International Workshop on Synergies in Communications and Localization
- SyCoLo 2009 -
www.SyCoLo2009.org
in conjunction with ICC 2009, Dresden, Germany June 18, 2009
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The main objective of this Workshop is to show how wireless
communications and navigation/localization techniques can benefit from
each other. With respect to these synergies the Workshop aims at the
following fundamental questions:
- How can navigation systems benefit from existing communication
systems?
- How can communication systems benefit from localization information of
mobile terminals?
This Workshop aims at inspiring the development of new position-aware
procedures to enhance the efficiency of communication networks. On the
other hand it also wants to encourage new positioning algorithms based
on (outdoor and/or indoor) wireless communication and/or on satellite
navigation systems. This workshop is jointly organized by the FP7 EU
research projects WHERE (<http://www.ict-where.eu>) and NEWCOM++
(<http://www.newcom-project.eu:8080/Plone>).
We invite you to submit your original full papers on the most recent
results and technology trends in the fields of:
- Hybrid positioning using both wireless communication and satellite
navigation systems;
- Resource management with localization information;
- Location-aware PHY/MAC algorithms/procedures;
- Indoor positioning combined with short range communications;
- Signal Processing techniques for (seamless) indoor/outdoor
localization.
Firm deadlines:
Paper Submission: November 1, 2008
Paper Acceptance;) February 1, 2009
Camera-Ready: March 1, 2009
Paper Submission:
Submitted papers must represent original material that is not currently
under review in any other conference or journal, and has not been
previously published. Paper length of the technical paper manuscript
should be up to five-pages.
Papers should be submitted in a .pdf format by selecting ICC 2009 at the
EDAS paper submission website EDAS and then selecting the workshop
submission link or just choose this link:
<http://edas.info/newPaper.php?c=6728&track=4826&>
All accepted papers will be included in the IEEE Xplore. Good luck!

Call for Papers
The 2nd IEEE International Workshop on Opportunistic Networking (WON-09)
to be held in conjunction with The IEEE 23th International Conference
on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA-09),
Bradford, UK, May 26-29, 2009
http://nrl.iis.sinica.edu.tw/WON09/
==================================================================
Aims and Scope
---------------
With the explosive deployment of mobile wireless devices recently,
Opportunistic Networking is becoming an increasingly popular area in
networking research, in which the assumption of having end-to-end
paths between the source and the destination is relaxed. Such networks
fall into the fields of mobile ad-hoc networking (MANET) and
delay-tolerant networking (DTN).Opportunistic Networks enable user
communication in an environment where disconnection and reconnection
are common and link performance is extremely dynamic. They are very
suitable to support the situation where network infrastructure has
limited coverage and users have "islands of connectivity". By taking
advantage of device mobility, information can be stored and forwarded
over a wireless link when connection 'opportunities' arise (e.g. an
appropriate network contact is met). In this view, traditional
Internet connectivity can be considered as a special case of
connection opportunity. With numerous emerging applications,
Opportunistic Networks allow a huge number of devices to communicate
end-to-end without requiring any pre-existing infrastructure and are
very suitable to support pervasive networking scenarios.
Topics of Interest
-----------------
Original papers addressing applications and architecture, systems
and protocols design, development and analysis, in all areas related
to Opportunistic Networking are solicited. Papers that bring out
interesting and novel ideas at an early stage are favored over
highly-polish journal-style results. Topics of interest include, but
are not limited to:
* Advanced technologies for enabling opportunistic communication
* Architectures for opportunistic networks
* Applications for opportunistic networks
* Biological and social models for opportunistic communication
* Middleware services in opportunistic networks
* Dissemination and replication techniques for opportunistic networks
* Network and resource management techniques for opportunistic networks
* Trust and cooperation in opportunistic networks
* Security issues in opportunistic networks

The Third IEEE International Workshop on Wireless Mesh and Ad Hoc Networks
(WiMAN'09)
June 26, 2009, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
in conjunction with ICDCS 2009
http://www.cse.nd.edu/~darts/wiman09.html
Submission Deadline: December 7, 2008
****************************************************************************************
Recently, wireless mesh networking is attracting significant interest from academia,
industry, and standard organizations. With several favorable characteristics, such
as dynamic self-organization, self-configuration, self-healing, easy maintenance,
high scalability and reliable services, wireless mesh networks have been advocated
as a cost-effective approach to support high-speed last mile connectivity and
ubiquitous broadband access in the context of home networking, enterprise networking,
or community networking. Despite recent advances, and the technical accumulations
from more than a decade's research effort in mobile ad hoc networks, many research
issues remain in all protocol layers of wireless mesh networks. For example, the
introducing of mixed (infrastructure and ad hoc) architecture, multi-radio,
multi-channel, and multi-antenna, have brought new challenges in the design of
physical, MAC, and routing protocols. New application scenarios, such as all-wireless
office, are urging researchers to address enhanced QoS support and various security
issues in the design of different protocol layers for wireless mesh networks.
This workshop aims to bring together the technologies and researchers who share
interest in the area of wireless mesh and ad hoc networks. The main purpose is to
promote discussions of research and relevant activities in the design of architectures,
protocols, algorithms, services, and applications for wireless networks. It also aims
at increasing the synergy between academic and industry professionals working in this
area. We plan to seek papers that address theoretical, experimental, and work in-progress
at the all layers of wireless mesh and ad hoc networks, from application layer to the
physical layer.
Topics covered by the workshop will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Multi-radio and multi-channel wireless mesh networking
Multi-hop wireless communications and ad hoc networking
MAC protocols (IEEE 802.11, 802.15, 802.16, 802.20, and beyond)
Routing, scheduling, and channel assignment protocols
Quality of Services provisioning
Multimedia communications over mesh and ad hoc networks
Network deployment, localization, and synchronization
Topology construction and maintenance
Modeling and performance evaluations
Cross layer optimizations
Power-aware and energy-efficient protocols and algorithms
Intelligent system techniques for mesh and ad hoc networks
Testbed, prototype, and practical systems
Novel applications of mesh and ad hoc networks
Vehicular mesh and ad hoc networks
Wireless sensor networks
Self-adaptive and self-organizing wireless networking systems

Rome, Italy
March 6th, 2009
to be held in conjunction with
SIMUTools 2009.
CALL FOR PAPERS
For the reliable performance evaluation of wireless networks, realistic
models
and credible simulation scenarios are crucial. Recently, in the area of
wireless
networks, it has been shown that simplistic models for mobility,
traffic, and
signal propagation yield results that are too optimistic. In order to
provide
more credible models, traces from specific scenarios need to be acquired and
then realistic scenario models need to be developed and validated. We
solicit
papers on mobility, traffic, propagation, and scenario modelling for various
wireless networks including MANETs, DTNs and vehicular networks. Papers
on trace
measurement architectures and trace characterizations of wireless
networks are
also welcome.
The main purpose of this workshop is to promote further research
interests and
activities on scenario modelling of wireless networks. It is also aimed at
increasing the synergy between academic and industrial researchers
working in
this area. We are interested in experimental, systems-related,
theoretical, and
work-in-progress papers in all aspects of wireless network scenarios.
The topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
* Classification of scenarios
* Challenges in trace acquisition
* Tools for mobility, traffic and propagation modelling
* Methods in localization and tracking to acquire accurate movement
traces
* Movement trace measurement architectures
* Characterization of movement traces
* Mobility modelling
* Validation of mobility models
* Traffic measurement, traffic characterization, traffic modelling
* Combined mobility and traffic modelling
* Characterization of signal propagation
* Propagation modelling
* Impact of mobility on radio characterization
* Impact of scenario modelling on performance
Authors are invited to submit full papers and work-in-progress papers for
presentation at the workshop. Papers (no more than 8 camera-ready pages
in ACM
conference proceedings format) should describe original, previously
unpublished
work, not currently under review by another conference, workshop, or
journal.

Mobile Data Mangement (MDM'09)
Taipei, Taiwan, May 18-21, 2009
http://mpclab.ce.ncu.edu.tw/mp2pis/
***** CALL FOR PAPERS *****
Theme of the Workshop
=====================
Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks undoubtedly receive wide attention because of
their
broad applications such as file sharing and media streaming services.
Substantial research efforts have contributed to the success of P2P
paradigms in
the wired network environments. As broadband wireless connections (e.g.,
WLAN,
WiMAX, 3G, 3.5G, and emerging 4G) become affordable and popular, mobile
users
now have increasing interests to participate in P2P services anywhere,
anytime
through their handheld devices.
The special characteristics of wireless mobile environment such as highly
variable connectivity, energy and resource sensitivity, and communication
asymmetry render new challenges, problems and issues for research in mobile
P2P
computing. The techniques developed for the wired P2P networks may not be
applied directly in such environments. New derivatives or modification to
present P2P data dissemination and management strategies are required.
As a
result, research works should propose promising solutions that enable
efficient
and reliable mobile P2P information services in the province of mobile P2P
computing.

networking,
information dissemination, databases, and security. The main goal of the
workshop is to gather scientists from these areas together to foster the
collaboration among such interdisciplinary areas and sparkle discussion on
open
topics related to mobile P2P.

CALL FOR PAPERS
The First International Workshop on Information Quality and Quality of Service for Pervasive Computing (IQ2S 2009)
Website: http://iq2s2009.i2r.a-star.edu.sg <http://iq2s2009.i2r.a-star.edu.sg/> <http://iq2s2009.i2r.a-star.edu.sg/ > >
In Conjunction with IEEE PerCom 2009 (http://www.percom.org <http://www.percom.org/> <http://www.percom.org/ > > )
Galveston, Texas, March 9-13, 2009
Quality of service (QoS) has been studied in various building blocks in pervasive computing, e.g., different QoS mechanisms are presented for wireless or wired networks, with QoS metrics being described in terms of delay, bandwidth, and/or data loss etc. The emerging pervasive computing is application-driven and mission-critical, therefore the information quality (IQ), such as the accuracy of target tracking or event detection, is also critical for the end users, service providers and the system designers. IQ and QoS provisioning for pervasive computing is challenging and difficult due to the resource-constrained, dynamic and distributed nature of the system, the weakness under security attacking, and the lack of a holistic design approach which takes into account the different types of resources and their inter-dependencies.
The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum to exchange ideas, present results, share experience, and enhance collaborations among researchers, professionals, and application developers in various aspects of IQ and QoS for pervasive computing. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
* System architecture for IQ and QoS provisioning
* IQ-oriented signal & information processing (e.g., source coding and data compression)
* QoS for target/event detection, localization, tracking and classification
* QoS for wireless ad hoc and sensor networks (including coverage and connectivity)
* QoS for task mapping and scheduling
* Cross-layer design for coordinated QoS (including IQ-QoS integration)
* Adaptative IQ and QoS under dynamic environments
* Trust, security and privacy issues in IQ and QoS
* Development environments and programming languages for IQ and QoS
* IQ and QoS for emerging pervasive computing applications, such as three-dimensional wireless sensor networks (like underwater sensor network), healthcare, and structural health monitoring
* Prototype test-bed design, implementation, and field trials
Submission Instructions
The submitted paper should be in the IEEE conference format (author guidelines can be found at ftp://pubftp.computer.org/Press/Outgoing/proceedings/INSTRUCT.HTM <ftp://pubftp.computer.org/Press/Outgoing/proceedings/INSTRUCT.HTM> ) and should be no more than 6 pages in length. The paper should not be previously published or currently under review elsewhere. Only electronic submissions in PDF format will be considered. Detailed electronic submission procedures will be announced later. All submissions will be peer-reviewed and selected based on their originality, merit, and relevance to the workshop. Accepted papers will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press in the combined PerCom 2009 workshops proceedings. At least one author of each accepted paper must register and attend the workshop to present the paper.

current interest, and be able to attract a number of high-quality
submissions. The proposal should be no longer than three pages and
should clearly identify the name of the workshop, theme of the workshop,
topic areas of interest to define the scope, names and affiliation of
main organizers/program chairs and potential program committee members,
a tentative call for papers with workshop deadlines and expected number
of submissions and participants. The proposal should also specify if
this will be a full-day or half-day workshop, and any logistical needs
(demos/audio/video projection etc). If this workshop has been held
before, also include its history (number of submissions, number of
accepted papers, number of attendees).
Please send proposals in PDF format by November 13th, 2008,
