Multimedia Computing and Networking 2008
http://mirage.cs.uoregon.edu/mmcn2008
In cooperation with: ACM SIG Multimedia
Part of the IS&T/SPIE International Symposium on Electronic Imaging
30 and 31 January 2008
San Jose Marriott and San Jose Convention Center
San Jose, CA, USA
=====================================================================
For 15 years, the multimedia computing and networking conference has
brought together researchers, practitioners and developers to contribute
new ideas in all facets of multimedia systems, networking, applications,
and other related areas of computing. Traditionally the conference
features presentations of full and short papers, a keynote talk, and a
panel of experts. Presenters are encouraged to make multimedia
presentations and demonstrate their proposed solutions. Authors of a few
accepted papers with the highest quality are invited to submit the
extended version of their papers to a special issue of ACM/Springer
Multimedia Systems Journal.
Original papers on all emerging technologies and traditional areas of
multimedia, including but not limited to:
Multimedia Computing
. multimedia OS services
. power-aware systems
. video-on-demand services
. mixed and augmented reality systems
Measurement and Modeling
. performance measurement of multimedia systems
. statistical modeling of server traffic and server software
. multimedia system simulations and benchmark comparisons
Multimedia Networking
. home, mobile and broadband networks
. QoS control and scheduling
. push technologies and content distribution
. peer-to-peer media systems
. Internet data streaming, delivery and wide-area caching
. multimedia security and rights management
Case Studies and Applications
. multimedia search engines
. entertainment and networked games
. distributed augmented and virtual reality
. multimedia authoring
Authors are invited to submit both research and industrial papers on
original, unpublished work that is not currently under submission at any
other conference. Papers whose contributions are supported by
experimental evaluations are strongly encouraged. Both full and short
papers are considered. Full paper submissions should not exceed 12
single-spaced, single column pages including figures, tables, and
references, using a typeface no smaller than 10 points. Short paper
submissions should not exceed 8 pages. All papers must be electronically
submitted to the conference website at http://www.electronicimaging.org.
Please also submit a 500-word text abstract with your paper submission
that includes your topic area. Further information about MMCN'08 can be
found at http://mirage.cs.uoregon.edu/mmcn2008.

CALL FOR PAPERS
BIONETICS 2007
2nd International Conference on
Bio inspired Models of Network, Information and Computing Systems
http://www.bionetics.org/
Budapest, Hungary, December 10-12, 2007
Technically co-sponsored by IEEE COMSOC, IEEE CIS, and IEEE SMC
In co-operation with ACM SIGCAS
Jointly sponsored by CREATE-NET, ICST
*** Submission deadline: August 5, 2007 ***
*****************************************************************
Technology is taking us to a world where myriads of heavily
networked devices interact with the physical world in multiple
ways, and at multiple scales, from the global Internet down to
micro and nano devices. Many of these devices are highly mobile
and autonomous, and must adapt to the surrounding environment in
a totally unsupervised way.
A fundamental research challenge is the design of robust
decentralized computing systems that are capable of operating
under changing environments and noisy input, and yet exhibit the
desired behavior and response time, under constraints such as
energy consumption, size, and processing power. These systems
should be able to adapt and learn how to react to unforeseen
scenarios as well as to display properties comparable to social entities.
The turn to nature has brought us many unforeseen great concepts.
Biological systems are able to handle many of these challenges with
an elegance and efficiency still far beyond current human artifacts.
Based on this observation, bio-inspired approaches have been proposed
in the past years as a strategy to handle the complexity of such systems.
The goal is to obtain methods on how to engineer technical systems,
which have similar high stability and efficiency often found in biological
entities.
The BIONETICS conference aims at bringing together researchers and
scientists from several disciplines in computer science and engineering
where bio-inspired methods are investigated. We are soliciting high-quality
original papers focusing on (but not limited to) the following topics:
a) Bio-inspired mathematical models, methods and tools:

- Multiscale dynamics of emergent properties
- Artificial immune and self-healing systems
- Cellular signaling pathways
b) Bio-inspired technical systems:

International Conference On Late Advances in Networks (ICLAN'2007)
http://www.iclanconf.org/2007/
December 05-07, 2007, Paris, France
Technical co-sponsorship : IEEE France
Scope:
The rapid deployment of network infrastructures in various environments
triggers new applications and services that in turn generate new
constraints.
For example, future heterogeneous networks will integrate ad hoc and sensor
solutions into wired and/or wireless fixed infrastructures. The
integration of
ad hoc and sensor networks together with the Internet and wireless
infrastructure networks increases the network capacity, the coverage
area and
application domains. The interconnection of these networks must not only
ensure
the transport traffic between a source and a destination. However, this
interconnection must keep on providing a very high quality of service
and make
various flows safe and secure. Carrying out these challenges requires the
modification and/or the adaptation of some protocols.
This conference is intended to serve as a forum for scientists and
engineers in
academia and industry to exchange and discuss their experiences and research
results about all aspects of networks. It will also initiate discussions
on how
to improve the presented solutions.
