, the
following:
Traffic classification algorithms and techniques
Platforms for on-line, real-time traffic classification
Comparisons among traffic classification techniques
Privacy-preserving classification techniques
Identification and classification of encrypted traffic
Impact of sampling on network traffic classification
Applications of traffic classification
Data-reduction techniques for traffic traces
Anonymization tools and their effects on traffic classification
Interfaces and architectures for the storage of traffic traces
------------------- Manuscript Submission -----------
Prospective authors are invited to prepare their
papers according to the Guide to Authors
available at http://www.elsevier.com/locate/comnet, and submit to

3rd IEEE Workshop on advanced EXPerimental activities ON WIRELESS networks &
systems --- EXPONWIRELESS 2008
http://nrl.iis.sinica.edu.tw/EXPONWIRELESS08
23 June, Newport Beach, CA, USA
in conjunction with IEEE WoWMoM 2008 (http://wowmom08.ics.uci.edu/)
CALL FOR PAPERS
---------------
Wireless networks represent a challenging and ever growing research area. In
these systems
the interactions among the different network layers are very complex and
their effects on
the overall performance are not easy to accurately identify. Additionally,
many simplifying
assumptions considered in analytical studies do not hold in practise.
Experimental activities
involving the development of systems and device prototypes and the
collection and analysis
of measurements from actual networks can provide insight on the behaviour of
such systems
in realistic environments, which can be beneficial for understanding how
cross-layer
interactions impact in practise the overall performance, for deriving
realistic simulation
models, for analyzing particular phenomena and evaluating algorithms and
protocols, and for
exploring the design choices in building actual wireless networks. Such
activities are
pivotal for researchers, developers, service managers and providers, as well
as for end users
involved in the evolution of these networks.
After successful events in the last years, EXPONWIRELESS 2008 aims to again
bring
together all the aspects related to experimental activities on wireless
networks,
creating a forum where researchers, vendors, providers and users can
exchange ideas on
past experience, current requirements, and future visions, that are
important for the
development of new protocols, algorithms, devices and systems.
High quality papers discussing original and innovative experimental
activities
on wireless networks are solicited for submission. The main topics of the
workshop
are (but are not limited to):
* Algorithms for self-configuration and self-management of beyond-3G systems
* Deployment and experience with multi-radio multi-channel wireless mesh
networks
* Device prototypes for wireless BANs, PANs, LANs, and MANs
* Differentiated services in wireless multimedia networks
* Energy-efficient protocols and power management algorithms
* Experiences/lessons from recent wireless testbed deployments

CALL FOR PAPERS
--- POLICY 2008 ---
2008 IEEE International Workshop on Policies
for Distributed Systems and Networks
2-4 June 2008
Palisades, NY, USA
http://www.policy-workshop.org/2008
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The policy workshop aims to bring together researchers and
practitioners working on policy-based systems across a wide range of
application areas including policy-based networking, privacy and
security management, storage area networking, and enterprise systems.
POLICY 2008 is the 9th in a series of successful workshops which
since 1999 have provided a forum for discussion and collaboration
between researchers, developers and users of policy-based systems.
This year, in addition to the latest research results from the
communities working in any area of policy-based management and
computing, we encourage contributions on policy-based techniques in
support of management and security of all types of wireless networks:
cellular, Wi-Fi, Mobile Ad Hoc, hybrids, etc.
POLICY 2008 invites unpublished novel contributions on all aspects of
policy-based management. This year, as part of the technical program
we also plan a special session devoted to the demonstrations of
innovative policy based systems. Papers must describe original work
and must not have been accepted or submitted for publication
elsewhere. Submitted papers will be evaluated for technical
contribution, originality, and significance.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
POLICY MODELS AND LANGUAGES:
* Abstract models and languages for policy specification
* Representing policies in XML, RDF, and OWL
* Semantic Web rule languages for policy reasoning
* Policy standards, their extensions and refinements
* Formal semantics of policies
* Relationships between policies in IT processes and devices
or across multiple applications
* Methodologies/tools for discovering, specifying, analyzing,
refining, evaluating and visualizing policy
* Models of policy negotiation
* Representation of belief, trust, and risk in policies
POLICY APPLICATIONS:
* Application of policies for autonomic computing, QoS adaptation,
and security
* Application of policies for identity and privacy management
* Business rules and organizational modeling
* Identity management
* Personalization
* Risk adaptive policy systems
* Database policies
* Policy applications in on-demand, utility based computing
* Resource virtualization and policy-based collaboration
* Case studies of applying policy-based management
POLICIES IN WIRELESS NETWORKS:
* Service management in mobile ad hoc networks
* Policy systems for small devices
* Policy-based spectrum management
* Privacy and security
* Policies in location based services
* Context-aware policies in pervasive and mobile computing
------------------------------------------------
PAPER or DEMO SUBMISSION
------------------------------------------------
Papers under review elsewhere must NOT be submitted to Policy 2008. Paper or
demo submissions will be evaluated on the basis of their technical merit and
novelty. For System Demo, of particular interest are systems that illustrate
research contributions and innovative applications of policy based
technologies.
Policy 2008 invites contributions in the form of either:
* Technical papers (max. length 8 pages).
* Short position papers describing preliminary systems or experimental
results (max. length 4 pages).
Please check out http://www.policy-workshop.org/2008 for details.
