CALL FOR PAPERS
The 12th IFIP/IEEE International Conference on Management
of Multimedia and Mobile Networks and Services (MMNS) will
be held in October 26 - 30, 2009 at the fascinating
Telecom Italia Future Centre, in the worldwide known and
magnificent Venice, Italy, as part of the 5th International
Week on the Management of Networks and Services (Manweek 2009).
The MMNS 2009 conference will provide participants with a
high quality and intimate setting for discussion and debate.
The conference is sponsored by the International Federation
for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 6.6 on
Management of Networks and Distributed Systems, with
technical co-sponsorship by the IEEE Communications Society
and specifically the Technical Committee on Network
Operations and Management (CNOM).
SCOPE OF MMNS 2009
Since 1997, MMNS has established itself as a major conference
for research and innovation in the management of multimedia
technology and networked services. The scope of the conference
has been expanded in recent years to include management of
emerging mobile and wireless networks and their integration
with more traditional network infrastructures. The objective
of the conference is to bring together researchers and scientists
from academia and industry interested in state-of-the-art
management of converged multimedia networks and services across
heterogeneous networking infrastructures, while creating a public
venue for result dissemination and intellectual collaboration.
The convergence of existing and emerging technologies such as
broadband, mobile, and broadcast networks is considered as a
promising opportunity for existing providers to increase their
service subscriber base, so that the 4G vision and beyond becomes
a reality. An important research effort is undertaken by main
actors to face the multidimensional, in terms of transport
technology, session signaling, and QoS provisioning, heterogeneity
of Next Generation Networks (NGNs). The efficient management of
wireless and wired technologies side-by-side and of the number of
multimedia services provisioned over these integrated networks is
a key ingredient in the effort to provide cost effective,
innovative, and mass-market solutions that are likely to become a
major source of income for different stakeholders. The need to
evolve management tools, solutions, platforms and methodologies to
keep pace with emerging networks is at a critical juncture with
the proliferation of mobile and wireless systems, intelligent and
broadband networks, quadruple play convergence, and the
integration of embedded systems in different domains, from smart
homes/cities to next generation automotive systems.
The academic and industry research communities should unify forces
to address the challenges of developing and operating converged
multimedia networks and services. Inevitably, integrated management
is a key element in addressing this challenge.
The MMNS 2009 technical program committee is soliciting research

ACM MobiSys'09 Workshop on Hot Topics of Planet-scale Mobility
Measurements (HotPlanet), Krakow, Poland, June 22, 2009
http://www.hotplanetconf.net/
Important dates:
Submission deadline: May 15, 2009
Authors notification: June 2, 2009
Camera ready: June 12, 2009
Registration deadline: June 12, 2009
Workshop date: June 22, 2009
Call for papers:
It is well-known that successfully researching, designing and building
mobile systems and algorithms requires access to large-scale mobility
data. Unfortunately, the wireless and mobile research communities lack
such data. For instance, the largest publicly available human contact
traces contain only 100 very sparsely connected nodes, a limitation of
the experimental setup. We believe that large-scale datasets are
important, not only in communication network design, but also for
fundamental study in other academic disciplines, e.g., epidemiology,
urban planning, and social science. An analogy can be made to the field
of complex networks research, which flourished since 1989 when the first
large datasets from the Internet (and subsequently the World Wide Web)
became available. To achieve similar improvements in mobile networking
and other related fields, relevant large-scale datasets must be made
available.
In this workshop, we wish to challenge the community to collect
large-scale human mobility traces. We will highlight some of the issues
in the hope that the community can help find solutions that can form the
basis of practical experiments: the main aim is to raise these issues to
gain community support to meet this challenge. Topics of interest
include but are not restricted to:
* Motivating applications for large-scale human mobility data collection
* Methods for collecting large-scale human mobility datasets
* Existing applications of large-scale human mobility datasets, e.g.
human dynamics characterisation and modeling
* Reports of planet-scale infrastructure for data collection
* Proposed business models to incentivise involvement of network
operators in contributing data
* Issues concerning privacy and anonymity of data collection
* Regulatory and legal issues about data collection
The workshop proceedings will be archived in the ACM Digital Library.
Papers must be submitted in PDF format. All submissions must be in
English, no more than 6 pages long, two columns (using the ACM
templates), no characters smaller than 10 point fonts, and must fit
properly on US "Letter"-sized paper (8.5x11 inches). Margins must be of
1 inch on all edges (top, bottom, left, and right) of each page.
Papers will be reviewed single blind.
HotPlanet'09 will support a couple of student traveling grants.

The 2nd International Workshop on
Adaptation in Wireless Sensor Networks (AWSN-09)
http://tweb.ing.unipi.it/awsn09
In Conjunction with
The 7th IEEE/IFIP International Conference on
Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing (EUC 2009)
Vancouver, Canada, August 29-31, 2009
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are networked embedded systems that rely
on wireless communication. WSNs are supposed to run long-lived
applications. During operation, applications are likely to experience
unpredictable environment conditions that require to dynamically
change their behavior. With current reprogramming technology, such an
adaptation is still an open issue, as it can be achieved either at the
expense of significant energy consumption or through software
complexity. The challenge is to achieve WSN systems that not only embed
intelligence into environments, but also have embedded intelligence for
reprogramming themselves after their deployment.
The workshop aims at stimulating researchers and practitioners in
embedded and ubiquitous computing, autonomic computing, ad-hoc
networking and all other relevant areas to present their ideas and work
in progress for advancing the technologies that enable adaptive WSN
applications.
* Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Re-configurable, adaptive applications
* Context-awareness
* Self-healing, self-protection, self-configuration, self-optimization
* Agents and distributed computing
* Embedded Virtual machines
* Viral programming
* Opportunistic computing
* Intelligent power management and coverage
* Adaptive wireless communication and networks
* Security and fault-tolerance
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
PAPER SUBMISSION
The program committee encourage original, high-quality submissions from
researchers and practitioners from academia and industry. All papers
will be reviewed according to their originality, significance,
correctness, presentation and relevance.
Accepted papers will be published by the IEEE Computer Society. Selected
papers of the workshop will be considered for a special issue in
International Journal of Autonomous and Adaptive Communications Systems
(IJAACS, www.inderscience.com/ijaacs)

in Telecommunications
(SPIRIT 2009)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Workshop im Rahmen der 39. Jahrestagung der Gesellschaft für Informatik
28. September - 2. Oktober 2009, Lübeck
Web-Seite des Workshops: http://www.spirit2009.de/
Verlängerter Annahmeschluss für die Einreichung von Beiträgen: 11. Mai 2009
MOTIVATION
In gleicher

OVERVIEW
Interaction with mobile devices and embedded systems has become a part of everyday life. As mobile devices get more complex and embedded systems consist of different components that are networked the creation of usable interactive software poses many new challenges. Issues arise from emerging novel paradigms in user interfaces. In particular tangible interaction, device and interfaces ecologies, and implicit interaction create new requirements for user centered design and system development
The workshop on Mobile and Embedded Interactive Systems (MEIS'09) seeks to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry who are concerned with envisioning, creating, and implementing mobile and embedded interactive systems. The workshop will provide a venue to present novel research in this field and to openly discuss ideas and problems on the topic. By bringing together different viewpoints, in particular embedded systems, complex software systems, mobile interaction, and user centered design, a broader understanding can emerge. The overall aim of the workshop is to foster a community in mobile and embedded interactive systems.

Networking research for challenged environments has attracted
a lot of attention lately. Numerous attractive protocols have
been proposed, which are expected to network places and devices that
currently do not have the opportunity of going online. Such
environments reside at the edges of the current Internet infrastructure.
For example, public and private transport vehicles, underwater,
satellite and
deep-space networks are potential DTN deployments of interest.
Communication in the above-mentioned challenged environments is usually
infrastructureless and consists mainly of mobile battery-powered
devices. Moreover, mobility patterns are usually unknown, making
connectivity periods between DTN-nodes intermittent and opportunistic.
To achieve communication in such environments one has to deal with
several performance tradeoffs, such as end-to-end delivery delay and
energy consumption, or reliability and storage congestion.
Since, in most cases, end-to-end connectivity does not exist (hence the
difference from ad hoc networking) current Internet protocols
fail permanently.
Although there have already been a lot of research proposals for
routing, (storage) congestion control, error control and
application design for such networks, the IRTF has
focused mainly on the Bundle Protocol (BP); BP is an application
layer protocol that does not include the appropriate functionalities to
deal with issues such as routing or storage congestion, for example. That
said, DTN research and its future directions seem to lack a stable
basis. For example, it is not clear yet if a one-fits-all protocol
stack will be deployed, or if such an approach is feasible at all.
In contrast, several different protocols that each would suit the needs
of its specific architecture/setup would need to be able to interoperate.
This workshop seeks novel ideas in the form of preliminary or
work-in-progress
results as well as mature research papers for Delay-/Disruption
Tolerant Networks. We also encourage position papers that address and
criticize the past, current and future trends of DTN research and are
intended to trigger discussions on the whole spectrum of DTNs.
Topics include but are not limited to:
- DTN Routing
- Congestion and Storage Congestion Control
- Resource Sharing in DTN environments
- Network Coding techniques for DTNs
- Application Development
- DTN Management Platforms
- Error and Flow Control
- Experiences and Measurements from DTN testbeds
- Privacy and Security of Information in DTNs
- DTN Simulators and related tools
- Performance Evaluation and Metrics for DTN Research
- Performance and Design Tradeoffs for DTN Algorithms and Protocols
- Social Networking through DTNs
- Satellite Constellations and DTNs
- Naming/Addressing and interoperability issues with the Internet
architecture
- DTN Architectures:
-- Satellite Communications
-- Deep-space Communications
-- Underwater Communications
-- Connectivity in Developing Countries
-- Communication in Public and Private Transport Vehicles
