WOSN will bring together researchers and practitioners to discuss the challenges and important questions posed by emerging online social applications. Of particular interest are problems related to network and system architecture design that can best support emerging and future social and collaborative systems, and how those social networks can shape the design of existing distributed systems and real networks. The goal of the workshop is to facilitate cross-disciplinary discussion of relevance to computer networking, involving novel ideas and applications, and experimental results. The workshop solicits original, previously unpublished ideas on completed work, position papers, and/or work-in-progress papers. We encourage papers that propose new research directions or could generate lively debate at the workshop. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following: - Implications of social networking on network and distributed systems design - System design for social networks - Network architecture design to support large scale social applications - Search strategies in social networks - Rating, review, reputation, and trust systems - Recommendation / collaborative filtering systems - Expertise / interest tracking - Identification of communities and their evolution in time - Anonymity and privacy - Measurement and analysis of online communities - Social media analysis: blogs and friendship networks - Mobile social networks - Information sharing and forwarding - Decentralized (ad hoc) network applications and services - Challenges posed by social networks Important Dates: Full paper submission: Friday March 7, 2008 Acceptance notification: Friday April 11, 2008 Camera-ready: Friday May 2, 2008 Workshop date: Monday Aug 18, 2008 Submission Instructions: Submissions must be no greater than 6 pages in length and must be a pdf file. Now that some of the fundamental issues and challenges of ad hoc networking have been clearly assessed, the focus is partially shifting to new issues, which include application scenarios (road safety, disaster recovery, sensors and actuators, etc.), autonomous organization and operation, optimization and control, service creation and support, middleware. Moreover, wireless MESH networking is emerging as an "ad hoc spin-off" aimed at extending and integrating the multi-hop paradigm with more traditional networking, which poses new and exciting technical challenges. Med-Hoc-Net 2008 is the major annual international workshop aiming to serve as a platform for researchers and visionaries from academia, research labs, and industry from all over the world. Sharing ideas, views, results, and experiences in the field of wireless multi-hop networking is what Med-Hoc-Net 2008 intends to be about. Anything from theoretical and experimental achievements, to innovative ad hoc systems, prototyping efforts, and case studies is of interest to the Med-Hoc-Net community. The papers solicited in Med-Hoc-Net 2008 cover a variety of topics related to ad hoc and MESH networks, including but not limited to: - Novel multi-hop wireless network architectures - Routing algorithms and protocols - MAC protocols, scheduling, power control and radio resource sharing - Transport layer protocols for multi-hop networks - Middleware for ad hoc networks - Application driven architectures and protocols - Sensor network applications and protocols - Vehicular networks - Integration of ad hoc networks with wireless access networks - Implementations, testbeds, and prototypes - Technology related issues (IEEE 802.11, Bluetooth, ZigBee, IEEE 802.16, IEEE 802.20, etc.) - Self organization and network reconfiguration - Optimization models and algorithms - Resource and service discovery - Call admission and traffic shaping policies for ad-hoc networks - Use of advanced antenna technologies (MIMO, beam forming, etc.) - QoS support - Security and privacy The members of program committee will referee all papers, and accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings by Springer Science-Business Media (SSBM) in LNCS or IFIP Series. Authors should submit a paper in English of up to 12 pages, carefully checked for correct grammar and spelling. MediaWiN 2008 is an open forum, which aims at promoting interaction and discussion between the Workshop contributors. The event offers the opportunity to leading researchers, industry professionals, and academics around the world to meet, present their work, and discuss the latest advances in multimedia systems, services, and applications over wireless networks. Topics of Interest Starting with a rigorous review process in which each submitted paper will receive at least three independent peer reviews, including one from a TPC member, we expect the Workshop to provide relevant and knowledgeable feedback that will assist all authors to significantly enhance the quality of their work. Manuscripts should not exceed 6 pages in IEEE proceedings style and must be submitted by February 15, 2008. Accepted papers up to 6 pages in the IEEE double-column proceedings format will be published with no additional charge. NAEC conferences bring together academic and industrial researchers from various fields to discuss developments and challenges of networking and electronic business. The aim of the conference is to provide a high quality forum for the presentation of results, exchange of ideas, and scientific discussions on challenges, methodologies, new technologies and their impact, computational and deployment issues, policies and advanced applications in the area of networking and e-business. Our goal is to open the conference to participants from all fields, in particular, business, telecommunications, computer science, management sciences and operations research, economics, legal and policy studies. The conference will combine technical presentations grouped in research sessions, with industry and research plenary speakers, as well as industry-lead panels. Papers submitted for presentation at the conference will be refereed and selected based on the full paper (15 to 35 pages) or an extended abstract (2 to 4 pages).
