CALL FOR PAPERS
2nd ACM International Workshop on Performance Monitoring, Measurement,
and Evaluation of Heterogeneous Wireless and Wired Networks- PM2HW2N'07
http://www.i3a.uclm.es/pm2hw2n07/
To be held in conjunction with 10th ACM/IEEE International Symposium on
Modeling, Analysis and Simulation
of Wireless and Mobile Systems - MSWiM'07
http://www.cs.unibo.it/projects/mswim2007/
October 22 - 26, 2007
Chania, Crete Island, Greece
**** DEADLINE FOR PAPER SUBMISSION: June, 1st ****
SCOPE:
Wireless networks, including ad hoc, sensor, along with ubiquitous, have
witnessed over the past few years their fastest growth period and have
become increasingly complex. Nonetheless, their performance evaluation
and analysis have been conducted mostly through software simulations
(e.g. using ns-2 or OPNET tools). Very recently, some research efforts
have been directed towards measuring real-world commercial and
experimental networks; constructing models based on real-world data and
using prototypes to more realistically and comprehensively evaluate the
suggested solutions and more specifically validate the assumptions and
the conclusions reached via the simulation approach.
The monitoring, measurements, and evaluation of heterogeneous wired and
wireless mobile networks poses a new set of unique challenges due to the
unique inherent properties of these systems and due to the
characteristics of the wireless transmission medium.
The aim of this workshop, whose 1st edition was held in 2006 in
Torremolinos (Spain), is to bring together scientists, engineers, and
practitioners to share and exchange their experiences, discuss
challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on all
aspects of performance measurements, monitoring, and evaluation of
heterogeneous wired and wireless mobile networks, including, wireless ad
hoc, sensor, and ubiquitous networks.
A detailed list on the workshop topics can be found at the PM2HW2N07's
site: http://www.i3a.uclm.es/pm2hw2n07/

SUBJECT AND SCOPE
-----------------
This workshop covers comprehensively the algorithmic issues in the hot area
of ad hoc and sensor networking. In particular, sensor networks are
currently recognized as one of the priority research areas (for example, a
multi-disciplinary program on sensors and sensor networks was launched in
2003 at the US National Science Foundation) and research activities are
booming recently.
This workshop concentrates on network layer problems like data communication
(routing, QoS-routing, geocasting, multicasting, broadcasting, etc.) and
topology control (neighbor discovery, power adjustment, neighbor
elimination, etc.). The main paradigm shift is to apply localized (or
greedy) schemes as opposed to existing protocols requiring global
information. Localized algorithms are distributed algorithms where simple
local node behavior achieves a desired global objective. Localized protocols
provide scalable solutions, that is, solutions for wireless networks with an
arbitrary number of nodes, which is the main goal of this plan. Sensor and
rooftop/mesh networks, for instance, have hundreds or thousands of nodes.
The objective of the workshop is to present state of the art research
results on data communication and topology control in rapidly growing area
of ad hoc and sensor networks, with emphasizes on localized techniques.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Medium access control
* Analytical, mobility and validation models
* Hybrid networks and wireless Internet
* Security in ad hoc networks
* Data management, query processing, and data delivery in sensor networks
* Unicast routing, multicasting, and broadcasting
* Geocasting and anycasting
* Energy-efficient and bandwidth-efficient protocols
* Quality of service in medium access control and routing
* Topology construction and maintenance
* Neighborhood discovery and mobility management
* Localized protocols for duty-cycled sensor networks
* Sensor area coverage problems
* Auto-configuration and network formation protocols and algorithms
* Relative positioning algorithms
* Lower bounds on information exchange required for localized solutions
* Network graph properties supporting localized protocols
* Worst and average case analysis on the deviation from optimal solutions

Betreff: [Tccc] WiMob'07: Special Session on Mobility Models
Datum: Mon, 21 May 2007 21:02:31 -0400
Von: Fabrice Valois <fabrice.valois(a)insa-lyon.fr>
An: tccc(a)cs.columbia.edu
CFP for IEEE WiMOB’2007
Special Session on Mobility Models for Mobile Ad hoc
Networks, Mesh networks, Wireless networks and NEMO networks
The session is a part of the 3rd IEEE International Conference on
Wireless and Mobile Computing, Networking and Communications
“WiMob 2007”
http://www.gel.usherbrooke.ca/WiMob2007/, which will take place in
Crowne Plaza Hotel, White Plains, New York, USA, from October 8-10, 2007.
Motivations:
Because WiMob'07 conference is focused on wireless networks and because
the performances of wireless networks are strongly linked to the
mobility models used, we propose a special session focusing only on
mobility models.
This session is focused on these kind of wireless networks:
- MANET: Mobile ad hoc networks where whole the topology is dynamic
- Mesh networks and classical wireless networks offering an
infrastructure
topologies allowing fixed and mobile Internet for the end user.
- Network Mobility (NEMO) networks offering new kind of dynamic topology
where not only the user is mobile but also the network
These kind of networks should deal with mobility: user mobility, group
mobility, etc. But, what is really mobility? how mobility influences the
performances? how to define new mobility models? etc.
Scope of the Contributions for Mobility Models in the case of MANET,
Mesh Networks, Wireless Networks and NEMO (include but are not limited
to the following):
- Performance evaluation of mobility models
- New mobility models to mimic particular behavior
- Theoretical aspects of mobility models
- Theoretical frameworks for mobility
- Mobility models based on realistic traces
- Mobility management
- Networking protocols and mobility models
- Tools for mobility models (generators, integrators to simulators,..)
- etc.
Authors are invited to submit a complete technical paper of their
original work. Maximum length for submissions is 8 double column pages
in IEEE format. The preferred submission format is PDF.
Accepted papers will be published as regular paper in the proceedings
of WiMob 2007 and will be available in IEEE Xplore.
Session Chair: Fabrice Valois, INSA Lyon, France
Session Co-chair: Thomas Noel, University of Strasbourg, France
Submissions should be sent attached by email to the session chairs at:

Special issue of IEEE Network Magazine on
*******************************************
Internet Scalability: Properties and Evolution
*********************************************
The modern Internet is a large-scale distributed system composed of many
complex, interoperating sub-systems: traffic, topology, routing,
addressing, etc. With its continued growth, the scaling of these
different sub-systems becomes an increasingly important issue, as does
the nature of the complex interactions between them. A detailed
investigation/study of these interactions is crucial to foresee the
future of the Internet, and ensure its smooth evolution.
The current Internet architecture suffers from scalability problems
caused by a number of factors. Growth in traffic and topological size,
multi-homing, and interdomain routing dynamics are some examples of
factors stressing the current infrastructure. Trends in multi-homing
that might impact the behavior of the traffic depend on the evolution of
addressing, like the deployment and use of IPv6, or nodes mobility. The
way business relationships are defined between domains affects the
spread of routing information, and in turn the flow of the traffic.
Applications determine between which hosts traffic is exchanged.
Understanding any of these aspects requires understanding the
relationships between all of them.
To add to this confusion, it is now understood that different subsystems
of the Internet depend on each other in unexpected ways. For instance,
traffic surges due to worm attacks are able to partially disrupt
routing. By studying the large-scale properties of the Internet (as
opposed to the behavior of isolated sub-systems), we will better
understand the issues that are of significant importance for its future.
Scope of special issue:
***********************
The goal of this special issue is to discuss all aspects that have an
impact on the large-scale behavior of the Internet, with a focus on
their interactions. To properly understand how the Internet will evolve,
we believe that a global systemic view of the Internet is necessary.
Submitted papers should thus bring significant insight into how
different aspects of the Internet impact its global behavior.
The purpose of this special issue of IEEE network magazine is to publish
both state-of-the-art and prospective papers on the properties and the
evolution of Internet scalability. Papers describing original research
results, surveys or prospective papers should be written in a tutorial
manner and be readable by non-specialists. Overly analytical papers are
not welcome. Instead, contributions must focus on giving insight into
the global Internet behavior without getting into unnecessary
mathematical formalism.
Topics of interest include:
**************************
* Analysis and evolution of the control plane, including routing,
naming (DNS), and addressing
* Trends and perspectives in multi-homing
* Evolution of business relationships between autonomous systems
* Interactions between topology, routing and traffic
* Global performance of control and data planes, as well as
performance measurement methodologies
* Impact of Internet-wide security risks (unwanted traffic, attacks
against the routing and naming) on Internet robustness
* Future of Internet services, QoS, fairness and network neutrality
* Emerging applications (e.g. bandwidth-intensive, requiring strict
QoS guarantees, etc) and their impact on global traffic
Manuscript submission Authors must submit their manuscript (single
column, double-spaced) electronically in PDF format by email to Steve
Uhlig (S.P.W.G.Uhlig(a)ewi.tudelft.nl) before the deadline. The manuscript
should be written in single column, double-spaced, in accordance to the
guidelines of the IEEE network magazine
(http://www.comsoc.org/pubs/net/). Please also include information about
the manuscript (title, complete list of authors, corresponding author's

| CALL FOR PAPERS
|
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------+
The International Conference on Management of Multimedia and Mobile
Networks and Services (MMNS) will hold its tenth annual meeting on
October 29 through November 2, 2007, in Silicon Valley, California, USA,
as part of the 3rd International Week on Management of Networks and
Services (Manweek 2007). The single-track MMNS conference will provide
participants with a high quality and intimate setting for discussion and
debate. The conference is sponsored by the International Federation for
Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 6.6 on Management of
Networks and Distributed Systems, with technical co-sponsorship by the
IEEE Communications Society, Technical Committee on Network Operations
and Management (CNOM).
SCOPE OF MMNS 2007
MMNS has established itself as a premier conference for research and
innovation in management of multimedia technology and networked
services. The scope of the conference has been expanded in recent years
to include management of emerging mobile and wireless networks. The
objective of the conference is to bring together researchers and
scientists from academia and industry interested in state-of-the-art
management of multimedia systems over mobile wireless networks, while
creating a public venue for results dissemination and intellectual
collaboration. Multimedia real-time services are expected to be among
the most important applications of next generation mobile wireless
networks such as the forthcoming 4G networks. Efficient management of
these services is a key ingredient in the effort to provide cost
effective, innovative services that are likely to become a major source
of income both for the network and content providers. The need to evolve
management tools and methodologies to keep pace with emerging networks
is at a critical juncture with the proliferation of mobility and
wireless systems, intelligent and broadband networks, data/voice
convergence, and the integration of computing and communications in all
devices. The academic and industry research communities should unify
forces to address the challenges of developing and operating such
services. Inevitably, management is a key element in addressing this
challenge. Autonomous services and the service-oriented architecture are
emerging concepts that can enable efficient management of resources in
these complex systems. The MMNS 2007 technical program committee is
soliciting research papers in the broad area of network and service
management and new models, architectures and designs in technology and
services to enable multimedia and mobility proliferation in next
generation mobile and wireless networks. MMNS 2007 will continue the
success of the outstanding agendas of the past, and will emphasize and
solicit novel research in management of mobile networks.
