CALL FOR PAPERS
Progress in computing and (wireless) communication technologies allow
mobile users to permanently communicate with other persons or to use
services and applications that might even have been designed for mobile
users. Mobile Applications and services require technical solutions on
various levels such as wireless network technologies, communication
architectures and protocols supporting mobility of users and devices,
middleware to support security and flexibility, as well as applications
that are adaptive and context sensitive, although or because mobile
devices have usually limited resources. The target of the workshop is to
discuss issues and problems related to future applications and services
based on mobile and wireless technologies. This multi-disciplinary
workshop aims to bring together researchers, who are active in these
different research areas.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Future mobile applications,
e.g. medical applications, multimedia, mobile learning, telematics
- Mobile application support such as coding, content distribution and
adaptation
- User interaction for mobile devices
- Ubiquitous, pervasive, and context-aware computing and communications
- Location-based services
- Mobile Peer-to-Peer
- Security including trust and authentication
- Runtime adaptation
- Software development for mobile devices
- Wireless access networks
- Mobile ad-hoc and wireless mesh networks
- Sensor networks
- Wireless experimentation and test networks
- Simulation methods and tools for wireless wireless networks
- Mobility management, roaming, and handover support
- Quality-of-Service and traffic engineering
- Transport protocols and congestion control in wireless networks
- Cross-layer protocol design
- Energy-efficient protocol mechanisms
Authors are encouraged to submit full papers describing original,
previously unpublished, results, not currently under review by another
conference or journal, addressing original research. All papers will be
reviewed and accepted papers will appear in the workshop proceedings
(with ISBN number). Submitted papers should have no more than 12 pages,
according to the Springer LNCS formatting standard, available at
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html.
SUBMISSION
Paper submissions should be made electronically via
http://www.webchairing.com/ercim.

IPTV and Emerging Applications over World Wide Web
Call-For-Papers (Submission deadline: February 26, 2007)
Jointly held with the 16th International World Wide Web Conference in Banff,
Alberta, Canada on May 8, 2007
With the proliferation of multimedia content in a broad spectrum of
application areas, such as Voice over IP, home entertainment, and
distributed on-line gaming, a clear understanding of multimedia applications
over World Wide Web has become increasingly important. YouTube, for example,
is reported to have about 100 million short videos streamed a day and incurs
bandwidth cost on the order of a million dollars a month. Internet TV (IPTV)
is a novel Internet application and represents a good opportunity of
integrating video, voice, and data onto a single IP network. It has the
promise to offer viewers an innovative set of choices and controls over the
TV content. Several major U.S. telecommunication companies have big
investments to replace the copper lines in their networks with fiber optic
cables in order to provide sufficient capacity to deliver a large number of
TV channels to their residential customers. Many content providers (e.g.
CBS, AOL, Disney,
etc) have begun to offer video streaming or download services over Internet.
According to a new report published by Informa Telecoms & Media, the number
of IPTV subscribers will jump tenfold by 2010.
Multimedia (video, audio and data) services over WWW face many technology
challenges and scalability/quality problems. In the past few years, many new
technologies have been proposed (e.g. P2P, caching, QoS, multi-layer
encoding, etc.) and implemented to address the challenges. Building upon our
success of the IPTV workshop last year (jointly held with WWW'06), this
workshop intends to bring together researchers and developers from industry
and academy to discuss the technological advances and challenges in
providing multimedia services over WWW.
Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
o Multimedia middleware platforms
o Wireless multimedia services
o Performance analysis of multimedia systems
o Peer to peer systems
o Content distribution technologies for multimedia systems
o Voice over IP, Instant Messaging, and distributed on-line gaming
o New service infrastructure for IPTV and multimedia
o New multimedia applications using WWW
o Digital Home Entertainment
o Experience reports for IPTV and multimedia services

The Sixth Annual Med-Hoc-Net 2007 Workshop
*** MEDITERRANEAN AD HOC NETWORKING ***
June 13-15 2007, Corfu, Greece
http://www.ionio.gr/~okon/medhocnet07
********************************************************************
Ad hoc networks have attracted the attention of the research community in
the last several years. By now, some of the early fundamental issues and
challenges of ad hoc networking have been clearly assessed, while new ones
emerge as a result of the ever expanding application domain of ad hoc
networking. Current emphasis of ad hoc networking includes application
scenarios (road safety, disaster recovery, sensors and actuators, etc.),
autonomous organization and operation, optimization and control, service
creation and support and middleware. Moreover, wireless mesh networking is
emerging as an "ad hoc spin-off" aimed at extending and integrating the
multi-hop paradigm with more traditional networking, which poses new and
exciting technical challenges.
Med-Hoc-Net 2007 is an established annual international workshop aiming to
serve as a forum where researchers from academia, research labs and the
industry from all over the world, meet to share ideas, views, results, and
experiences in the field of ad hoc networking. Anything from theoretical and
experimental achievements, to innovative ad hoc systems, prototyping
efforts, and case studies is of interest to the Med-Hoc-Net community.

CALL FOR PAPERS
First International Workshop on
Mobile Opportunistic Networking
MobiOpp 2007
sponsored by ACM/SIGMOBILE
in conjunction with ACM MobiSys 2007
http://cnd.iit.cnr.it/mobiopp07
jointly organized by
IIT-CNR, Italy
UCLA, USA
June 11, 2007
Puerto Rico, USA
Opportunistic Networks are one of the most exciting evolutions of the
legacy
Mobile Ad hoc Networking (MANET) paradigm, in which the assumption of
complete paths between data senders and receivers is released.
Opportunistic
Networks enable users' communication in disconnected environments, in
which
island of connected devices appear, disappear, and reconfigure
dynamically.
The network is thus extremely dynamic, and is formed by the evolving
contacts among mobile devices, and among connected clouds of devices. In
this view, legacy-Internet connectivity is just a particular
connectivity
opportunity. Opportunistic Networks thus encompass the features and
methods
of delay or disruption tolerant networks (DTN). They are very
suitable to
support the pervasive networking scenario, in which a huge number of
devices
carried by users and embedded in the environment communicate wirelessly
without requiring any pre-existing infrastructure. By enabling end-to-
end
communication without requiring complete paths, Opportunistic
Networks are
much closer to real pervasive networking scenarios, with respect to the
legacy MANET paradigm.
Original contributions are solicited, related to systems and protocols
design, development and analysis, in all areas related to Opportunistic
Networking. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Architectures for opportunistic networks
* (Killer) applications for opportunistic networks
* Middleware services in opportunistic networks
* Dissemination and replication techniques for opportunistic networks
* Resource management techniques for opportunistic networks
* Transport and reliability issues in opportunistic networks

CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE INFOCOM 2007 HIGH-SPEED NETWORKS WORKSHOP

Sponsored by

IEEE ComSoc Technical Committee on High-Speed Networking (TCHSN)
IEEE ComSoc Optical Networking Technical Committee (ONTC)
Several e-Science applications have already demonstrated the need for
agile networks operating well beyond 100 Gbps. Moreover, current
trends point towards the need for a sustained terabits/sec end-to-end
throughput and unprecedented levels of scalability to accommodate the
requirements of emerging applications in a broad range of domains,
including entertainment, computational monitoring and steering,
multi-scale simulation and combustion modeling, remote
instrumentation, and network-based visualization. Several attempts
have been made to address emergent bandwidth needs by deploying larger
capacities in the network core. Increasing physical-layer transmission
speeds, however, has not yielded dramatic increases in end-to-end
user-level throughputs. Moreover, the limitations of current network
protocols and traffic engineering frameworks have proven to be a
serious impediment to large-scale deployment of distributed
bandwidth-intensive applications. To overcome these limitations, there
is a critical need for novel "clean-state" approaches which transcend
the traditional methodologies, network architectures and protocols
used today .
This workshop is designed to provide a unique forum to explore new
frontiers in the area of ultra high-speed and high-performance
networks, not constrained by the features and limitations of current
networks, with a particular focus on enabling large-scale distributed
e-Science applications. The objective is to facilitate discussion and
exchange of ideas among members research community centered on the
design, validation and deployment of ultra-high speed network
architectures and protocols to support the end-to-end requirements of
bandwidth-intensive applications in a transparent and optimal manner.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Innovative "clean-slate" network architectures for next generation
ultra-high speed networks
* Switching technologies including packet, burst and circuit switching
* Ultra high-speed transport protocols
* Novel approaches and strategies for highly secure ultra-high speed
networks, protocols and systems
* Dynamic provisioning in ultra high-speed optical networks
* Control and signaling plane technologies (GMPLS, UNI, NNI, etc.)
* Application optimized network middleware
* Novel protocols and mechanisms for large-volume data transfers over
long distances
* High-speed I/O and storage systems
* Remote visualizations and instrumentation design and tools
* Remote computational monitoring and steering tools and mechanisms

Scope
Multi-hop wireless Ad Hoc and sensor networks are self-organizing systems
formed by co-operating nodes within communication range of each other that
form temporary networks. Ad hoc wireless networks allow anywhere, anytime
network connectivity with complete lack of control, ownership, and
regulatory influence. The last few years have witnessed a wealth of
research ideas on ad hoc and sensor networks that are moving rapidly into
commercialization and standardization. Such networks can be randomly and
rapidly deployed and reconfigured and easily tailored to specific
applications including entertainment, civilian, military, etc. Moreover,
an ad hoc architecture is highly robust to node failure and can provide a
high-level of fault tolerance due to nodal redundancy and its distributed
nature. Furthermore, energy efficiency can be achieved through multi-hop
routing communication. Bandwidth reuse can also benefit from dividing the
single long range hop to multiple short hops with each hop having a
shorter range. Several challenges face are standing in the way to
achieving ubiquitous deployment of ad hoc and sensor networks. These
include variable topology, device heterogeneity, limited power supply and
the lack of effective energy-efficient design, lack of QoS and application
support, etc.
This symposium aims at providing a forum for sharing ideas among
researchers and practitioners working on state-of-the-art solutions to the
challenges above. We are seeking papers that describe original and
unpublished contributions addressing various aspects of ad hoc and sensor
networks. You are invited to submit original technical papers covering but
not limited to the following topics. Please visit the mail IEEE Globecom
