CALL FOR PAPERS
Fourth IEEE International Conference on
Mobile Ad-hoc and Sensor Systems (MASS 2007)
Pisa, October 8-11, 2007
http://cnd.iit.cnr.it/mass2007
Sponsored by IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, IEEE Technical Committee on
Distributed Processing, and IEEE Technical Committee on Simulation
in-cooperation with ACM SIGMOBILE
**** Submission Deadline --- March 31, 2007 ****
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wireless multi-hop communication is envisioned in multiple scenarios
where network nodes communicate via other network nodes: conferences,
hospitals, battlefields, rescue operations, environment control,
cars-to-cars, and monitoring scenarios. Wireless mesh networks have
been applied as alternatives for providing Internet access in remote
business and residential areas. Wireless sensor networks are being
deployed for several industrial control processes and for monitoring
environment. This conference aims to address multi-hop ad-hoc and
sensor network systems, covering topics ranging from technology
issues up to the applications aspects.
Original contributions are solicited in all areas of (mobile) ad hoc
networks and sensor systems. Topics include, but not limited to:
- physical layer impact on higher level protocols
- MAC protocols for ad-hoc and sensor networks (802.11, 802.15.4, UWB)
- Provisioning of wireless QoS in terms of bandwidth and delay assurance
- Routing protocols (unicast, multicast, broadcast, geocast) and
routing metrics
- Data transport in wireless ad hoc and sensor networks
- Power-aware and energy-efficient design
- Topology construction and coverage maintenance
- Cross layer design and optimization
- Incentives and game theoretic approaches in wireless ad-hoc networks
- Localization and synchronization in wireless sensor networks
- Data gathering, fusion, and dissemination in wireless sensor
- Reliability, security, and trustworthiness issues in ad hoc and
sensor networks
- Operating system and middleware support
- Measurements and practical experience from experimental systems and
test-beds
- Modeling, analysis and performance evaluation
- Mesh networking
- Delay tolerant networks and opportunistic networking
- Handoff and mobility management and seamless internetworking
- Peer-to-peer, overlay, and content distribution wireless ad hoc networks

Submission Guidelines:
----------------------
All submissions must be full papers in .pdf or .ps (PostScript)
format. Papers must be uploaded to EDAS by March 31, 2007, and must
not exceed 10 single-spaced, two-column pages using at least 11 point
size fonts on 8.5 x 11 inch pages. Detailed submission instructions
will be published in due time on the conference website
http://cnd.iit.cnr.it/mass2007
--------------------
Workshops Proposals
--------------------
Proposals for full day workshops are solicited. Selections will be
made considering the expertise and experience of the workshop
organizers and the relevance of the topic to the central theme of the

UbiComp2007 Call for Papers
---------------------------
Important Dates
---------------
9 March - Paper submissions due (23:59 PST)
25 May - Accept/reject notifications
29 June - Camera ready papers due
16-19 September - UbiComp2007 in Innsbruck
Call for Papers
---------------
UbiComp 2007 (http://www.ubicomp2007.org/) will be the Ninth International
Conference on Ubiquitous Computing, held in Innsbruck, Austria, on 16-19
September 2007.
UbiComp 2007 invites original, high-quality research papers in the areas of
ubiquitous, mobile, embedded, and handheld computing. The conference
provides
a forum for original research that enables new capabilities, appropriate
security and privacy, improved user experiences, and simplified and
powerful
development and deployment practices. In addition, we are interested in
studies of existing and emerging technologies, everyday use of
technologies,
and insightful commentary on the state of the field.
Researchers are encouraged to submit papers on the following topics:
* Inferring the state of the user, such as location, activity, intentions,
resources, and capabilities in the past, present, and future
* Developing ubicomp systems, including representations, architecture,
middleware, resource management, and service discovery
* Embedding computation for new user interfaces, assistive technologies,
communication, novel sensors, intelligent environments, wearable computing,
and continuous monitoring and actuation
* Building ubicomp systems for health, gaming, socializing, and other
applications
* Ensuring user trust through privacy and security
* Understanding ubicomp and its consequences through conceptual models,
hard-won experience, user studies, business scenarios, and real deployments
UbiComp has a history of being a very selective conference, and there is no
desire to reduce expectations on quality. In an effort to enhance the
breadth
of the conference, we aim to increase the number of accepted full papers to
approximately 40 for this year, which is up from 30 last year and 22 the
year
before. Presentations will be scheduled in a dualtrack format. The
conference
will institute a process for nominating and selecting awards for best paper
and presentations at the conference.
Submissions will be peer-reviewed by members of the program committee
and by
selected expert reviewers. Papers will be evaluated on the basis of
originality, significance of contribution, technical correctness, overall
appeal to the general UbiComp reader, and presentation. Papers submitted
must
not have been previously published nor currently under review for any
publication with an ISBN, ISSN, or DOI number. If submitted work may appear
to overlap with the authors' previous work, the authors should email the PC
chairs (pcchairs(a)ubicomp2007.org) directly to explain how the new work is
different. All reviewers will be instructed to keep submissions
confidential,
although submissions must be publishable by the cameraready deadline.
Accepted papers will be published in Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer
Science (LNCS), and all submissions should be formatted according to their
guidelines
(http://www.springer.com/east/home/computer/lncs?SGWID=5-164-7-72376-0).
Misformatted submissions, or those longer than 18 pages, are subject to
rejection without review. Shorter submissions will not be penalized, and
each
submission's length should be appropriate for its content. One author from
each accepted paper will be required to attend the conference to present
their work.
Paper submissions must be anonymized to facilitate blind review. Authors
are
encouraged to take care throughout the entire document to minimize
references
that may reveal the identity of the authors or their institutions. Relevant
references to an author's previous research should not be suppressed but
instead referenced in a neutral way.
Papers should be submitted as PDF files through PCS at
https://precisionconference.com/~ubicomp.
A PDF version of this CfP is also available
(http://www.ubicomp2007.org/fileadmin/files/UbiComp2007-CfP-Main.pdf).

Call for Papers
HealthNet 2007
The 1st International Workshop on
Systems and Networking Support for
Healthcare and Assisted Living Environments
In conjunction with
MobiSys 2007
June 11, 2007
Puerto Rico, USA
http://healthnet07.cs.uiuc.edu
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
------------------------------------------------------------
WORKSHOP SCOPE:
================
As the world's population grows older, healthcare and
high-tech companies are joining forces. New technologies are
being used to provide improved support for elderly and home
bound people in their homes and in assisted living
environments. The overall goal of these initiatives is to
improve the quality of life by providing customized support
to people in need of assistance. The main challenge is to
provide this support according to the user's own specific
situation in a non-intrusive and respectful way. These new
technologies enable the automation of the observation and
support for elderly and home bound people through the use of
sensors, actuators, distributed intelligence, databases,
ubiquitous connectivity and friendly adaptive interfaces,
all connected mainly via a variety of wireless networking
technologies. The ultimate goal is a system that can adapt
to the users needs, helping them get through their daily
routine in a way that is effective in providing support
where needed without making them feel humiliated by
excessive attention. To provide such support, it will be
necessary to combine efforts from many areas of computer
science, including networking, distributed systems,
security, data management, HCI, AI and middleware.
Given the inherent use of mobile and wireless communication
and the need for comprehensive distributed systems as well
as the multi-disciplinary nature of solutions for healthcare
and assisted living environments, the goal of HealthNet is
to provide a forum for the cross-area interactions that will
be necessary for successful systems and applications. The
specific focus of HealthNet will be on understanding what it
takes to provide effective systems and communication support
for healthcare and assisted living environments. Although
the systems and networking community is very good at
providing effective solutions to satisfying application
requirements, they require input from experts in other
disciples, including HCI, middleware, security, privacy and
social networking, to provide a more accurate understanding
of the specific requirements for these
environments. Therefore, HealthNet aims to attract
researchers working on cross-disciplinary projects, with a
focus on understanding and supporting the requirements of
these complex applications.
Authors are invited to submit papers presenting new research
related to the support of healthcare and assisted living
environments. All submissions must describe original
research, not published or currently under review for
another workshop, conference, or journal.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Enabling technologies
* Service and device discovery
* Security and privacy
* Reliability and fault tolerance
* User and device localization
* Resource management architecture
* User data management
* Middleware for heterogeneous networks
* Mobility and connectivity management
* Cross-layer system architecture design
* Human-centered Computing
* Task and behavior analysis
* Impact of user interface design on system design and
management
* Test-beds and simulations environments

CALL FOR PAPERS
First International Workshop on
Mobile Opportunistic Networking
MobiOpp 2007
http://cnd.iit.cnr.it/mobiopp07
co-located with ACM MobiSys 2007
jointly organized by
IIT-CNR, Italy
UCLA, USA
June 11, 2007
Puerto Rico, USA
Opportunistic Networks are one of the most exciting evolutions of the legacy
Mobile Ad hoc Networking (MANET) paradigm, in which the assumption of
complete paths between data senders and receivers is released. Opportunistic
Networks enable users’ communication in disconnected environments, in which
island of connected devices appear, disappear, and reconfigure dynamically.
The network is thus extremely dynamic, and is formed by the evolving
contacts among mobile devices, and among connected clouds of devices. In
this view, legacy-Internet connectivity is just a particular connectivity
opportunity. Opportunistic Networks thus encompass the features and methods
of delay or disruption tolerant networks (DTN). They are very suitable to
support the pervasive networking scenario, in which a huge number of devices
carried by users and embedded in the environment communicate wirelessly
without requiring any pre-existing infrastructure. By enabling end-to-end
communication without requiring complete paths, Opportunistic Networks are
much closer to real pervasive networking scenarios, with respect to the
legacy MANET paradigm.
Original contributions are solicited, related to systems and protocols
design, development and analysis, in all areas related to Opportunistic
Networking. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Architectures for opportunistic networks
* (Killer) applications for opportunistic networks
* Middleware services in opportunistic networks

AD HOC NETWORKS JOURNAL (ELSEVIER)
Special Issue on
BIO-INSPIRED COMPUTING AND COMMUNICATION IN
WIRELESS AD HOC AND SENSOR NETWORKS
Submission deadline: February 28, 2007
_____________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________
A wide spectrum of applications and services is currently being
developed and designed to be built on top of various heterogeneous
and significantly challenging network architectures such as wireless
mesh, mobile ad hoc and wireless sensor/actor networks. These
heterogeneous wireless communication architectures are mainly
characterized by heterogeneous and resource-constrained nodes,
restricted communication channels,highly dynamic environments,lack of
any fixed infrastructure, and large scale network deployments that
strongly vary in their density.These features and challenges,in turn,
mandate intelligent, adaptive, autonomic,coordinated,self-organizing,
and efficient processing and communication approaches to handle the
complexity of these ambitious wireless systems.
The turn to nature has brought us many unforeseen great concepts.
Natural biological systems intrinsically possess and exploit similar
features by providing elegant and extremely efficient solutions for
the challenges and tasks faced in their natural operation. It is of
extreme importance to bridge the communication technologies with
biological sciences and capture the analogy between these two
distinct disciplines. To this end, solution strategies inspired by
the biological systems have been recently proposed to address the
challenges of many computing and communication systems.
This special issue is dedicated to capture the state-of-the-art and
the recent advances in the area of biologically-inspired computing
and communication in heterogeneous wireless architectures such as
wireless mesh networks, mobile ad hoc networks, and wireless sensor
and actor networks. Papers describing mathematical models,algorithms,
protocols, tools, evaluation methods, and experimental studies of
computing and communication architectures that are inspired by and
derived from biological systems are solicited for this special issue.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
* Bio-inspired mathematical models, methods and tools
* Biological and bio-inspired computing, data processing algorithms
* Joint bio-inspired data processing and communication
* Embryonics-based fault-tolerant computing and communication
* Bio-inspired network and communication algorithms and protocols
* Novel applications and services inspired by biological systems
* Experimental studies of bio-inspired computing and communications
* Bio-inspired topology control and network reconfiguration methods
* Bio-inspired localization, synchronization, mobility approaches
* Evolution and self-healing of network architectures and protocols
* Immune and self-healing network defense and information security
* Bio-inspired nano-scale and molecular computing and communication
* Bio-inspired distributed control and sensing of networked wearable
and implantable medical devices
