The workshop will have the goal of understanding the research and deployment challenges in building the Next Generation Mobile Video Internet. Specifically, the workshop intends to address the following topics: a) Research challenges in developing new methods for delivering rich video experience to users over existing wireless technologies; b) New visions and concepts that will drive evolution of wireless access technologies to support high definition video content with diverse QoS requirements; c) Deployment challenges in new video delivery models (broadcast/multicast) to mobile users. The workshop aims to foster interaction among researchers and exchange new ideas by bringing together members of the video and networking communities. In particular, it will cover physical, data link, network and transport layers, as well as applications, security, simulation and power management issues in sensor, local area, personal, and mobile ad hoc networks. It is the goal of this workshop to review ad hoc protocols and models and to reflect the latest in the state of the art in ad hoc networks. It seeks to provide up to date information on research and development activities in the rapidly growing area of ad hoc networks. The workshop will also address the rapidly growing field of sensor networks, including the issues related to their topology, routing, performance, data gathering and filtering, energy efficiency, and mobility. Increasing number of people interact through media and less in a face-to-face manner. Elderly tend to get lonely when socializing becomes more difficult because of their age. Children spend an increasing amount of time behind their computer playing games on their own and adults also tend to live a less active life. Due to various reasons the number of people with social impairments (autism spectrum disorders) has noticeably grown during the last decades. Another related trend is that people lead less active lifestyles. At the same time, new technologies provide novel entertainment and interaction opportunities. Paper should explore the opportunities that technology-driven physical play offers for enhancing and stimulating face-to-face social interaction (as opposed to virtual interaction through a computer). This can be beneficial for diverse reasons: For children to counter the trend of playing computer games and watching television on their own, for elderly to socialize more when making new contacts becomes more difficult and for autistic children because they particularly like technological toys. The main goal of the special issue is to share information and experiences among researchers in the area of social interaction through physical play. We invite papers addressing social and physical issues including (but not restricted to) the following fields: - Social robotics - Design for diverse user groups, such as children and elderly - Social games - Creative toolkits - Exertion interfaces - Pervasive and head-up games - Embodied facilitation - Spatial and tangible interaction It is expected that the special issue will include some articles extended from papers that were presented at the 2008 Fun and Games workshop on Design for social interaction through physical play (http://www.idemployee.id.tue.nl/m.m.bekker/WorkshopSPG.htm), but other original articles are also welcome. Held in conjunction with the IEEE 6th International Conference on Ubiquitous Intelligence and Computing (UIC-09) Brisbane, Australia, 7 - 10 July, 2009 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- AIM & SCOPE Services are the dominant type of economic activity in industrialized economies. The term Internet of Services relates to the representation and (partial) execution of services - in the economic sense - in the Internet. Many issues around the mapping between economic services and services in the IT sense are still unresolved. Additionally, only a small fraction of services are entirely dematerialized; the vast majority of services ultimately relate to things in the real world: to the Internet of Things. The Ubiquitous Computing community has already made considerable advances in closing the information gap between services and things. One well-known example is the use of RFID tags in logistics. Yet this is only the beginning, there still exists a largely untapped source of innovation at the junction of services and things. This workshop is about bringing together industry and academia to explore how advances in ubiquitous computing techniques can help improve existing economic services and create opportunities for new services. We are also interested in how services can add value to smart things. This is a forum for industry to learn about recent advances in both services and Ubicomp and also for researchers to learn about the problems faced by industry that may spark new research questions and the next wave of Ubicomp applications. We solicit a) technical papers with a proven original scientific contribution and b) systematic, well-founded experience reports and requirements / demands analyses. Core IT papers and papers at the boundary of technology and business or humanities are also invited. We also welcome contributions that address solely the topic of services, independently of ubiquitous computing, since we believe this also contributes to cross-fertilization of ideas in the context of UIC-09.
